Earphones / Headphones

I'm currently living in China right now, which means I do a lot of walking since I can't drive. It's quite noisy outside with all the street life, so I'm looking for a nice set of earphones or headphones.

I'd like to try and spend under $100 - closer to the $50 range if possible. Hopefully getting something that is comfortable, sounds good on all sorts of music (don't need heavy bass as I don't listen to hip hop or club music), preferably something to cancel out the outside noise (In-ear?) and also portable.

Thanks,
vpr
I was doing a little research on headphones myself the other day, from my research found the best cheap headphones looked to be these ones:

http://www.amazon.com/BEHRINGER-HPX...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1177794668&sr=1-3

Not sure if they ship overseas though
I have a friend from the States coming to visit in May, so I plan to ship them to his address and have him bring them w/ him :p

I'll check these out - thanks for the reply.

**EDIT: Ah they seem nice, but not something I'd want to wear in the street. Looking for something more discreet.

Ultimate Ears Metro.fi 2 - $64.00, Amazon
Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio - $72.00, Amazon

Also, try www.head-fi.org. They've got a very knowledgable crowd who can give you some more suggestions for isolation/in-ear/portable for $50-100. Good luck.

Shure E3c Headphones. They can be found online for around 130. Solid sounding in ear phones.

ER6-i are good and can be found for 70-80. Crossroads Mylar Three/MylarOne X3 are good too for around 60-70 but they don't isolate as well as the Er-6i. I own the ER6i and Super.fi 5 Pro. Fantastic IEMs.

I own a pair of Shure E3Cs and I have to say they are quite impressive. Good isolation and great sound reproduction. It's not that boomy on the bass so if that's what you like you might want to steer away. Otherwise, on mids and highs, these in-ear monitors are awesome.

One thing to consider is any noise cancelling earbud could prove to be a safety liability. You won't really realize how much your sense of hearing is used while walking until you don't hear ambient noise. Just a little piece of advice. So I would recommend earbuds just not the noise cancelling kind. I personally own shure E3C and E2C and am constantly amazed by how much sound they block. Just an FYI as it sounds like your walks are in pretty congested areas, you will definitely want to be able to hear someone say "Look Out" or "Stop" in the local chinese dialect of course, just my opinion.

That's a great link. And from there, they link to a review website which looks like it has a neat-o search function.

I own a pair of E2C that I got from circuit city with employe discount before I left. So i got them for about 60, with there regular price tag being 100. I would suggest any Shure earbuds. My E2C are great, probably the best pair of earbuds/headphones I have ever bought, and I would imagine the E3C are even better. i just couldn't force the $130 out ;)

Ditto on the Shure recommendations. If you can afford it, get the e3c's. If not, get the e2's. You can get them from earphonesolutions.com for ~$65 (e2's) or ~$115 (e3's). You've got to email them from their website for their "special prices" but you can't go wrong with them. They also come with a great 2 year warranty. Highly recommended.

Has anybody had the Sennheiser CX300 and the Shure e2c and how do they compare? I can't see myself spending more than the 70 dollars or so for these.

Be sure to do your research, head-fi.org is one of the best places you can go. Theres a lot of overpriced crap out there that sucks. These guys know their stuff.

i got the cx300s for 16 off ebay, i love em

of course i live in NY and i refuse to wear them in both ears while walking down the street because I like to be aware

ive never personally tried out the e2c's, but i was on a budget, and im happy with what i got

Ditto, again. :)
i got the cx300s for 16 off ebay, i love em
I'd be careful about shopping for earphones on ebay. Head-Fi has dozens of threads talking about how there are a lot of fakes, which include earphones like the Sony EX (51/71/90) series, Sennheiser CX300, and Audio-Technicas. Usually the sellers are from outside the US/Canada.

If you want something similar in style and isolation to the CX300, but want to spend about 1/2 of the CX300's price, you could look for the Creative EP630. Head-Fi also has comparison threads between the two.
Has anybody had the Sennheiser CX300 and the Shure e2c and how do they compare?
One big difference is how you wear them. With the E2c, the cord wraps around the back of your ear for a proper fit. The CX300 are worn the traditional way.
