EA finalizes 19.9% stake in Ubisoft

Jesus Christ! This is just getting absured. I actually really like Ubi's games so this is a hard hit to my stand against them.

Any other sources to back this up? Last I heard Ubisoft was getting alot of support in order to prevent this from happening.

This is why you don't get business news for video game websties people, the don't know what the hell they're talking about. The 19% stock they bought earlier was finalized today, that's it.

I think they're wrong, the only thing that other websites are posting about this is that the 19.9% stock purchase has been approved. I think they've misinterpreted whatever news they got.
Phew....i was scared there for a second. I'm still angry at EA for trying to buy out all of its competition (slowly) but at least they haven't out right gone and bought Ubi.
people knew this was coming when they bought 19% of their stock
Yeah no kidding, because that deal had to be finalized. That's what this news is saying!!

Please OP, edit the title becuase obviously people are reading the title and can't wait for their EA's evil post to get in and skip right over everything that has been said.

If this is true, EA really is rapidly becoming the Microsoft of video game publishing. I'm actually curious if all the M$ haters out there will suddenly decide it's fashionable to hate EA for their aggressive business practices too. After all, only Japanese companies know how to make games anyway, right?

I heard France was helping them so that they wouldn't lose the only game company they had,

That sounded like a joke but its true AFAIK

You guys are just messing with me now aren't you? Please people, this news is not new, its simply making what happened earlier, official.

Infogrames, who owns the US-based Atari, is also in France, so they're not the only company there.
that's whack, so no more splinter cell from ubi :(
Don't be silly, there are still going to be Splinter Cell games...Except now they are going to be better because the games will feature an awesome espionage-packed soundtrack featuring hardcore punk-rock bands like Blink 182 and Good Charlotte! Everybody wins!

Yes and don't forget that since it's EA you will be swaped with endless add on packs and sequels, you'll get so much SC you'll learn to hate it.

Oh man...I was worried. Glad someone picked up on the clarification. Shame the OP hasn't.

It's good to see that Take-Two is copublishing Elder Scrolls IV with Bethesda. That is one game that would bring me to the dark side if EA picked it up.

whew.

myke.

shaq-fu damn EA. I love Tom Clancy's Games!!. they are realistic, fun, exciting, tactical. sheer perfection. Ubi-Soft is awesome now EA consumed their greatness. Only to screw it up down the road.

Please read the other posts before you post, this is false news. It was just the previous 19.9% stock purchase being approved. Nothing is happening between the two right now.
do people just post without reading anything that was written
I think so, it's probably happens more than you think.
do people just post without reading anything that was written
It was actually a very poorly woorded press release from EA. It should be cleared up that in fact the deal was only finalized in a few moments on GN.
http://www.got-next.com/news_read.php?id=434

I don't know about the rest of you but this news just makes me sick considering EA now swallowed up a company I halfway gave a shit about. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy Ubi's games used now too.
:whistle2:(
Please accept my deepest apologies for taking the announcement out of context -- the article was intended to state that EA simply sealed the deal in its 19% of shares. Hope this didn't cause TOO much confusion!!!

Like Rich said -- it was a very poorly worded press release from EA.

Here is the original context of the press release:

Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) announced today that it has completed its previously announced purchase of 3,497,049 shares of Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. from Talpa Beheer B.V. for a purchase price of 19.69 Euros per share.

Eventually there will be one company making games for masses. We'll have sequel after sequel with guest stars from every game. Matter of fact people wont buy games unless all their favorite characters are in it. Oh, and they will always buy games new for the full price and a crappy 2.00 dvd that makes the game 10.00 more expensive. Each game will only take 8 hours to beat, if you're lucky. The people will rejoice.

Of course there will be a underground movement. Where games are bootlegged, the future name for pre played, and they will risk lives to play games that take 80 hours to beat. And then pass it to someone else for another after they are done. Villians, bootlegegers, theives, no I call them heros, I call them CAGers.

Well hopefully Ubisoft can buy their stake back or else they can look foward to being completely taken over in the future.

But, heh, don't hate EA! They are just making "good business decisions".

You know I used to think you were intlelligent but now I just see you as completely immature idiot. Are you ever going to let the EA thing go?

First of all F uck you.

Second of all I don't care what you think of my views. They are mine and I will share them as I please. For someone who talks about intelligence you sure do a poor job of exhibiting some yourself by attacking me instead simply disagreeing or arguing my views.

Frankly you should look in the mirror when talking about immaturity as well since you seem all too happy to flame someone who has a different opinion than yours.

The best part is that I am not the only one against EA here so don't forget to flame everyone before me who posted something against EA.

I wonder why?

Don't flame someone and expect not to be flamed back.

Hasn't Rainbow Six been busted upside the head with endless sequels and expansions, all Ubisoft published mind you? But I agree in that EA would make life horrible for Tom Clancy fans. Every head shot you get a Tom Clancy Spy Point! which you can use buy the new Nelly video as seen in the EA Big commercials!!!!!!!!

I swear, morons like you are why I hate the internet.

You insult me and then try to use the fact that I insult you back against me. You're a genius!
