EB Canada not taking PS3 Pre-orders

I stood in line and the manager came and told us all that only the United States was taking preorders and due to limited numbers in Canada, no EB Canada stores would be taking preorders

Yet, you'd still make $1000 profit on eBay.

Anyway, I'm hearing that there's a conference call today. Seeing as yesterday was Thanksgiving, that's why we might be late on this one. I might call back later. I need textbook money dammit.

Luckily this thread is about the Canadian PS3 Pre-order situtation, and not a thread to post your lame opinions.
Toys'r'us is probably taking pre-orders. I know they opened Wii pre-orders months ago.
Unfortunately, ToysRUs stopped taking Wii and PS3 preorders around the end of September. I have a Wii preorder, but I have serious doubts as to whether or not they'll be able to fill it...

Toys R Us started pre-orders back in February for Wii and PS3. They were bundles and this was before they knew release date/price/shipments. I highly doubt those who pre-ordered are all getting a system. Either way, they aren't taking pre-orders anymore.

I think EB is the last chance. We'll see how Future Shop and Best Buy are.

The manager mentioned Canada receiving around only 40 000 units.....which is not cool by any means. Regardless of the units Canada gets, I don't see why we would be unable to preorder?

I just dont think they see a point in preordering the PS3 with so few units. They know either way a bunch of people are gunna line up, and they know they'll get rid of them no problem...it just doesn't make sense for a business standpoint. If I was them I wouldn't preorder either...

It makes sense to pre-order for them actually. 40,000 units multiplied by $100 is $4,000,000 for EB that they can collect interest on for a month. Pre-orders definitely benefit them.

And 40,000 for Canada is about right. We're only 10% or less of the US market.

EB won't be receiving all 40,000 units. That number would include consoles sold at Best Buy, Wal-mart, Zeller's, etc.

The number of consoles that EB would receive won't be anywhere near 40,000. And that's for all the EBs in Canada. I suspect this is the source of why they won't take pre-orders.

If the U.S. stores only have 8-12 PS3s per store, can you imagine how many PS3s each EB Canada store would be receiving? Maybe 2-4 PS3s per store? Then can you imagine trying to handle pre-orders for that many consoles? Talk about mass chaos & insanity, not to mention a LOT of customers who wouldn't be able to pre-order.

For those of you hoping to profit by selling your PS3 on eBay, rumor has it that eBay won't be allowing any auctions for the PS3 console until early next year. If that's true, and yes its still only a rumor, then say goodbye to people trying to sell their PS3 for overinflated prices on eBay.

That rumour is so stupid it's not even funny. Xbox 360 sales on eBay accounted for about 10% of eBay's revenue in November 2005. There's no way in hell they're going to agree to not sell PS3s. Even if they did, all that would happen is that they'll lose business to another website like Yahoo Auctions. Without eBay, prices might be even higher because there won't be one central location people will mostly be buying from.

Anyway, it's been confirmed that Canadian EBs are taking pre-orders soon. Within the next two weeks. A guy who's proven to be credible confirmed it on GAF.

Where exactly did you get the information that Xbox 360 sales were 10% of eBay's revenue in November of 2005?

As for the pre-order information, its up on EB's webpage right now.

http://www.ebgames.com/gs/ps3/sweepstakes.asp?

"Information regarding the launch date of our Canadian in-store pre-order will be posted when available."

After you sign up, it says:

"Thanks for signing up! We'll let you know as soon as we have more information."

They get to keep the money down on preorders? Or where is this extra 100 bucks for each system coming from? Anyway my EB said they might take preorders @ the end of the month...

I don't rememeber on the 360 thing. Either way, there's no way that eBay is willing to let go off all the revenue they'd get from the PS3s.

Spades, if they get the money early, it means they get to earn interest on that money. If they don't get it early, they don't get the interest. Also, it's like a guaranteed customer if you pre-order. It works out very well for them.

Unless sony is willing to fit the bill to keep it from happening.

Ya I guess but they could get a lot of mad customers if they find they don't have enough, especially considering how few they're sending out already. I phoned some stores in Canada and they said they're getting ONLY 2-3 UNITS! Pathetic...
Unless sony is willing to fit the bill to keep it from happening.
Not gonna help Sony or eBay if that happens. All that will happen is Yahoo Auctions will see a huge spike in users. That or people will use places like CAG Trading or Craigslist.org or something. Not only that, but since it'll be so hard to find a site to get it from, prices might be even higher.

Sony doesn't give a damn who gets their system for what price anyway. If it sells for $2000+ on eBay, then they can show off about how sought after their product was and how it was such a hot item during the holidays. Seriously, this is win+win for them.

I don't know. I'm hearing different things from different sources. Yesterday, in store, I was told that my preorder only guarantees me a place in line, but then I got this e-mail from TRU.ca:
"Yes, if you have a preorder from your local store then you will receive the item when it is released. Thank you, once again, for contacting the "R" Us Family and I do apologize for the inconvenience also if you need further assistance please call (800)toysrus."
So who knows. I think I'm going to preorder through EB Games on Friday am, and return my ToysRUs preorder for a refund, because they have no clue what they're doing.
