Just wanted to let you guys know that if you already have Fallout 3 and want all the expansions, just check your local Blockbusters for the game of the year edition and take it home, DL all the expansions you want. Each expansion by itself costs $10 or 800 Microsoft points, while renting it costs about $8 and you can grab all the expansions.

I can confirm this for the 360 version.

Wait, does that mean the GOTY version doesn't have the expansions on disc? I PM'ed it for $40 instead of buying the packs, but the intent was to save drive space. If I'm wrong then I don't need this copy. My original would be enough.

the GOTY version is in two disks. Full original game and a separate disk with all the expansions on it which you have to install.

Just in case anyone doesn't know, it's only for the 360 version. The PS3 version is only one disc, because Blu Ray is a dual-layered disc. So, you wouldn't be able to put it on your HDD.

Wow, even cheaper than game sharing on the PS3? Wow, that's pretty clever... I feel bad for those paid $10 each :(

But the GoTY edition don't have all of the maps right? I thought it came with two, no?

No sir, just install the second disc and you're good to go. Just like Oblivion GOTY.
I didn't make up gamestops policy. It is perfectly legit.
I'm not saying it's not legit, but there is that little tiny bit of guilt because you technically stole. Yes, you have the right to return it if something is wrong, but that's not what you are doing.

I'm guessing the game runs off of the Fallout 3 disc and the expansions are accessed from the HD so you would only need the main game disc to play.

The GS's around me have been perfectly fine with it. They always say that if you buy it used, play it, and just feel like returning it for any reason then they have no problem with it.

It doesn't just have to be it not working, it could suck, or you could just want something else.

They're probably on DVD-9s anyway, so the DVDs are also dual-layered, the issue is probably just that the DVDs don't have enough space for all of it, so it's on two discs.

So it's not that they're dual-layered, just that they hold more.

Irrelevant additional information. :p
I just think that in this particular situation, renting it would be better.
Because you don't end up completely not paying for it?

And thanks, Spaz, I never actually knew there were dual-layered DVDs besides Blu Rays.

Yes, because at least someone is getting money they deserve. The expansions were well worth the $10 a piece price tag, so if you're getting them cheap/free, at least pay a little for 'em. That's all I'm saying. Plus, then you don't have to have the awkward talk with the manager about what's "wrong" with the game.

Why did someone tag this "fraud"? Nothing more legit than going to a place, renting a game and returning it. =[

I'm pretty sure this does not work for the ps3 so I wouldn't rent it with the intention of using your old save.

This idea is awesome. What a great way to save money.

I definitely think the renting idea is the best so at least you're not "stealing" the games, even if you are still working the system.

Let's be fair, this is still piracy. You might not have downloaded it illegally, but by renting it you're only licensed to play it during the rental period. By buying/returning to Gamestop you're also only licensed to play it while you own the disc. The bottom line is that you're using something you didn't pay for and therefore you are stealing no matter how you justify the means of which it came into your possession.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no angel when it comes to digital media, but frankly I'm surprised that this can be openly discussed given the policies of this board, that's all.

So you never recorded anything you ever rented or borrowed? EVER? No casette tapes, no CD's, no VHS, nothing?
