Ok i preordered FFXII on 10/1 and they charged my card on 10/20 for the game (I know they sometimes charge 10 or so days before). Anyways I checked my card statement a few days ago and somehow the 10/20 transaction disappeared. Now on the 30th they charged my card again for the 64.64. When I saw that the transaction disappeard, i did all the math and it seemed that they didnt chargeback my card but I had 50 dollars extra in my account. Now if the 50 dollars was from Ebgames.com I would be missing 14.14. Has anything like this happen to anyone before?

I was going to make a new post, but my experience is similiar to yours, that i posted over in the 360 FEAR thread:

After buying FEAR yesterday with my paypal debit card (AKA my play money), I went to make another purchase, and it was declined. Went to paypals site, and saw i had been charged twice, 2 pending charges at GS.

So I go back to the store, and the the manager and another guy was there (who luckily are nice guys) Manager had to take off, and the other guy started calling home office. He got busy though, so I got stuck holding the phone and talking to a rep. They said they would call me back in 24 hours.

This morning there is a 3rd charge. Now a completed, and 2 pending. So far the game has cost me around $190.

To update, after 4-5 days the extra 2 charges simply expired. Never a phone call from GS support, or any contact from the District Manager that I has also requested.

Not that I expected any, but still....

Screw EB / GS at this point, call your credit card company and take it to them.

Oh, wait... they DID expire... I'd still call your CC company anyways just to double check.

I forget what the exact term is, but some companies will place a "hold" if you will on your card. Basically, lets say you want to order something for 60.XX dollars, Some companies will basically put out a fake charge to make sure that you have the funds in the account, but never complete the charge, then they'll make the actual charge once their sure that you have enough funds to cover on your CC/DC. Which sucks on a DC especially if you only have soo much money in the account

Yeah I know about the pending charges, but it sucked for me with 3 charges, on a debit card. Thats real money that hit me with a negative balance. Luckily there was no over draft. Oh well.

When you make a credit card purchase, the merchant puts an authorization for funds hold on your card, be it a credit card or a debit card. This is to make sure that you have enough funds to make the purchase and that they have the funds available for the transaction when it's completed, which normally takes 2-3 days to accomplish.

It's not a fake charge, there is no such thing. This is how the process works for credit card transactions as well as debit card transactions. If they do multiple charges on your account for the same transaction, there will be mutlple authorizations on the card for the amount of purchase, though only one of them will go through and debit the funds from your account. So, if they do two $60 authorizations on your card for a single purchase by mistake, you temporarily have $120 unavailable for use, though you'll only be debited $60 when one transaction goes through and the other authorization falls off.

The merchant can call the bank and have the authorization removed, though only the merchant can do it, not the account holder.

Banks can remove pending charges for you if you can get ahold of someone that works at said company.

It's a bitch, but if you really want to remove the holds on your card you can just walk into the store, get someone to talk to a bank rep for you and all they need to do is provide an approval number (and no, it's not on your receipt.)

Final update. That 24 hours later call never happened. But after the charges have expired of course, 5 days later someone from corporate called my voice mail. They only charged me once, its all my banks fault, second charge is not from them, no mention of the 3rd charge at all, blah blah.

Wow, so 2 weeks later GS district manager called today about my complaint, of trying to pick up a copy medieval 2, and how I was denied, and the employee refused to go to the back and look for it.....?!?

...I was like I bought Fear....

After the explanation, he apologized and said obviously they have problems with the dial up credit machines, and the email system.

Oh well, i payed with cash for DOAX2 :)
