Ebay "Special" Customers

CAGiversary!
Ok basically this the clone ofthe CAGer thread about people working retail and thier exp with those special that try so much bull$hit. This story concerns when i used to do Buy it Now=Free shipping auctions. Inthe description i state three times Free shipping through media mail with Buy it now. This guy wins the auction and I send him the invoice after a week of nothing. About 10min later I get an email from the guy threatening me in every manner ebay wise saying i scammed him on shipping and its suppsoed to be free. After 2 days and 10 emails he gives in and pays. I send out the dvd and wait about a month for feedback. He replies he doesnt give feedback untill he recieves it because he wants to keep his 100% positive buyer feedback. I plainly tell him he has been a real a$$ and he can go fuck himself asking for feedback now just so he can leave negative after and get away with it. Well next day lowe and behold he leaves positive.Bottom Line DO NOT give in to assholes if you are the seller. If you have 30+ positive feedback do not be afraid to take a stand against obvious scammers or assholes if you have 29- bend slightly 30+tellem to goto hell

My worst ebay customer was some lady that that bought my copy of Monty Python and Holy Grail special edition.

Disc 1 wouldn't work it would freeze up after like 3 minutes, but the other disc was mint and worked perfectly and the packaging was mint too. So I figured I'd list it for cheap and maybe someone with either a disc only copy looking for packing or maybe someone that lost disc 1 would buy it. Sure enough some lady uses buy it now to win it in November, I ship it and got positive feedback from her right away so I figure everything is fine.

I should also mention I clearly said disc 1 doesn't work. In fact I wrote about 3 sentences describing that it froze up and that I tried to fix it and couldn't get it working. I also wrote it in bold lettering. Since the entire item description was only about 6 sentences and half of them were dedicating to describing the defect I figured the buyer would know what they were getting.

2 months later I get an e-mail from her demanding her money back how she bought this as a gift and it doesn't work. She calls me just about every name in the book and threatens everything ranging up to legal action (all this over a dvd that she paid about 10$ for).

I then calmy linked her to auction and specifically quoted the parts that said disc 1 didn't work and froze and that only disc 2 worked. As well as the part that said "Please read the description so you know exactly what you are bidding on as there will most definately be no refunds".

I never heard from her again.

Good work. See its exactly how it goes. If at first they dont understand thier own incompetance show the original auction and quote the parts that back your part up. You were up against either a noob scammer or just a moron who doesnt know how to read.

More likely someone who simply didn't want to read a paragraph on the item describtion.

Which is why she is a "special" customer. Like I said the part about the defect was in bold, she had to scroll right past it to see the shipping price and info. I have no clue how she missed it?

How about the 500000000000 people that email me with every auction I put up?

"hay il give ya 5 dollars for ur game. it wont sell i seen auction for that before i know it wont sell so just give it to me 5 dollars."

hrm although they are annoying can you count them as customers? asking to buy an item outside of ebay is dangerous and not recommended

I once had a guy try to ask questions regarding a game sold as is. i was selling it because it wasnt compatible with my comp at the time. I plainly state in auction game sold as is because i cannot test it. it may work it may not. he trys to get a statement outta me saying it works. i got like 5 emails from him asking "well since you dont know if it works what if it doesnt work for me because the cd is fucked up? i reply "item is Sold as is fora reason" he insists and trying to get me to guarentee it for him I just blocked his email address. very annoying people you dont know trying to get special treatment

I got a retarded woman emailing me saying that she thought the Spirit of Obiwan figure from the Lay's mail-in offer was made of actual crystal... some people shouldn't breed.

lmao what did she think she could resell it for hundreds of dollars?

There's been a few times (years ago, though) that I've bought some items from sellers outside of eBay. It was usually old books (nothing collectible) under $10. I'd search completed auctions and look for listings with ZERO bids. I wouldn't leave any feedback and it didn't occur to me that eBay was losing $$$ this way. I don't recall a seller refusing -- most were ok with it.

EDIT: I was actually registered with eBay at the time and I'd give my ID/feedback record.

Actually, almost two years ago, I was scouring ebay for DDR metal mats. I see one from a good seller with a BIN of $25 + $25 shipping. I jump on it. He had mistakenly put a BIN of $25 instead of $125, but I had bought it before he could relist it. Well, after a confrontation via emails, he gave in, and I got the mat for $50 shipped! Then, after he left a positive, I ended up giving him a neutral, becuase he took nearly a month to ship! He then offered me $20 to mutually withdrawl the neutral, and so I did. So, I got the mat for $30 total! :D

Here are some of my stories (not really stories but you know what I mean):

1. Buyers from outside of the United States asking if I will ship to their country when I specifically say that I only ship to the United States. I even put it in bold in the description. Sometimes I will give in and agree to ship to Canada if the item is cheap.

2. People offering me less money that what I have the listing set for (buy it now listings). I get at least 1 - 2 of those a week

3. People who complain that shipping takes 5 - 6 days for something to get from one end of the country to the other and that includes weekend days.

The one I get the most is the ones where people are buying a game for a gift for someone and they want me to guarntee that the game will be delivered on time. I hate when people ask me that, because the date it has to get there buy is usually less than a week away. I always say how the game should get there on time but I can't control the delivery once I mail the game.

customers, people trying to be customers...same difference. and yes, I'm aware that selling to morons who try to tell you your items won't sell is a bad idea, thx :p

Because plenty of people bold things.;)

I just stick the words defective and cheap in my title and it seems to solve all those little problems.

I haven't had any really exceptionally bad buyers that I can remember. I've had the usual NPBs. And a guy leave me a neutral FB for no reason (said 'good game') but that's pretty typical stuff.

Most annoying thing for me was when I recently changed my auctions to not list 'Money Order/Cashier Check' as an acceptable payment and instead state 'Other' with a note in the details section that I take only USPS Postal MOs. Of the first 3 MOs I got after changing this only 1 was a USPS Postal Money Order. :dunce:

Had another guy e-mail me right after paying with PayPal that he wanted it shipped to a different address from his payment ship-to. Figured he had a problem with PayPal and couldn't use his real address any longer, but also made me concerned of a scam. But that worked out.

Oh, there was the guy whose game didn't work, gave a full refund and he left a neg anyway. Called ebay and said there was no transaction effectively, and made them remove it.

The woman who went on and on the game didn't include the case and manual as pictured in the auction (oh, you mean the picture that says 'stock photo' underneath it) even though auction said disc only.

The people for whom it is not enough to be sent a confirmation email (I use Endicia to ship), they must email back: thanks for notifiying me; it's been a while (4 days, with a weekend in there) and I haven't gotten it;

The guy who tried to get a refund six weeks after I mailed the game, said he hadn't played it til then. Sure, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

I bought a lacoste shirt recently off ebay...recently being the end of MARCH..ok so I pay for the item (probably the next day after winning)..wait a couple of days..till i get an email saying we're out of stock and we're issuing you a refund..im like OK...ill find another shirt..I get the refund...ok now 3 days ago..i get an email saying i didnt pay please pay..i was like wtf?..so i send the guy an email reminding him how i payed him...next day i get an unpaid strike from ebay! i had to freakin cut and paste emails to prove i paid..what kind of dick does this like a month later after he gave me a refund..it was a waste of 5 minutes of my life =/

That is fucked up. Sellers need to have their shit together better than this or get their asses thrown off eBay.
That is fucked up. Sellers need to have their shit together better than this or get their asses thrown off eBay.
But it will never happen, becuase as long as ebay gets their cut, they don't really give a fuck about anything else. (Most of the time.)

I haven't had many problems with buyers....I hate it when I get a neutral, or the 1 negative I have received for " Not what I was looking for". I sell scrimshaw zippo's, their is a shaq - fu ing picture right their of what it looks like. How the hell can you say not what I was looking for. I also hate it when customers call me to say how they are paying, on monday, I hate a guy leave 3 messages in a row, cause he couldn't get I am mailing the payment to you, in one message. It reminded of the scene in the movie Swingers, when he gets back and calls the girl like 10 times.

I recieved a nuetral once after selling a Nintendo 64 game. I took a picture of everything layed out, including the Nintendo Power offer that comes with every Nintendo game. This particular one had Mario on it.

The neutral said "My little brother says: It didn't come with a free poster of Mario, son".

What the fuck? I replied with "It's not a poster. What was in the picture is what you recieved."

thanks, I figured since the one for people in retail worked well this would give all us fellow CAGers another source for stories and people to watchout for

For the most part Ive had good experiences.... although it is amazing how people do NOT take the time to look over the entire auction description before bidding.

I ALWAYS check to see how much shipping is in something before bidding... it is terrible what people get away with in charging shipping

I list my broken XBox a month or so ago, with a statement saying if the bidding went to I believe it was 55 dollars, I would throw in a controller (official XB controller)... bidding topped out at 53 dollars... worked in my favor

Listed an Army of Darkness (original Universal one I was selling after picking up the 2 disc set).. specifically stating this was NOT the limited version... so I get a winning bid of 9 bucks... the person emails me saying how they THOUGHT it was for the 2 disc version (I paid 35 bucks for mine)... and to l;eave them negative feedback b/c they were not paying for the regular version... that really pissed me off

Yeah...I always see like $9 shipping for games. Sad. It's kind of shady how eBayers can sneak a big price in there. Guess it's your own fault if you don't look, though.

Um...once I bought four copies of Ghost Recon 2, back when it was new and on sale at Kmart. I had received a raincheck for two copies at KMart; now, this took about 1-2 months for them to actually get more copies in stock...but whatever. Right when the sale started, though, I was able to get Sears to pricematch me two copies. This was really fortunate, because I tried at least 6 other stores in town, and none of them would price match an out-of-stock product...

Well, anyway, I sold one copy to a friend for $20, and had a couple more guys who I decided to pick it up for. Since it took so long for me to actually put my raincheck to use, the other guys decided they didn't want 'em. I threw them up on eBay. I spent a bunch of time making my auction look pretty...nice, clean HTML...really professional-looking. I figured I'd make like $10 profit for each game. (I didn't completely understand the way of the CAG back then...I was kind of a mini-hoarder; I guess buying two extra to sell isn't a huge deal, but it does kinda piss me off when I think about what I did; then again, that's not why I bought them in the first place, anyway...they were for friends.) Well, after my 7-day auctions had ended, I saw that this "bulletrider" chick had bought both copies. I kind of grinned and figured she was going to resell them and make a few bucks on each. The cycle continues...

I emailed her an invoice, and stated that she'd need to send something like $70 for the two copies. I received a reply back stating that she accidently bid on both of them. This I find surprising. How is it that you can bid on two different items? Yes, the title and description was identical...but the fact that the bidding price would have been fluctuating should be pretty obvious. (IE: You'd put a bid in for $30...and then later you'd be 'outbid' and would have to put something greater than $27...something's wrong here, right?)

I stayed pretty calm. I just said, "Hey, it's OK." I sent her an email and told her just to send me a few extra bucks for the cost of the auction itself. I received a reply the next day that said, "Oh, I sent the first money order out yesterday...I'll send another one today to cover those auction costs."

I figured she wouldn't read any reply back in time....so I felt pretty bad. She ended up having to go out of her way (who knows if it was far or not) for a $2.00 money order. Pretty lame. I felt kind of like a prick...but it's just the principal of it.

Not really a "special" person (expect that it was a pretty silly thing to get confused over); this was more of an "eBay Moment," I guess.

I've always been pretty lax with my payment deadline (I ask for payment within 2-3 days and threaten to file a NPB report after 7 days, but I usually give extra time), but I'm thinking I should tighten it up after a couple incidents I've had with checks:

- This one lady tries sending me cc Paypal (which I don't accept), but she realizes this before I say anything and offers to send a check the following day. She seems nice and all, but then I don't get the check for another 3 weeks.

- The following guy makes the previous lady seem like a dream customer. He wins my auction and tells me the check will be in the mail the next day. One week later, I ask where the check is, and he says he sent it. We give it one more week before concluding it must've gotten lost in the mail. He tells me a second check has been sent, and I promise to let him know if the other one ever turns up. Another two weeks go by, and I still have squat from this guy. I finally say that we will try one more time, and if I still don't have the money, I will file an NPB report since the odds of three checks by the same perosn getting lost in the mail (let alone even two) are so ridiculously low. A week later, the check arrives, and I know it's only his first check because the date on it shows pretty clearly that he had written the check earlier but never mailed. Besides, the "other checks" never arrived, and now I'm just waiting for him to leave feedback so I can nail him with a neutral for late payment. (I don't give negatives unless the person is very rude and/or they don't pay.)

Got a new one as of yesterday. . .

Dude buys MvsC, doesn't pay. Goes on and on about how he was so excited, he just bid without reading I only accept Paypal. Yeah it's only written in four places, one of which is directly above where you bid.

He's emailing saying he can't get a Paypal account, wants to send check. Uh, no. Says he'll call me with a credit card number. Um, dufus, I am not a store merchant. I do not have a credit card machine growing out of my armpit!

I leave non-paying bidder claim, and I leave a neg. It's my right. You don't read, your fault. He leaves a neg in return (saw it coming) that says "OLD WITCH SOLD ME BOOTLEG GAME! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!"

WTF?! I realize he's ticked, but hey, lesson learned, move on. To outright lie to my potential customers just torques me off. Unluckily for him, my hubby saw it and sent a blazer of an email to him and ebay.

I feel for you on that one. I sold someone something on ebay and stated-at that time-anyone paying by pay pal was required to insure or get delivery confirmation-i was just recently jacked by someone that bid, won, paid, then did a chargeback saying i could prove i shipped when the method he chose to have it shipped didnt come with proof, no biggy, wasnt a big $$$ transaction- anyhoo, after trying to partially pay for the item, i started a dispute. they stated in the dispute they didnt want to pay for dc or ins but wanted to use pay pal. i told them politely it was clearly stated and by bidding and winning you agreed to those terms. i was told they would have to decline in purchasing my item. i win the dispute, leave the neg stating they refused to pay for the item. their neg?-they paid and never recieved. even though the dispute was filed, they lost, its documented they refuse to pay, ebay said its still ok for them to not pay and leave a neg making false accusations.

hey i just had a thought....lets say someonmes does a paypal chargeback after you send whatever you sold him. You dont have any delivery comf or ins and the goof sends u email admitting he just swindled you. You should send him another light but large package with no return address filled with dog shit in an air tight container that opens when you open the box. you lose out a box and like 3 bucks shipping (and some shit lol) but least you might feel slightly avenged

Really what is your user id. if you do not want to blast it here you can always pm it to me. I a in the market for a zippo

I sell glass dishware on ebay usually pre world war 2 or mid 50's stuff.

anyway I sell this lady a plate. if I sell something that has something wrong with it I list it in the auction description.
Anyway so I get this email about sharing info with the person who bought the plate I thought nothing about it.

I get a phone call about 3 hours later from the lady I sold it to. she says there is a tiny scratch about a 1/8 inch on the bottom. She said she does not want it. I tell her that is fine I screwed up and I will fix it. I will refund her the full amount plus her cost for shipping after I get it back. she says okay. then about 15 mins later I get a phone call again its her, she does not want to do it that way. she wants a refund first then she will ship it.

I have over 500 positive, no neg feedback. I tell her I can not do that I was okay to make you feel better, I will send you 25% of the cost and then you will ship it we basically argue for about 15 mins on how to do it and how much to send back. we finally agree on the 25% + her shipping costs. I refund her 31 dollars of the 100 she payed. then she calls again about 30 mins later. She payed with a credit card via paypal. and when I sent a refund. it went into her paypal account which she does not have, she can only send money.

I tell her to call paypal to see what to do cause I can't help her. even though I know how but I was so pissed. cause she kept spouting all of this I am the customers and you sold a defective item blah blah. make me happy. I called paypal and told them I screwed up and refunded the wrong person they gave me the money back and I never heard from her again.
Not familiar with this store, but they sound just like this guy I bought from on eBay once (or tried to buy from on eBay):

I won an auction for a book, and tried to PayPal the guy his money. PayPal told me that his account was closed, so I didn't send any money. I e-mailed the guy, and he didn't reply. Out of courtesy, I gave him 7 days. He never replied, so I left negative feedback. His feedback shortly before, and shortly after (he only posted auctions for 2 weeks after mine) was all negative. I figured that the guy was a deadbeat (he had a checkered past with feedback, but I figured I would take a chance anyway) and since I didn't lose any money, I never gave it another thought.

I just found out a few weeks ago (a year after the auction) that the guy was dead! He had automatically set his computer to post auctions for that month, and he died at the beginning of that month. Weird... :(
i'm quoting another person's ebay story b/c this thread hasn't had a post in a few days, and it has a lot of potential to be entertaining, hehe :)
How did you find out he died?
hehe, you might want to pm saucy jack for the answer. i dunno if he knew i quoted his story in this thread lol! :D

This was a couple years ago. My friends buy a S.T.A.R.S. hat (as Resident Evil) and it never shows up, so we both figure the guy never sent it. Like 4 months after the auction ends a beat up Pepsi box covered in duct tape shows up at my house and as I pick up the flimsy box, the hat falls out. It was a very strange situation and I've never been sure as to how this guy was able mail something using duct tape as a sealant.
