EB Games winter sale 1/13 - 1/22/06

tenzor

CAGiversary!
PLEASE READ FIRST
A lot of vouchers, but a few good deals in there, all prices are SUBJECT to CHANGE, Some of the deals didn't list the price and just said save $10.00 after gift voucher, well I added the final price as if it was on sale today. (EXAMPLE: Virtua Tennis PSP is currently $19.99, and has a $10 voucher in this sale which will make it $9.99 after the voucher. EB could change prices from now until the sale. So dont bitch if it happens.

Gift Vouchers come in the form of a certificate (store credit only), that you get in the mail. They usually take anywhere from 4-8 weeks. When you purchase anything on sale that has a voucher, the computer should print it out along with your receipt. Just follow the instructions on the paper that prints out w/ your receipt, and mail it in. Just like most rebates, the gift vouchers require a UPC code so you may have to cut it out.

SALE BEGINS 1/13/05
Will be getting a Doom 3 CE tomorrow (already have it but for 10 bucks, I will take the other to Rhino as one half of the trade 2 for 1 deal... essentially I am getting 25 in store credit for it)

If you are concerned about getting a copy call your local EB and see if they will reserve one, mine did and Ill pick it up during lunch tomorrow
Did they verify that it's going to be $9.99 for the CE tommorow?
Okay, this may be a stupid question but:

Is this sale strictly for EB only, or will it be at Gamestop as well. It is my understanding that these two companies have merged, so I was just curious if this sale would be happening at both stores? Thanks in advance.
Exactly what I want to know

They are still function as two different companies, some of their prices are not even the same.. same goes for sales like this.

Anyone, anyone....I'm surprised that nobody has commented this morning. I'll be heading over to EB, if I have time, after my oil change this morning.
Anyone, anyone....I'm surprised that nobody has commented this morning. I'll be heading over to EB, if I have time, after my oil change this morning.
I hear you on the oil change lurknomore. I went to EB this morning and they didnt have any copies of Doom 3 CE. I called another EB about 30 miles away from me and the guy said that he would hold a copy for me. I'm gonna go and pick it up before I have to get my oil changed. I would say call your EB first and reserve it if you want to save a trip or if you have to work until a certain time. The guys at the EB I went to and the one I called didnt even have any idea it was on sale for $9.99 even though the ad was right there in front of them.

I am going to pick up the ad and go next door to Wal-Mart and pricematch the Doom CE. I really don't want an open one with stickers all over it.

These games are currently $9.99 at EBGames.com (check 'Price Drops' in the GBA Hot Deals section) - no mention of the voucher - with a 1 per person limit on each game.

They didn't even know about the sale at the EB over here. He pulled the fliers out of a box, they were still sealed.
Most rebates from retail stores are handled by an outside company, to my knowledge.
they could always say After XX date any Eb gift rebates will no longer be honored.

stay away from them then cause they will say THat was a temp price drop and they wont honor the rebate

Of course the Wal-Mart next door to the EBGames didn't have it.

THanks guys, just picked up Doom III: CE for $10.76 new and mintly sealed. They had a bunch in the back. It was odd because none of the workers knew about this deal, and after I bought one, like 5 more people in the store bought one as well. Thanks again:cool: .

Picked up Doom 3 CE after I called to ask them to hold it. It was the display copy that they had so it has the annoying stickers on the slipcover. I guess I'm goona have to get some goo gone or other solutions that you guys have recommended to get them off in the past. For $10 it's definitely worth the hassle to me. Thanks again all.
Any word on if Viruta Tennis had it's priced raised?
I was there today and I asked them about it. It's still $19.99. So it would be $10 when you receive your $10 voucher in the mail.

It was funny because the manager there was like "DOOM 3:CE for $$10?" He knew about the sale but when something's $10, he just skips that part of the ad. Iguess he thought the $10 section was games he wasn't interested in.

Same here, but for some strange reason my stickers came off really easy....no clue why.

Also picked up Sliders s. 1/2 for $21.79 a/edge.

No one has answered my question yet on cutting out the UPC. Has anyone here mailed it any of these new rebate forms where you're supposed to cut out the UPC?

Picked up Doom CE. EB manager was surprised at the price. He was also bummed because it was the last one. Thanks for the heads up OP!

Got the final display copy of Doom 3 CE, same scenario as a lot of you CAGs. Didn't have a slip cover, but I didn't really care since the seal was untouched and I would've just tossed the cover anyway.

if memory serves correctly, that last time we ran a mail in voucher thing, it was a voucher to use in the store, so that's something to think about.

Thats coming from an EBgames in Ohio though, so what do you expect...lol, i usually get flamed by dumb decisions sometimes. but hey, i just scan games and handle teh monies.

Hmmm, does anyone know if this is online also. I looked up DOOM at the site, didn't see anything listed for the vouchers (DOOM is still priced higher at my EB Games, it isn't $20 yet).

How many people still play the PC version of Star Wars: Battlefront online? It's tempting, but if I'm not going to have competition, then I'm not going to waste my money.

Besides...I've got a floor full of engineers here to hang out with. We've always got our Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, and Halo for consoles, and our Warcraft III and Jedi Knight LAN games to keep us busy. :)

Has anyone had any problems getting Doom 3:CE for $9.99? The guy at my EB knew nothing about it, and he said when he price checked that it came up $19.99.

I thought the price was the same at all locations.

Same here... the EB person said Doom 3 CE was $19.99 and used was $17.99.

Are EB stores getting flyers for this sale (i don't see it on the website)?

I was thinking about PM at some other store due to all the confusion.

Picked up the last sealed Doom 3 CE in Staten Island, and it also rang up $19.99. Told her it should be $10 and she didnt even look at the flyer. Just put in a discount code and $10.84 later, I was out the door.

They didnt have Virtua Tennis there, so I went to the EB in Woodbridge, NJ and picked up the last one for $19.99, with a $10 mail-in voucher that prints out with the receipt. Of course it says original UPC required, but hopefully it works like the rest of the vouchers when I send in the usual copy and the price sticker.

Yup, check the winter sale ads in their stores. I went in today and it rang up as 19.99. Told the clerk that it showed as 9.99 in the ad, and he said that was after a voucher. I pointed it out to him (it clearly said 9.99, nothing about a voucher or mail in rebate), and he corrected it. Good deal! I'll probably never play it, but it's nice to have.

thanks again tenzor!
I updated the OP with links for some of the better offers which are available online. I'll probably front page the highlights on Monday.

Probably more like $25 or $30 trade in credit, but yes, they take non-working systems.

I grabbed Virtua Tennis the other night too. I'm gonna try your UPC copy/sticker combo. I'm gonna hold you responsible if it doesn't work. ;)

Realy? I traded in a busted GBA last year and they gave me full credit... they started taking money off since when? Shoot my xbox dosnt play alot of the newer games, maybe i wont trade it in then...
Probably more like $25 or $30 trade in credit, but yes, they take non-working systems.
When I traded in my opened-up Xbox at the end of October (thank you, Microsoft, you fuckers) during a $10 more on trade-in promotion, they gave me $25 on the console (since it was open, they had to call it "broken") and the extra $10 netted out $35.

So, as Trakan said, they will take broken systems. Still need console + controller + cables for them to accept it.

Anyone who got the Doom 3 Limited Edition, can i please have your 2 month free trial if you are not using it? Even if it expired it still works, any help will be GREATLY apreciated.

Got the last copy of Doom 3 CE in my area. I had to call 3 stores, but I tracked one down.

If anyone is interested in playing Co-op mode over Live, I'm going to start a thread in the Xbox forum for it.

As for Doom, it rings as 19.99 until the total is applied. And I'm not sure what winter ad you are looking at, but if it's the three fold flyer with all the coupons, it's not on it. At least not at the store I went to.

Dude i thought its in there... look at the middle page, it shows doom 3 and the LE listed for $10 each.

Ok, I picked up Doom 3 CE for about $9 but I have a story....

I went to the EB Games in the University Mall in Burlington, VT (so HI to all the VT CAGers) and they had the games that were on sale on their own shelf with nice signage. Unfortunately, the signs for Doom 3 indicated that it was $10 AFTER a $10 mail-in rebate thing. I asked a sales guy how the rebate worked (whether it was $10 back or $10 off a future purchase) and he said that he had no idea. Idiot.

I didn't see any fliers but they could've been hidden.

My roomie and I went to the EB Games in Williston, VT and they did have the fliers there, right up at the counter, and not a lot of signage for the sale. They did have the regular Doom 3 on the shelf but I wanted the CE. I asked if they had any copies left and they said that they did not.

Note: The flier states that Doom 3 and Doom 3: CE are just a straight-up $9.99...no mail-in BS or whatever.

I checked the Best Buy in town if they had any and they did not. Finally, I went to the Circuit City and they had plenty of copies left. I asked a sales guy if they did price matches (I have never done one before) and he said "maybe"...ok. I showed him the flier and he looked at that and the game for a minute or two before sending me up to Customer Service.

I had the fortune of getting the most retarted Customer Service person. She had no idea what I was trying to do and seemed very confused when I told her it was a sale going on at EB Games. She had never heard of them before and asked me where they were located, and other random questions like that. She was trying to locate their number in the phone book without success (she looked under electronics...as in, appliances) and then finally decided to just give me the price match. The game rung up as $20 (it was marked $30) and I got the game for $9 because they deduct 10% of the difference, or something.

It was a hassle but only because the employees were morons. Oh well.
Dude i thought its in there... look at the middle page, it shows doom 3 and the LE listed for $10 each.
Nope. At least not the one I saw. Had to ask.

Picked up Virtua Tennis and Infected. Infected rang up $19.99 and printied out the 10 rebate. So Infected for $9.99 after rebate.
