EA Has Officially Gone Too Far
If you really do think Cook is the worst comedian ever, than your stupid. Its Carlos Mecia of coarse!...or Joe Rogan...
at least joe rogan had a good run on newsradio. man i loved that show. but dane cook and carlos mencia both ruin comedy.
This year, expect it.

Patriots, on the other hand...
Seattle's not going to be able to play St. Louis each week ;) 8-8 at best this year.

My only problem with this is the degree that EA's taken it to. Ads in sports games are fine to an extent, and can add realism - a hockey game would just look odd without anything on the boards, for instance.

That said, this year seems excessive. Flooding the game with candy bar ads and their corresponding stupid puns is unnecessary, and these pop-up ads in game would just aggravate me.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you're going to sell ads in the game, would it kill you to try and limit the amount, or to make them a little more discreet?

I'm not thrilled about their DLC scheme or the way online play works (and is charged for), but those are other topics entirely.
You want to solve this problem?

STOP BUYING SPORTS GAMES!

I mean it. I'm sick of half a Gamestop's used section being previous year copies of Madden. Stop buying these disgusting things and they will stop making them. Or do you want the used section of every store piled high with sports titles? I despise the things, they're little more than wasted plastic.

I found a shop with $4 N64 titles yesterday, and I think out of maybe 50 games, only 5 of them were not sports games of some kind.
Suck it up. Millions of people buy sports games, and will continue to for as long as video games exist. They flood the used markets because, really, who needs a copy of Madden 2007 when it's three years out of date? This, too, will continue forever.

Sports are popular. Video games based off sports are popular. No boycott you could ever hope to organize would make even a slightly noticeable dent in their sales figures. Get over it.
Don't buy ANY EA crap and they will stop. The NHL series is excluded from this rule. xD
Not buying "any EA crap"? If that includes all of the games they publish, I guarantee that they'd start by making cuts to other genres before they even thought about touching their golden goose. Sports games would be the last to be axed or see changes.

That "any EA crap" would also include Rock Band, and I'm not giving that up.
It's annoying for sure. In one of Burnout Paradise's 1.6 or 1.7 updates, I had to be repeatedly exposed to Subway's $5 foot-long promotion on nearly every block. I'm glad they changed it in the last update, and promoted their in-game vehicles instead.
I played for a while last night. Now, there's a bunch of McDonalds dollar menu ads all over the place...which, thanks to their red and yellow coloring, make it hard to find the auto repair drive-throughs or the smashable billboards.
This year, expect it.

Patriots, on the other hand...
49ers are winning the West this year I'm afraid.
That's why the last NFL game I bought was NFL 2K5 and I try not to buy EA games whenever possible. I'll never forgive them for not supporting the Dreamcast
Your comment + the Grandia II avatar is priceless.

Dreamcast forever!

I refuse to fork up another 60 dollars for Madden 2010, when I already have 09. I'm already tired of seeing these damn Snickers ads.
The only game that I MIGHT purchase from EA anytime soon would most likely be NFS:Shift.

I went online with Madden 10, and they were charging for almost every online feature, in the online menu... they had a VIP online club.. EA Elite... Charging for some Franchise mode online... I could care less about the ads... but trying to charge for these little services that should be in the game... is crazy.
Thats why I don't buy Madden. If millions of sheep would stop buying the game every year then this problem would stop.
Well.. I tried to boycott it.... but fuck I wanted a football game to play. Actually, with Madden if you turn the CPU skill up to 100% on each category, and play the game on Pro... you get some decent games, without the glitches.
Y Don't buy ANY EA crap and they will stop. The NHL series is excluded from this rule. xD
What about (just looking at titles on my shelf) Army of Two, Battle field series, Burnout series, Mirror's edge, Mercinaries, The Orange Box....c'mon whatever you think of these titles or EA as a whole, they still got their stamp on some above average games. I'll boycott sports titles as always but I can't boycott the whole EA company and miss out on some good-awesome games.

Oh no, it's Bob Saget by far... every other word out of his mouth is "that's fucked up"

From what I remember the deal with ads in games started with Shenmue. If it didn't start there then that is the game that was the most talked about with them. Hell they talked about it on video game shows, in mags and online. People didn't like it but it worked. They didn't over do it and they were placed like you would see them in real life. I don't know about Maden but if the ads are in it like they are when you watch a game of football then what is the issue. I could see people getting pissed if it was FFXIII and you saw ads for Burger King or Snickers. However buying online modes is something that they need to change. One should never have to buy stuff that should have been in the game from the start or an update.

I like in game ad's and product placements when they are done in the context of the world (Burnout, Bionic Commando, etc). It enhances the realism of the property.

Bionic Commando had too many Pepsi logos for my taste- but I really REALLY thought it was cool that Capcom ran ads for their fake companies (like tri-cell) up next to the pepsi billboards.

I also liked the product placement in MGS4- it was all there- clearly promoting apple, but they didn't cram it down your throat.

IMHO- the only game I've played that should have been ashamed of their ads was Dewy's Adventure for the Wii. After each world there was a full page ad for "Aqua Pod" bottled water. I mean, I guess it was at least related to the game- being water and all. Still annoying.

Joe Rogan? Really? One of the funniest comics in the biz today Joe Rogan? The Joe Rogan that can be so crude as to make you embarassed that you're laughing yet so insightful you change the way you think about the world? THAT Joe Rogan?

... REALLY?!?!

EDIT: Two spelling errors in your post. A blatant "my opinions don't count". Nevermind. I feel better.

EDIT: Wait, spotted another... three spelling errors and counting...

I hate two things about Tiger Woods 10

1) I have to see adds for cars and MCDs
2) It's a biggie....there are about 7 DLC courses, each at 600 points
Now, I think 1200 points = 15 dollars I believe.

So....60ish dollars if my math is right for 7 DLC. Of course, if you buy a 4000 point card for the retail of 50 dollars without being cheap and going on ebay or slickdeals or whatever....you can buy 6 DLCs with probably what? 200 points leftover?

Basically, if you bought everything at retail, you bought the game...AND ANOTHER GAME! TWO GAMES!!!!

And what makes it worse is some of the courses were on there last year!

Think about that, and wonder why I hate buying EA products

Its the NFL and EA. What do you expect? When you watch a NFL football game you will be plundered with ADs, and EA likes its in game advertising so they probably want to make it feel like your watching an actual game. Complete with ADs in the corner. And no I am not a fan of in game advertising or Madden.

why is everyone blaming it on ea? everyone here all agreed on the idea of this thing? when it shows up everyone doesn't like it when they supported the idea in the first place.

Football i kinda find this game boring though as what ive said earlier im not a sport fan player,
This year's Madden is actually good.
no its not... its not good.. by a long shot. You can get a good game, if you put the game on pro and turn up al the CPU skills to 100 percent.
Can't comment on hockey, but in both football and basketball, 2K delivers a far superior product in my opinion.

At least they did with football until EA bought NFL exclusivity. :wall:
I wanted to like NHL 2k10 really bad, but the game just sucks. I sent it back to Gamefly after a day. The last one I played was 2k7 on the original Xbox, and it's not even as good as that.

That being said, I didn't like NHL 07 or 08 either, and didn't bother with 09.

Wow u seriously failed. There's a reason NHL 09 won awards and got praised so much. I shouldn't have gotten rid of NHL 09...

Yeah, people buying Madden means EA has more of a warchest and will be more likely to take a risk on more innovative IPs.

However I fear the ads are a sign of things to come for other games as well...

Actually, the first Mercenaries was made by Pandemic Studios and published by Lucasarts. It was only after Mercs 2 was well under way in development that I believe EA bought Pandemic. fuckin' shame, if you ask me, but the game was still pretty good.

Says the person who can't spell you're, Mencia or course.

As for all of the ads, it's EA. You expect anything less from EA? They're the fuckin' Gamestop of the gaming industry. They buy up the competition and absorb them into their corporation and people STILL buy their fuckin' shit, even though their business tactics are reprehensible.

Oh come on, Activision has long surpassed EA as the king shiatheads of the video game biz. Just look at how they have run Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero into the ground.
