EB Games/Gamestop, the WORST company to work for!

I dont know why theres so many gamestop/eb games threads/posts hating on them, if you dont like them, just dont go there... or dont work there. :/
that's why you ask questions when youre going to get hired, not just take the job, work, then complain that it really sucks.. it's your own fault for working there... and wanting to. :/
 
OP trying working at 7-11, then you'll really have a reason to bitch about a shitty job. I've thought about working at GS myself, as there are about 4 within a half mile radius of each other. Well out of them 1 is an EB and 1 GS, both of which are in a mall. I've done my time working in a mall so thats a no go there.

Next job I get, if I like it and the management aren't assholes (unlike the time I worked at OfficeMax and was denied a promotion to night stocking, because the redneck manager thought I couldn't do it because of my right arm, its a birth injury, long story...), I'd actually like something were I could move up into managment or something.
 
I'm applying to a GS in my area and the minimum wage in Washington is 7.63, not bad but not great, first job. What do you expect at GS? You expect to be paid 20+ an hour and a personal back massager?
 
Just as a counterpoint considering I know a few people who work at EB/GS, sometimes it's the only available job in the area that they can work with the hours they have available and all of the money they make from EB/GS helps pay towards food since everything else they have goes immediately towards their college expenses and rent.

It's a shame but working there is pretty much equivalent to a trap. It also explains why almost everyone who worked in EB/GS over the age of 30 have disappeared over the years and appeared in other stores instead. It's a shame, too, since they were getting royally screwed way back when as well when it came to a pay versus work ratio.

At least it could have been worse, although that's no comfort. Some people I know push preowned and Edge Cards like crazy, meet their quotas, and yet they get their hours drastically reduced. Why, I have no idea.

Then again, to be completely fair, don't expect upper management to ever understand its workers. I've been in places where everyone around you can be great and it's actually fun to come to work but the people at the very top get furious at ~anything~ that goes wrong. Did you work 5 minutes into overtime pay even though you had to? You're going to get an earful. Are you earning more money than the higher-ups want you to? You're getting a talk. Are you salaried rather than paid by the hour? You get to work an extra 20 hours a week without any extra pay because you aren't eligible for overtime.

I better stop before I start ranting about Simon Malls and their wonderful "holidays" and "holiday hours".
 
Quit yer whinin, OP. I got paid around 35 bucks to scrub an appendectomy on a pregnant woman that was going into early labor because she was so sick. I'm not complaining about the pay but just illustrating what you have to do to get some real cash in this world. You better believe if she or her baby had died during the operation my ass would be looking to buy a nice suit so I could look good for the judge and jury. I gave up 4 years to Uncle Sam and the shitty ass United States Air Force to learn what I do and I'm glad that I did. Pay your dues, OP. You're 17 years old and from what I've read you sound like a pretentious prick that feels entitled to a 6 figure job when you get out of college.

It's a crappy company to work for if you're working in their shitty stores, but if you're in the corporate building with a corporate job than it's a different story. fuck gamestop!
 
Guys, working in anyone's shitty store for less than ten bucks an hour sucks. Go back to school, take a class, find an apprenticeship, join the military, whatever. Just don't expect sympathy for your plight.
 
Now this is the thing that pissed me off the most, they had the nerve to search me, as they do with all employees, for stolen merchandise. Gamestop installs zero trust in their employees, and expects them to perform to a quota, but refused to pay accordingly.

What I don't understand is that you quit because they searched you for stolen items? What did you get caught?
 
In California min. wage is 6.75 and that's how much I earn working at my restaurant job. But with Tips it pretty much evens out....sometimes. I average around $20-$25/hr with tips and min. wage combined. But it's just not worth the hassle from the customers you get sometimes.

My other job I work for the City of Sunnyvale. I started working there when I was 16 cleaning pools and I've been working my way up towards a full time job with benefits. Granted, it's lower wage than what I make at the restaurant, but it's stable. I'm 20 now and I'm working in admin.

So quit your bitchin. Retail is no fun, but you gotta start somewhere. Take the Experience, put it on your resume, quit on a good note, and find a better job elsewhere.

Saw the manager search a guy going off shift at my local EB a few months back (and have heard others mention it on here) so yep it's true. Had him empty out his pockets and untuck his shirt IIRC. But I thought it was a little odd to search an employee right in front of a customer... Are they not supposed to do it that way or does it not really matter?
