So I decided to play a game in Madden 10 today, and yet another ad greeted me. This one has reached a new level of invasion into the actual game. An ad for a Dane Cook show pops up EVERY PLAY and doesn't go away until the play starts. I understand that EA is a business. But Dane Cook? The worst comedian on the face of the Earth? Every single play? Really? Why do I buy this game every year and support this stuff?

that sucks i knew ads in games would be an issue but to be bombarded with them every play is beyond invasive. i could see if you gt the game for free or something then whatever but you paid for it so aside from the ones on the sides of the field there shouldnt be any others.

Have they totally brainwashed NFL fans to shell out $60 each year for what should be a $10 DLC update?

I'd be pi##ed if I bought a game that was worthless in a year. Its almost like buying a car soon as you break the wrapper its lost half it value.

and in game advertisements are just beginning wait till we get commercials pop up on the screen during load times.
Thats why I don't buy Madden. If millions of sheep would stop buying the game every year then this problem would stop.
I've never bought one
The only one I have was given free when I bought my original Xbox, same with NASCAR, regardless what year it's still cars going in a circle :whee:
The only thing I see wrong in the OP's pic is Seattle being in the Super Bowl.
:applause::lol:

Yeah, EA really seems to want their Most Hated title back...

Pretty sad charging $60 and throwing in ads left and right.. but people continue to buy the same recycled game every year so why would they stop.

You've never looked at a Kia, Hyundai, or Suzuki car have you?

They lose a ton of value after you sign the paperwork.

Haven't seen the Dane Cook ad, but I remember a week or two back, I was bombarded with ads for the 5 gum. I don't care if they have ads on the scoreboard or something like that, but right above the play clock blocking part of the field of play is damn annoying, I agree.

If you really do think Cook is the worst comedian ever, than your stupid. Its Carlos Mecia of coarse!...or Joe Rogan...

So if EA has indeed gone "too far", then that must mean the OP is not buying the game next year. But we all know he will.

amen!
How are the ad placements any different than watching it on tv?
Ads don't block the field of play during a game.

Let's not pretend only the Madden franchise exploits its followers; the Wii is a Gamecube with a new controller, ODST is Halo 3 map downloads, and so on.

It's annoying for sure. In one of Burnout Paradise's 1.6 or 1.7 updates, I had to be repeatedly exposed to Subway's $5 foot-long promotion on nearly every block. I'm glad they changed it in the last update, and promoted their in-game vehicles instead.

It wont happen on PS3 though, cuz PSN isnt a retarded rip-off like 360. LOL, you pay for online but still see a bunch of ads!
WTF are you complaining about? Don't you own a 360? You should be used to it.

Very Funny...
Although I would actually like ticker if you could customize it.

It's called capitalism.

People want to buy space in Madden to advertise as they know people millions of people will see it as they can't turn it off.

EA says yes because they are in the business to make money, what are they supposed to say, no?

Don't like it, don't buy the game. That simple.

I don't care, I realize games are becoming expensive to make and therefore companies must offset it somehow.

And here I was thinking of picking up Madden when the price dropped. Guess I won't be spending any money after all.

Ads are the reason why I've (mostly) stopped watching TV and listening to the radio. I simply cannot stand them.

HEY MANG!! WE BEANERS KNOW HOW WE DO DIS!! "insert self deprecating humor aimed at Mexicans"

Also, ads are a way of life now, in almost every medium. Video games are just a new outlet for them.

That's why the last NFL game I bought was NFL 2K5 and I try not to buy EA games whenever possible. I'll never forgive them for not supporting the Dreamcast

That's snickerlicious. I don't mind ads, but it bothers me when they're obnoxious. Especially, in a game like Madden where you're paying $60 for a roster update, gameplay tweaks/mis-tweaks, and minor graphical upgrade. If they switched to a more affordable subscription model I'd be much more accepting of their blatant advertising.

P.S. - I too hate Dane Cook. This guy in college made watch a whole Dane Cook comedy special; I'll never forgive him.

Can't comment on hockey, but in both football and basketball, 2K delivers a far superior product in my opinion.

At least they did with football until EA bought NFL exclusivity. :wall:

How much is your monthly cable/satellite bill?

A lot of you bitch WAAAAY too much. As for the EA "monopoly" the NFL was selling exclusive rights and EA offered more money.

Also, EA provides server support along with the DNA system and other updates. You people think it is free for them to do this stuff? Yeah, they probably milk it WAY more than they should but a bunch of you bitch about something you dont even understand.

I've seen some pop up. TNT is bad about it during NBA coverage of having ads for their shows pop up on the bottom of the screen in between plays etc.

Usually not during action. Ads have never bothered me much. I'm a big sports fan (don't play sports video games though) so I'm used to commercial breaks, ads during time outs, announcers reading ad statements etc.

I used to buy Madden every other year but haven't bought one since 07. Just got fed up with EA's shit. I was actually thinking about buying it if I could find a good deal, perhaps a b2g1. Couple these adverts with the ridiculous ripping off on DLC and I'm glad I didn't. Man I miss NFL 2k .

Everyone is right about the exclusive NFL rights EA has. They have no incentive to get of their hands and improve the game. I'll still take NFL 2K5 over anything EA has churned out.

You want to solve this problem?

STOP BUYING SPORTS GAMES!

I mean it. I'm sick of half a Gamestop's used section being previous year copies of Madden. Stop buying these disgusting things and they will stop making them. Or do you want the used section of every store piled high with sports titles? I despise the things, they're little more than wasted plastic.

I found a shop with $4 N64 titles yesterday, and I think out of maybe 50 games, only 5 of them were not sports games of some kind.

You know why that's worthless? because it will just be replaced with a crap load of used copies of Skate for instance. They have a lot of funds since (apparently) since they can keep creating series that can be released every year and people go gah gah for this crap apparently... Like I said earlier in this thread. Don't buy ANY EA crap and they will stop. The NHL series is excluded from this rule. xD

Even if every single person who reads CAG were to stop buying EA sports games, EA would barely even notice. I don't know why people post stuff about that here as though it would make a difference. Their games sell huge amounts of copies, largely to casual gamers who enjoy playing Madden every single year even if it's only a minor update. Get used to it cuz it's not changing anytime soon.

And the reason that used game stores have so many sports games is that the older games are basically worthless once a new version is out. Why play Madden 05 when you have Madden 10? However, it's not true with other genres, Mario 64 is still fun to play even if you have Super Mario Galaxy so you're more likely to keep it but why bother holding onto an old sports game.

I had never played Madden before, so a couple years ago I bought Madden 05 from GS for like $1.

I still haven't figured out how to play it yet. *keeps playing Tecmo Super Bowl*

Im not gonna say its either stupid or smart to buy sports games because I enjoy a game of madden/NHL/NBA/MLB and whatnot, but I think everyone is getting a little off the topic because we all know there are going to be ads, but I think the point was that this was an inappropriate use of the ads. It was charming to see Old Spice Redzone report, or a banner on the sidelines, but to push a comedy show before every play is going beyond "realistic sports marketing" to just ad abuse. For example, I dont mind seeing a sporting event being "sponsored" by Burger King or whatever, but if they make me use BK sports equipment or forced to play agains the Wendys Mcnuggets, your taking away from the actual game. Poor greedy EA. Took a charming idea and abused it. Also a reason why I rarely buy any sports game on release day.
