EA Origin Spyware

Steam offline mode is really iffy, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The problems occur when you start your computer offline, and try to use offline mode without going online first.

And personally, I really don't have that much of a problem with Origin. When Steam started, everyone hated it too, but people got used to it as it evolved and got better. I'm guessing in a few years, Origin will improve. Also, Steam right now has pretty much of a monopoly of PC digital distribution, a little competition here and there is good for the industry.
So let me get this straight. First a poster mocks those who berate Steam and related services but then immediately forgets the TOS all their problems because of a sale. Now you're mocking me because I had a terrible experience with a terrible service and chose to NOT be a hypocrite?

And people wonder why I'm so quick to bash all these new generation 'gamers'. They just don't understand.

If it were only that easy. It's not the price or the games, it's the malware. Steam did awful things while I struggled with it to finish HL2. I loved the first one. The second one, well until Steam goes away I don't think the disc will ever be used again. What kind of service FORCES you to update to play offline (fixing nothing while inserting glitches) and worse yet says you can't play offline because the ISP connection went out? There are no options to control it.
I can read quite well. However I'm not willing to let untrusted programs do things in the background so I had to remove it.
The text that's bolded ... this applies to almost every game made. Just saying.

I pretty much agree, almost no game that comes out is actually released as a final product, then they do the "release day" patch, that fixes somethings... then a month or so later, another patch and completely break it. lol

Shit, exactly what happened with COD blops and BC2.

I have more issues with Origin when starting up in offline mode while not having any internet from a cold boot. Steam works fine for offline, even after multiple reboots and/or no access to the net.

Honestly, Origin and Steam should come together and make a baby... "Stegin" or "Orieam" but the first one sounds like a flightless bird and the second sounds like some stupid female hygiene product based on omega-3 fatty acid... Actually the phonetics sounds very similar to Orieme which is a real company based in Italy who make industrial and home based cooling systems.
Just wondering how many people that are upset by this are Facebook users. Cause if you think this is bad...then well...lol.
Thats why i gave up on pc gaming. If you play on a pc you render information. For that i rather play on a console. At least there everything is DRM anyway.
Just don't give any CC or something similar.

And, i don't use Friendface. :)

You can play PC games - Freeware/F2P/Retail games without giving out any info - IF YOU WANT TO.

Not quite.
Starcraft does monitor your account (incl. everything). If i don't want it i need to decline the agreement and thus can not play the game at all.

Earlier games did not have that. To be fair, earlier games weren't programmed for the internet or not in that way (control).

I did not like steam really but of course i have an account there which was part of HL2 anyway. No running away if you did not like Steam.

Once you agree to an agreement you signed your liberty away (in some sense).

If you fine with that, thats ok. I don't condemn it, but for myself i rather not.

Don't agree to sign your liberties away.

Don't support products that use that method.

PC Developers number in the millions. Daily there are 100s of products released on the retail end, 100s on the freeware end, 100s on the F2P - this is not even including flash or browser based....Find and support the makers that are releasing the products the way you want them to be released.

I don't buy. I just donate to the devs that make the games I like the way I like to play them. That's me...there are alternate routes to take. IF YOU WANT TO.

you guys do realize the second you get on the web and start chatting... someone is ALWAYS monitoring you... Your on the grid man... can't stop the change unless you move to the amazon's and dump every shred of modern civilization... Even then, there's satellites orbiting above and even aliens or god monitoring your every movement... in youz brainz

I know what you mean and i don't disagree. I have a lot of older games where that is true.
Its just some newer games like Starcraft. Thats why i never got that one.

Yep. Yep. That is why the only retail I mess are the one I get for free. Everything else get's da boot.

Its true of course. But there are some steps you can do to minimize it. Of course you can not eliminate it completely but to a certain extent.

I don't KNOW if that stuff is true or not but I do know this I want to have as much control on my personal info as possible.

What are some games you've got for free with no strings attached? That seems like a pain in the ass. For instance I saw this game called The Settlers Online (Castle Empire Online or something like that in USA) and another game Grepolis. Both free browser based games, but I couldn't find any info regarding their software, if they have drm, stuff that equates to spyware, etc. I searched on their sites and on google.

My goodness god. I can not list them all but recently I got

Skyrim 3x from PCG STEAM Friends

On CAG alone I have gotten over 40+ games from forum friends.

All of the Indie Bundles I got from CAG forum friends.

I won a contest for Serious Sam - The Platformer Shooter one.

On Greenman gaming I got Arma II, Romanum Impervium, Men Of War, Tower Bloxx, Sonic Generations and more.

I got Mass Effects 3 from a The Escapist forum friend but gave it right back, I have no interest in that series.

I got Ultimate Spider-Man from LAN party grab bag.

I have over 400+ free retail games installed. Never put nothing but the name Megazell down for them.

As for freeware and f2p - There are over 94 million games available. 75% of those games are zip files with single player content.

I'm walking away from f2p games as we speak so if you're looking for DRM info and the game is always online - you've already answered your question.
