I'm still going strong :)

$499 isnt a legitimate price point for a game machine. Neither is $399. There isnt such a thing as a game THAT good.
Am I the only one who thinks 400/500 for these machines isn't bad? Not cheap, but not bad. I know people who spend that much on a pair of jeans.

Comeon, what would you rather have...jeans or a PS3

No single game is THAT good, but when it's 50 to 100 (or more) really great games in a consoles lifespan, it makes it well worth it.

weird... there are hidden trailers in addition to the ones today... here's where to get them:

* LittleBigPlanet interview: Games > Downloadable Games > Super Rub a Dub

* Ratchet and Clank interview: Featured Items > Ridge Racer 7 > Ufra Special Events > Page 3

* NBA 08 interview: Featured Items > Go! Puzzle Game Packs

* Uncharted: Drake's Fortune interview: View All > M-Q > Nancy Drew

Wait, so according to ZogLog all this great stuff was announced that makes the PS3 awesome now and THIS is the game you retort with that makes the system worth $500? I'll admit, I haven't looked at a single thing yet that Sony announced (just saw some PSP slim stuff - looks interesting but I don't play my current PSP any more so I don't see the need for a new one). I'm certainly open to a bunch of stunning announcements of PS3 games coming this Fall - but if your retort as to why the PS3 is worth $500 is Ninja Gaiden, well, then, no thanks . Hell, even if I got one (which I am considering) I wouldn't buy that game, just as I'm not buying Halo for the 360.

But I sympathize ZogLog - I made a similar post on the Nintendo thread. All those first party games coming out this year FOR SURE plus Mario Kart early 2008 should have shut up the "wii is a gimmick/only for soccer moms and grampas" crowd (which I noticed consists mostly of Sony fanboys) but it didn't...

Seriously ;).

I see this post saying anyone who doubted the PS3 has been put in their place, hands down. But how? I have to admit, I dismissed it (at least in the short term - but mostly because it didn't work in HD with my Sony HDTV ;)). But the OP of this thread doesn't have some sort of comprehensive "awesome" list (in contrast to Ikohn4ever's E3 Wii games list). What is it that is new that is so great? I loved the PS2 for it's games like Katamari, JRPGs, Jak-type platformers, and yes, free online play (didn't see the point of paying for it and only sort of do now that I have a 360). Is there anything mind-blowing that is new in those genres? I'm honestly curious.
As expected....
I wouldn't call the price drop and free blue-ray DVDS the end for microsoft and Wii. I expect the 360 to still outsell the PS3 by a 1.8:1 ratio instead of 2.0+:1. The Wii is going to sell like shit on a stick till someone decides to either copy them or release their new consoles. Trust me on that one.

Io you haven't heard of Killzone 2? Killer ap baby. ;) You want a reason to buy a PS3? KILLZONE 2! The one game... to rule them all! /lotr reference.
Seriously ;).

Thanks for the update - it's worse than I thought. There really isn't much new there, is there? What was so awesome about the PS3 presentation? Again, I am honestly curious - I WANT to be blown away! I like my 360 but I don't think it is the be-all end-all gaming experience (nor do I think the Wii is that), so I'm open to Sony coming on strong here.

For what it's worth, I am mildly interested in Lair, R&C, LBP, and possibly Folklore. And Home I guess. But none of these scream must-have at me, except for possibly R&C, and that I can wait on a price drop for (like Mass Effect and some of the other hyped-up 360 games). So it looks like I may pick up a PS3 after Christmas when it is possible for some of these games to start seeing price drops.

Monsta Mack - Killzone 2 may be a killer ap (though I suspect you are being tongue-in-cheek there ;)) but I'm not into shooters all that much (thus, to me, Halo 3 is not a killer-app either).

I really can not help you with why it was awesome. I ant to lay every game they showed. All i can do is post the info and movies, and let you see for yourself.
Eh, missed it. oh well. How was it? Anything good?
It sucked ass. Everything sucked. ;)

see, I can't tell you how. You're already throwing out all these little side swipe comments that I just don't give a crap about. I'll post some games and you'll say "lol, I hate those" and that'll be that. you have your right to voice your opinion, but sorry, I just won't get sucked into teh console warz.

there are lists around, go read them like everyone else, decide for yourself.

p.s. the ninja gaiden comment was a joke. even though in my opinion the worst version of ninja gaiden is better than any wii game, but hey, I'm not running around the wii forum going "hey guys, Ninja Gaiden just came out on the PS3, is there anything like that for the wii? There isn't? wow I hate this system it sucks lol"

E3 isn't over but here are a few things I still want to hear about:

-Home features on the PSP ???
-Downloadable content OTHER then games/add-ons (music/videos/movies etc)
-How more games are going to use the SixAxis' motion control
-Any kind of word of features coming via FW update for the PSP/PS3
-What PS2 games are still trickling out

Erm... Sure there are more things I'd like to know about.

You're going to have to tell us what kind of games you enjoy, because any list would be YMMV without that kind of info. For me and probably many others MGS4 was the absolute best thing of the show, especially with Kojima there to present the trailer himself.

You should really just spend the time to watch it and make notes of what was interesting, along with checking out stuff that wasn't shown, as there's still more stuff outside of what was at the show.

The nicest part about the presentation was that they were quick to not stay on one game or feature for too long, except for maybe the PSP designs, which deserves the attention for that kind of an announcement.

I really doubt we'll know this weekend... I think sony showed what they wanted to and the rest will probably have to wait.

But see, I don't care about the "warz" either. I just tend towards defending the Wii a bit when everyone says it is a waggle-enhanced gimmick (and many people posted after launch that they were sure they'd be able to get one on the bargain bin for $100 soon when everyone got tired of it). Other than that, I'm open to both the 360 (being new to it) and the PS3 (being that I loved the PS2 and it's library). I don't think I made any "side swipe" comments. I was simply asking how someone (previously, at this point I can't even remember who) said that NOW anyone who doubted the PS3 was put in their place. I wanted to know what Sony did today to accomplish that. That is all. It doesn't sound like maybe that really happened? I was hoping some helpful CAG's would point me towards what it was. I don't have time (having wasted all last evening getting MS points for free ;)) and thus needing to make up 2 days of work tonight to watch the whole thing.

But if someone can summarize what was shown today that wasn't known last week I'd appreciate it. I just assumed from that post that it was common knowledge here that Sony dominated the other two and wanted to know why.

Frisky - didn't see your post while I composed - thanks, that is more of what I was expecting to hear! And I think I did post exactly what I liked about the PS2 and would be looking for from the PS3 (in a previous post) - quirky Katamari-like games, JRPGs, Jak-type platformers - stuff like that. I don't have time to watch it this week, unfortunately (and I'm not watching the Nintendo one either). I guess I'll just check out the IGN summaries and such.

While Sony's E3 conference didn't floor me like it did many of you, it did finally rekindle my interest in the system. The 360 may be the machine to own right now, but next year it'll be hard to say. The first two-thirds of the show didn't do anything to interest me, but I took notice when they began showing off the exclusive titles, a large number of which looked great.

KillZone 2 shocked me. I was very skeptical of the game, and never would've thought it'd be nearly on par (and in some areas, surpassing) Gears of War. It probably won't be that far into next year when I finally buckle and make the purchase.
I'm still going strong :)

here's your straight answer-- first, if you want lists and proof, go check any of the 100s of lists floating around the internet right now.

as for the presentation, it was all games the whole time and it still didn't cover everything coming out for the PS3. What were the two big criticisms of the system before? No games, too expensive. Well, now it's cheaper and there are a bunch of great games on the way. It's officially a competitor...sure, not a mind-blowing revelation, but ideally, it would at least clear out a few of the trolls in this forum. There just seemed to be a lot less fluff in their presentation this year. it was actually tied together by Home...it wasn't just masturbatory montage after masturbatory montage. it was pretty much one trailer after another, with some breaks to discuss Home features, the PSP slim, chewbacca, etc.
Was there any indication that PS3 iterations of Twisted Metal or Wipeout are currently in the works?
yeah, Wipeout HD. It was going so fast the video streams couldn't keep up :)

They certainly did well, but there are some things to keep in mind:

a) Both MS and Nintendo focused mainly on what was coming this year, and even then for some reason didnt touch the ACTUAL list of games they had that were coming out this year (in the case of Nintendo). Sony seemed much more open to actually talking about what they had in the works, and didnt limit it to a release date.

b) Both MS and Nintendo wasted 1/3 of their show talking about numbers, something that Sony did not do (for some mysterious reason!).

It was more a case of their competitors doing horrible rather than them doing exceptional. They just did what they were supposed to do.

No games really isnt the proper criticism. The criticism is subtracting the 360 library and then justifying the price difference.

I dont think $500 quite magicks away the complaint about price either.

Sounds like a plan. The live blogs are good for the quick summary, but the video will help best, along with previews. The conference isn't that long, maybe 90 minutes total, so with the pace they keep throughout the show, it's not as bad as Nintendo's or Microsoft's conferences.

I asked about your taste because some of your semi-interests didn't seem to lineup with what I recalled that you were interested in before, though nothing's wrong with branching out a little. ;) :D

Thank you for that. OK, I'll watch it eventually (just not till this weekend probably - no big deal, 'tis not like I was gonna buy one this week anyway ;)). I definitely want to see the Home features in motion. But one thing... Chewbacca??

You mean stuff like Lair, Home, and Folklore? Yeah, see, that's the thing - I'm TRYING to like the PS3 so I'm reaching for games (and features) I might like that don't fall into my typical interests. Maybe throw Drake's Fortune and HSG5 in that category too. You nailed it - sort of makes it out like the opposite of what Apossum thought at first ;).

But I guess what didn't happen was any FF XIII info, or any other big new project from Squeenix, or a major RPG from the likes of Namco or Konami. I guess that would be one "blow me away" thing I was looking for and it doesn't sound like there was anything like that.

Chewie came out to show off the Vader PSP.

I do think that Sony's more or less positioning the PSN as the center of those quirky, strange games you want to see, like echochrome and Everyday Shooter, and hopefully once the bigger studios finish up their big projects, they'll make some interesting stuff, too.

Littlebigplanet definitely seems like something you'd like, especially with the free demo in the fall that's essentially the whole shebang right there. Infamous could be something to check out, which is a superhero sandbox game from the developers of Sly Cooper.

Yeah, just saw that in the PSP forum. Hell - even though I don't play the PSP much I want to get that bundle! They may have me sold on that, in any case...
Not to mention that everything shone at the M$ conference (aside from RE5) is coming this THIS year, while I'm sure everything Sony showed (aside from maybe one of them) are all coming next year or even later.

Also DR. Mario Kart, you forgot Mass Effect for the 360.
Are you stupid, retarded, or both? UT3, Haze, Warhawk, GT Prologue, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Lair(but they didn't show it), Folklore, GTA4, Singstar, COD4, Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch, Socom, Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, are all coming out on the PS3 this year. Now what was the 1 game you're talking about again?

BTW Frisky, Sony did show Guitar Hero 3 and so did Nintendo, Microsoft didn't probably because they showed Rock Band.

I'd like to know WHY MS didn't show Haze nor UT3, yet they showed a trailer of RE5.

I give Sony a B+, Nintendo a C+, and Microsoft a C-.

Rock Band is in the PSN store as part of a video montage. (and RE5)
Looks interesting.

They didn't show Haze or UT3 because both are timed exclusives for PS3.

Request to ban DMK from the PS3 forums plz
(and no, it's not because of things I don't want to hear...it's because you're a broken record and you're looking for any angle to minimize the fact that the PS3 is now a competitor...and making this opinion so public it hurts.)

I got a question for you guys, Did they announce UT3 as an exclusive for the console? PC aside?

that seems really strange since my last OXM had UT3 as the cover story lol...

He said exclusive this YEAR.

Emphasis on year ;)

I was always going to get it on the PS3 anyway (so it didn't interfere with my Halo time) so no biggie for me.
