How do you retract your bid? I've lost an auction and bidded on another one and now the orginal ebayer is offering to sell me the item because someone backed out.

The only way to retract a bid is if you do it almost immediately after placing it and obviously input the wrong number (IE: put 1002.5 instead of 100.25).
 
You can retract a bid, but it looks pretty bad. And your situation is not a valid reason to retract a bid per eBays rules and regs.

You could either claim one of those reasons apply to you and retract it, contact the seller to see if he will cancel your bid, or take your chances and hope you are outbid.
