EB Games winter sale 1/13 - 1/22/06

tenzor

CAGiversary!
PLEASE READ FIRST
A lot of vouchers, but a few good deals in there, all prices are SUBJECT to CHANGE, Some of the deals didn't list the price and just said save $10.00 after gift voucher, well I added the final price as if it was on sale today. (EXAMPLE: Virtua Tennis PSP is currently $19.99, and has a $10 voucher in this sale which will make it $9.99 after the voucher. EB could change prices from now until the sale. So dont bitch if it happens.

Gift Vouchers come in the form of a certificate (store credit only), that you get in the mail. They usually take anywhere from 4-8 weeks. When you purchase anything on sale that has a voucher, the computer should print it out along with your receipt. Just follow the instructions on the paper that prints out w/ your receipt, and mail it in. Just like most rebates, the gift vouchers require a UPC code so you may have to cut it out.

SALE BEGINS 1/13/05
expect EB to pull major bullshit about half of these vouchers and you will never see them. just like the Paper mario 2... they will say UMMM the tennis was to be 29.99 and it was a temp price drop to 19..99 so we wont honor the rebates

fuck eb
If this is the case, my business relationship with EB Games is OVER. It's hanging by a thread as it is, but I figured the Virtua Tennis deal was too good to pass up. However, every transaction I've ever had with EB has been piss poor at best. Their prices are usually the highest around (I've bought many-a brand new game at other stores for less than what their used games cost), and the corporations' business practices are horrible. They screwed my step-brother out of a DS when it launched, he'd paid IN FULL about 6 months in advance on a pre-order and they sold it to someone else because the manager decided to play "get here in 30 minutes or I'm selling it to someone else" then refused to refund his money. Corporate gave some line about Nintendo made them sell all their units the first day or they'd go to the end of the line for future shipments (which sounds shady, but I've heard from other EB people it was the same deal), which fine, if that's how it is they claimed they knew a month in advance that this was the case but never told any of their pre-order people that they'd have to get there the morning of the console launch or else their already-paid-for product would be gone. That had to be settled with a few calls to the BBB.

The Paper Mario debacle was the same type of deal. THEY screwed up in advertising the $20 rebate and then dropping the price to $20. I understand why they wouldn't want to honor it because they're basically giving games away for free, but in the end it was THEIR mistake. It was their responsibility to print a correction and display it in-store, which the store I went to did not, and on top of that the employee (asst manager) told me that yes, they would still be honoring the gift voucher offer. So it's their obligation to honor that unless and until they inform their customers otherwise.

We'll see about the Virtua Tennis deal. You can bet I won't be opening it until I have the GV in my hands, and if they try and pull the same stunt as they did with Paper Mario, I'll be taking the game back and telling them what they can do with their GV offers.

Sorry to hear of you're bad luck, and I'm sorry but I have 1 more frustration to add, and thats the fact that they now require the original UPC from the package to be sent in with the rebate form, so you will have to open the package to snip it out.

10$ is a good deal however, so it's a small inconvenience.

Found the last Doom 3 CE at my EB, not the best condition and a ton of stickers, but it'll do after some Goo Gone.

Same here basically. I really hate the way EB games treats it stuff. They care less about it then the customer.
Picked up Virtua Tennis and Infected. Infected rang up $19.99 and printied out the 10 rebate. So Infected for $9.99 after rebate.
Nice... I want this...

just price match it, i'm sure there's a CC or BB close to EB. it's what i did, but the thing that pissed me off was that they didn't take the 10% of the difference off like their policy says, unless they changed that. still, $10 before tax versus $8 before tax isn't a big deal for such a nice piece of software. i returned the TRU copy i bought for $20 before PMing it thinking $20 was the best i was ever going to get for it. not for a CAG, not on your life.

I went to my BB and CC first to try and PM this since that was my first inclination to do, but none of them have Doom 3 CE any more.

Did you do it at BB or CC? CC generally takes off the 10% of the difference at the point of sale, but BB will only give you the 10% of the difference if you first purchased the item, and then come back for a pricematch.

Has anyone else bought infected and had it ring up for $19.99? I hadn't even given it a thought at $29.99 less $10 voucher, but at $19.99 less $10 voucher, I'd consider it.

I finally found a copy of Doom CE.

It might have been a display copy, like how EB typically does it...

The case was already open and the seal broken but when the EB guy grabbed the disc for me, it looked brand new... so i grabbed it for $9.99.

Just to make sure I got everything in the CE - it's just one disc and the manual (besides the sturdier case and slip-on sleeve)???

That's exactly the condition mine was when I picked it up last week. The stickers on the slipcover that I had actually came off pretty easily so I was surprised considering work I've gone through in the past with EB's stickering.

Same here, it's not on EB's website though.

I found one (the last one, apparently) at the Woodland, CA EB Games today. It was sealed and brand new...not opened in anyway. The guy looked a bit surprised when I asked about the CE specifically, checked on the computer, his reaction told me they had one, then he started searching behind him on the shelves...

Anyways, I opened a copy of the winter sale catalog in front of me on the counter and pointed to it and the price, and he got really surprised and kept repeatedly muttering, "thats a really good game...thats a really good price...damn..."

Anyways, I have it on my desk right now...its really nice...fully sealed, it comes with a hard plastic cover that goes around the metal box and adds the "xbox live" black, green, and gold top bar, the esrb rating, and the id logo...for 10 bucks, even if I didn't like doom 3 on the PC, even if I don't really like dark FPS...you can't go wrong.

Thanks again to OP.

w00t.

Infected for $19.99... can anyone confirm?

I couldn't get EB to pick up their damn phone tonight, and the website still lists it for $29.99.

Yes. I confirmed at EBs in two different states this price. Game is barely worth $10. :)

EB in PA charged $29.99 for Infected and $19.99 for Virtua Tennis. I feel a little robbed after reading this comment:
Yes. I confirmed at EBs in two different states this price. Game is barely worth $10. :)
Meaning that I paid $29.99 for a game that is barely worth $10. Infected for the price of $19.99 is definately YMMV. I suggest calling your local EB and have them look it up in the computer before you run out.
