Hello all.

I recently sold Crimson Sea on Ebay. I get an email from the highest bidder along with paypal payment stating that he is glad he won Crimson SKIES. I email him back and tell him that it is Crimson Sea. Two days later I finally get a response back to "refund the payment, I made a mistake". I haven't mailed out the game yet, and am now pissed off that some newbie to ebay can't bother to read the auction, nor LOOK AT THE PICTURE of the actual game before bidding and paying for it! I want to tell him that I'll refund everything but my listing, paypal, and ending fees. What would you guys do?
 
I would tell him whatever, you bought this game and now it is yours. Send it to him with delivery confirmation. Keep the emails incase there is a paypal complaint.
 
Not refund at all, and tell him to read better from now on. Tell him if he gives you negative feedback, that you'll report him to ebay for fraud. (He's a noob, how will he know you're lying? :D)
 
Exactly! There is no way you should have to eat those fees!

Another option is for him to go through ebay himself to cancel his bid. Maybe that will help your cause.
 
The item was purchased with Buy it Now, and I require instant purchase with all my auctions. What kills me is that I have a big a$$ picture of the game, along with a clear description of the item, and a BOLD title stating what it is.
 
I would mail him the game. If he had bought it on a website they would not do a refund for him.
 
Yeah, just keep the amount of your fees. It's not worth all the trouble to tell him "too bad". Just let him know what you're doing, and remind him that other sellers will not be so kind as you are being.
 
I agree, take out what it cost you to list and refund the rest, that is pretty fair , let him know straight up why you're doing it though
 
I'm going to offer him my copy of Crimson Skies and see if he takes it. If not, then I'll refund minus fees, etc.. I was looking to get rid of Crimson Skies anyway to now purchase the Live kit with CS already in the box.

It's amazing to me how critical some people are. It's like you never made a mistake before.

If you order something off Amazon, and tell them you want to cancel the order, and it hasn't been shipped yet, then they will have no problem cancelling.

I, for one, think the OP is doing a very good thing by offering the buyer what he was looking for. You'll find later in life that good gestures always get returned some way or another.

And eBay will allow you to get those fees back, so there is no reason to send the game the buyer doesn't want. There's also no reason to risk a negative over something that can be easily resolved.

I admire your generosity, but only do this if you think you've gotten a fair value for Crimson Skies. Offering him a refund, minus listing fees, is good karma enough.

I agree with fwacce, these sort of things come back you.
 
You shouldn't have told him his mistake, because it is his fault, and just mailed the game and when he got it in the mail, he would have checked the auction only to see that he actually bought Crimson Sea.
 
If you really want to give him crimson skies, ask for more money. I am pretty sure that skies is worth more than sea. Then if he declines paying you more then you could still send him crimson sea or refund minus fees.
 
Can you give a link to the auction? I just was wondering how much he would be paying for CSkies. Also I would keep the box if you are going to do him a favor. The one in the XBL starter kit is just the disc, I think.

For one thing you can NEVER get your Ebay listing fee back. The only thing Ebay will refund is the final value fee. AND, you have to wait 10 days for that to happen. Since you are forfeiting the listing fee anyway, I would make this guy send you the ebay and paypal fees to cover his mistake, wait the 10 days to get your final value fee refunded, then leave him him a scathing feedback JUST BEFORE you apply for the final value fee credit if he gives you ANY guff about the non-transaction. You can't leave feedback after a final value fee has been issued, so you don't have to wory about retaliatory feedback from him.
 
If you're feeling generous:
Go through the eBay process of getting refunded the auction fees, mail the guy and tell the guy to please pay more attention.

If you're not:
Refund his money less fees, tell the guy to please pay more attention.

If you're feeling criminal:
Do both.

If you're a mean one:
Mail him the game.

Yes, the guy made a stupid mistake. No, he doesn't deserve to be punished for it.

You can leave feedback at any time after an auction ends, regardless if the FVF has been refunded.

You can also relist the item using the initial listing fee once you go through the non-paying bidder process. So, you can get those back. The fact is that the seller will not be out anything except for a little time. Is that so bad to help someone who just didn't understand. Let me know how perfection feels sometime when you get a chance.

No, you can't. Once the final value fee has been issued, neither party can leave feedback. It's as if the transaction was void, not erased, but locked. I've had to do this dozens of times because of non-paying, or other idiotic bidders.
 
Most newbie bidders who make such mistakes will agree to pay the ebay fees for THEIR mistake. It's better than eating a bad purchase, and better than getting or giving any negative feedback. I've offered it a few times and they've agreed every time.
 
screw him...before you buy something, you should know what you're buying....unless of course you have so much money that you just dont care....in that case, he wouldn't be asking for a refund....either way, he had the chance to know what he was buying....you can be nice and tell him that you have to deduct what the ebay and paypal fees are....or you can just send him the game (thats not nice, but thats not mean either...imo)

AGREED!! Give him the whole "when you bid on an item your signing a legal contract " bullshit
 
Well, I ended up mailing the guy my used copy of Crimson Skies. I figure I couldn't really get more than $25 for it, since that's what he payed for Crimson Sea. Now I can take the money and buy the XBL kit that I wanted anyway.
