Ebay - Become a POWERSELLER with 140 feedback?

Is this possible? I received an e-mail from 'ebay' that says since I have such great feedback (140) that I can now become a member of the Bronze PowerSeller. Now, there is a link in the e-mail, and I copy and pasted it into a browser. The page 'looks like ebay' but still smells fishy. Now, my real question is, how much feedback DO you need to become a powerseller?

To qualify you have to have +100 feedback (at least 98% positive) and have a minimum of $1000 in sales for 3 consecutive months. To remain a power seller you have to keep up sales of $1000 monthly for at least 3 out of every 4 months.
Not that this is an Ebay FAQ or anything, but why would you want to be classified as a Power Seller? Discounts or something?
Fairly sure it's just a flashy title. ;)

I saw another post around either here or another board about the same thing. It's a scam. If you're really interested in becoming a Power Seller, try going direct through eBay's website.

Not totally true. When I got Powerseller status, I got a legit email straight from Ebay asking me if I wanted to join. As long as you have a certain percentage of positve feedback (maybe +99%?) and a specific volume of sales for 3 months (I think $1000 is accurate for the base Bronze level) you can be classified as a Powerseller.

It's a trap!

I got the same message, and have certainly not sold thousands of dollars recently - more like a couple of hundred.

For future reference, ebay emails to you will ALWAYS start with "Dear ," and not "Dear Ebay User" or somesuch.

Ebay has a great faq on how to spot scams. There are other ways, but the above is the quickest.

Genocidal's right. I'd go straight to eBay to see if you've really qualified. Here's a good link: http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/welcome.html

I avoided becoming a Powerseller for a long time because I didn't realize you could opt to turn the Powerseller Icon off that appears next to your eBay name (a lot of eBayers shy away from Powersellers, thinking they won't get personal treatment & attention so I didn't want anyone to know I was a Powerseller)...But since you CAN turn the logo off, it's TOTALLY worth it.

The main benefit of becoming a Powerseller is that eBay has a special support staff dedicated to answering your questions/concerns...in a timely manner, no less! They really bend over backwards for you. Your questions get answered promptly, and I've found that they are actually concerned when you have a problem. They want to make your selling experience as easy as possible once they know you're a successful seller since your success means more money for eBay.

It is a damn scam. These guys get your Ebay information, and then they list listings under your account. Don't do it!! It is a scam!!!

I got that same email started out like this

Dear XXXXXXX(my ebay user name)

it looked very legit, nice graphics, dident even have a hotlink in it just told me to go to ebay.com and go to sitemap then powerseller benefits and sign up, so i think mine was legit

It could be legit, but just to be safe go through ebay's website (go to help and do a search for power seller, it should give instructions). I was a power seller with around 300 feedback for about 2 months, though ebay revoked my status a few days ago. I got one of those e-mails to, but it didn't seem to be asking for info, but I still went to ebay.com on my own to make sure. It probably was from ebay, never got another one.

no shit lol..

This reminds me of the times I would get e-mails from AOL saying they had an emergency system failure and I needed to change my password. They even sent me a handy link to change it. I clicked on it for shits and giggles, and wow, I was impressed. Looked exactly like the AOL homepage, right down to the different links and such. Only problem on their part was, the website address was a bunch of numbers and letters (obiviously) Wonder how many people they suckered in :(

Just foward the email to [email protected] and they will tell you if they sent you the email or not. They are pretty prompt with a response.
