EBgames $59.99 Nintendo DS Promo
No way.
dang... I guess I'll have to find some cheap games I don't want from my collection.
How well would a preplayed system work?
There's no difference between buying a preplayed and trading it in, and trading in a one whose original owner was you. So long as it works.

I'd still be worried about a scratched up touch screen. Have you seen the ones at Wal-Mart?????

I think "deals" like these are retarded.

Unless anyone can find $2 GBA games somewhere and posts the link...

Honestly, the way they look in stores is way off from how durable they are.

I play Warioware and Feel the Magic intensely and haven't seen any deterioration.

Plus, I decided to let my 3 year-old play it and she hasn't caused any damage.

Eh $20 for a game boy and $3 for cheap game boy games a la Xevious is still $95 for a DS and you gotta work for it. And the touch screen is almost guaranteed to be previously raped.

I guess it's only a good deal if you already have the stuff laying around, on the other hand $95 is better than $162.50, atleast thats how much they cost in NY after tax.

There is a good handful of GBA games at EBgames.com for $3.99. After discount that takes them down to $3. Multiply that by 5 and thats $15, so they are giving you $45 for a GBA. I already have 7 games on their way so that I can trade in my 2 GBA's(probably at differnt times) for $50 store credit(that is also a current deal).

$3.99

This is the only $3.99 game currently availible, but check in the morning and there are more choices such as Salt Lake 2002, ESPN Winter Olympics 2002, and more.

I wouldn't consider this a bad deal at all. If you are the owner of a GBA or GBA SP, then you most likely have a few games that you don't want anymore... so you might as well trade it in and get a DS for $60. However, if you don't have the stuff, its not too great to spend the time buying them used from stores b/c by the time you've done that, you could have been working and getting more money than you saved.
Taken from Ad:
"Take advantage of this great offer, only available until the end of July, and you can get a Pre-Played Nintendo DS for only $59.99. Just go to your local EB Games store and trade in a working Game Boy Advance and five GBA games or a working Game Boy Advance SP and three GBA games and get your DS for this special price."

Sweet.... so I get used hardware for trading in a ton of stuff... plus $60?? EB, you can suck my dick.
I wonder if they would accept cart only games since I cannot find the manuals for many of those GBA games. ^^()
Yes

They should, judging from all those cart-only GBA games they sell. ;)

Gamestop has some $2.99 games, like Iridion and Fire Pro Wrestling, if you need to pad your trade in with some cheap titles. They're OOS online, but since they're so common, most stores have them in stock. Use the zip search.

If you're concerned about the condition of the used DS, well, you'll be right there in the store when you do the trade. Just ask to try it out before you buy it. Plus, don't you get a 90-day replacement warranty (or something like that) on used systems? There really isn't much risk.

All I can say is that I was looking at the used DS systems in my local EB last week and I found them to be in surprisingly good condition. I honestly didn't see anything wrong with them.

It's not a bad deal if you can inspect the DS before leaving the store... I've got 5 GBA games laying around I'll probably never play again so it's like $80 for a used DS... not bad.

Call the district manager; he might be able to arrange it for you.

I can't believe people are complaining that this deal sucks.

Basically: GBA SP + 3 games = $90 towards a DS. Any 3 games. Hell I've got classic castlevania laying around here, I'm sure you folks that have had SPs for longer have some cheapass games laying around.

And GBA + any 5 games = $90 towards a DS. A fucking standard GBA is like $20 these days. If you've got one laying around plus a few cheapass games, that's an awfully good deal.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

That would be true if it was a NEW DS you were getting. This deal's for a Preplayed, so they're only giving you $60 for said items.
Any GBA game will work?
Good question. I assumed yes, but maybe not. The "Trade in a SP and 3 games for $50 in store credit" deal says "no titles excluded." That deal has been going on for a while, and I assumed this DS deal would be the same way. But now that I look harder at the small print, it does say "some titles excluded." I didn't know that there were POX GBA games, but maybe so.

Its a used DS which is $120, but I think it is still a steal.

Hmmm, guess I forgot how cheap the used DSs are now. Good point. Guess for an SP it's not a great deal. Still, with a standard GBA it's still a good deal IMO, if you have/can find cheapass games.

EBGames is also offering a "GBA plus 5 GBA games for $50" trade-in deal (no exclusion titles) through the end of the month. It may be worth it to get a bunch of cheap GBA games to trade in if you have an extra GBA system or two lying around.

Now I know where my 61.00 credits from gamestop I have are going. Yeah 20.00 gba and 5 games which i already have and then 59.99 awesome!!!

A good deal for some people, I'm sure, but I want to keep my SP for linking to the Cube and I would never buy a used DS because of the touch screen. That's my opinion on the matter.

Seems like a good deal to me. I didn't want to buy a DS until I could get one for $100 or less, to this seems fine.

Why is everyone so afraid of the used touch screen? You can inspect it in the store before you buy, and most used DS systems are there because idiots traded them in for a PSP, not because the screwed up their screens.

I can't decide if this is a great deal or an unbelievable ripoff. I guess it depends if you can get ahold of some cheap GBA games.

In the eyes of a reseller, the measure of a "deal" is whether the item can be resold for a profit. Used DSs barely reach $100 on eBay. If it costs just $80 after trade in and cash, you'll POSSIBLY make $10 after fees. For a few hours work, it isn't worth it.

In the eyes of a consumer, the measure of a "deal" is whether the item can be bought cheaper. I don't think a DS can be bought for less than $80 outside of a yard sale.

In any case, how many more months will it be before Nintendo releases a more advanced handheld console? 3? 6? 12?
Can you trade-in 5 GBA games + GBA = for $90 then pickup USED DS then Return it get your Credit buy NEW DSC ??

Just curious!
you don't get $90 from the trade in - you get to buy a used DS for $60. I'm sure you could return it for whatever you wanted though - they would probqbly give you $120 in store credit which is what I think a used DS goes for...

I just took advantage of this deal..traded in an old crappy GBA and 5 cart only games and snagged a used DS for 60..I threw on a 6 month warranty for an extra 11 bucks. I am pretty happy overall, now I just need to get some games. :D
