CAGiversary!
The, other day i went to Gamestop to buy Tales of Legendia they tried to sale me a resealed copy which i didn't buy. Now today i go to Ebgames to buy Grandia 3 and guess what they did? Same thing!!! so i ain't sure where to buy games now.

:roll::roll::roll: Not again :roll::roll::roll:

This has been talked about before, will be again in this current thread, and most likely will be talked about again in another thread as well. Gamestop/EB Games gut (take the game out of the case) their games in order to display the game. They only have so many copies and when it gets down to the last one, unfortunately it isn't sealed but it is new. They do it with new and used games but store them in different areas so not to mix them up. What some people call new, others may see differently. It's the same game, it's just they opened it to display it for you. It hasn't been played before, it was just sitting in a sleeve behind the counter until you went up to buy it. The one thing that I can't believe is you have been a member here since 03 and didn't know this.

Best Buy
Wal-Mart
Target
Game Crazy
Game Rush
Fry's
Fred Meyer
FYE
Various internet sources.

Pick one, if a re-seal bugs you so much.

Yup I fucking hate resealed games. Just go to the other retailers like someone else mentioned.

Why EB/Gamestop can't just keep them sealed in the back is beyond me

Wouldn't you be opening the game anyway? Why go through all the trouble to get a sealed copy if you are just going to open it anyway?

Because if you are paying for a new game, you want it to be actually new.

Actually, I once sold them a copy of Godzilla: Save the Earth for Xbox.

Months later, I bought a "new" copy of Godzilla: Save the Earth, from them... only to discover that a note I wrote in the back of the original manual was there.

Thats not too bad, my friend's bought a "new" game only to find out someone had already played it :D

QUESTION: can any of you tell me the address or how to find that one Gamestop feedback site? I've had a fairly nasty experience today.:whistle2:x

SOMEONE PLEASE!

Just make a thread called 'OMG GameStop/EB/Game Crazy sells resealed games!!11' thread! Then have a mod STICKY it. Same discussion, Same Forum, EVERY DAY

I hate the whole resealed game thing, but I also hate that this is the 18000th thread created on this topic within the last 14 minutes.

Clearly this practice pisses people off (as evidenced by all of the threads posted here about it), yet Gamestop/EB apparently doesn't care. It actually pissed me off today at EB when I saw 12 gutted copies of Resident Evil: Dead Silence on the shelf. They were 3 across, 4 deep on the shelf. I mean WTF, the shelf space is already covered?

then dont take the game, tell them you want a sealed copy. not a resealed copy...they get a kick out of it because it seems to go over many customers heads.
Because if you are paying for a new game, you want it to be actually new.
That's such a bunch of BS nitpicking there. The only problem I'd ever have, if I wanted the play the game, was if it were actually used. This detail about it actually being "new" is so insignificant, no matter how ridiculous EB/GS's practices may seem to you.

My issue is that EBGames/Gamstop are so untrustworthy that there's actually a decent chance that they'll swap in a used game and try and sell it to you as new. I found scratches on the back of a gutted game that was "new" and I called them on it ... haven't shopped at that shithole since.

So what exactly is the difference between a used game that trade in to them that I opened and a a "new" game that they opened? Why should I pay a new price for the exact same thing as a used game?
Wouldn't you be opening the game anyway? Why go through all the trouble to get a sealed copy if you are just going to open it anyway?
IMO when I spend my hard earned money on a brand new sealed game, i feel good when i open it. Knowing that no one touched the game or the booklet with their dirty hands. But thats just me.

The ONLY time this ever bothers me is if the "new" game is scratched up. At my regular EB, this doesn't happen. What distinguishes a new game from a used one? A used game has noticable wear, scratches, bent manual, etc. If they're trying to sell you a game that matches that description, yes, complain. Otherwise...who cares?

And again, the 1,028,123,169 time that I know of that this has been discussed...

Remember that we are only a small percentage of the gaming community. Most people have no problem with this practice, otherwise it would be gone by now.

I feel that if it's "new" then I request to look at it. If I really want the game and it's "new", if everything is mint then I shall purchase it. However, no one is forcing you to buy a "new" copy of the game.

On another note: 12 copies of one game? Damn, that's probably their whole stock of RE DS.

But from a collection/pile of games to play stand point, I would rather have the sealed copy sitting on the shelf collecting dust, rather than a new unsealed copy doing the same. So from the collector standpoints, its a legitimate nitpick.

I personally got no problem with the fact that the OP made this thread, but I'm sure everyone can agree a sticky topic on this issue would be a alot more desireable. Otherwise, I agree with your points, Rozz.
If the OP wants to make a thread about this, who cares? Stop making those childish rolling eyes posts saying "This has been posted before!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!". I mean the OP obviously didnt know about this before, otherwise he wouldent be posting this. And if you dont like it, dont post in here. Most of the time I think this is 'Cheap Asshole Gamer'.

Thats not always true. I know of employees who take the 'new' games home. Also, the 'new' games they have in their dusty ass systems in the store are resold as new. 99% of the time I buy games without seals they have scratches, finger-prints, or crap on them. Once I bought Hot Shots Golf 3 from EB and it was a display copy, and it was in so bad condition I wouldent even accept it if it were marked used. True story. There was freakin' traces white sticky stuff on the bottom that looked like gum! (Make cum jokes now).
At what point is this "!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!" going to stop? It's like beating a dead horse even after it is decayed and gone.
It actually pissed me off today at EB when I saw 12 gutted copies of Resident Evil: Dead Silence on the shelf. They were 3 across, 4 deep on the shelf.
Publishers pay for a certain amount of shelf space and it has to stay filled.

is it that hard to ask to see the disc, or refuse to buy it.

no youre right, its really hard, we should just complain on message boards to strangers instead.

the other day, a guy was sad that it was the gutted copy of a psp game. he was nice and expressed his distaste, i said, no problem, 10% off. lots of nice people will give you 10% off if you just ask and are nice about it (theres a specific discount for opened merch) the fact of the matter is, joe gamer doesnt care. only collecters and crazy people get butt hurt (mostly because they cant ask to see the copy or shop somewhere else)
At what point is this "!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!" going to stop? It's like beating a dead horse even after it is decayed and gone.
It will stop at the same time people stop posting threads that EB/GS/GC sells resealed games. Which means in about 10 years when videogames are downloaded directly to the systems and not purchased in stores, or if they stop shrinkwrapping games. Which ever one comes first.
Publishers pay for a certain amount of shelf space and it has to stay filled.
Yeah, but the shelf space is covered with the 3 across. No one is going to see the 9 copies in back of the ones in the front row.

Ya this has happaned to me once or twice recently too.

In the future, simply refer to this template (copy, fill in the brackets, paste):

hay guys, i went to [EB or GS] today and tried to purchase a new copy of [name of the game] for [name of the system]. Guess what they did? can you guess? do u have any idea? they tried to sell me an opened copy! Isn't that totally [racist or sexist]? So i got the DM's number and have notified the [BBB, CIA or FBI] of this great injustice. Boycott [EB or GS]!

only thing is that gs will let their employees borrow the games overnight, and some of the typical gamestop regmonkey's inevitably scratch the game up while they are borrowing it, so it is not new at all.

I have two problems with this. First is, obvious. I payed for a new factory sealed game, I expect a new factory sealed game. The second is, how do I know that Gamestop/EB resealed games aren't actually used games? All I have is their word, which is not good enough.

Even though I am going to open it anyway, it is just the principal behind the whole matter. If it is really a used game, even though they say it is new, I expect to pay a used price (and use my edge card for more discount damnit!).

It kills me that some people find it easier to bitch and moan about threads that get posted from time to time over the same subject etc etc blah blah blah vs NOT CLICKING ON THE GOD DAMN THREAD THAT THEY HATE SEEING.

That's exactly my stance on it.

One time I got a so-called Resealed copy of an xbox game and there were scratches on the back of the disk. ITS NOT fuckING NEW DAMMIT!

"I'm sorry man, that's just how we do it. Don't worry, it hasn't been played."
---eb/gs employee on opened games

Many employees have stated that they take the games home to play. A sleeve isn't scratch proof either.

Why can't they just use the empty cardboard boxes that they get for some games for preorders???

I don't shop there any more because of this.

Same here. Stopped shopping there and would rather buy from someone on here or from ebay.

If I had a nickel for every time this topic has shown up, I'd be a fucking millionaire.

Seriously, if you get a display copy, just see if they'll give a discount or tell them you'll take your business elsewhere. Don't sit there, piss and moan about it.

Honestly, it's getting to the point where it was suggested that we have sticky for this topic. Which I'd have to agree with, that way we'd have new topics concerning different stuff that has EB or Gamestop in the title.

the title of the thread is "gamestop/ebgames" how the hell should we know what its about. personally i like gizmogics idea of the bitching and moaning sticky, because this thread is so tired.

1. some stores let you take home new games, though they arent supposed to. at my store, we can only take used games home.

2. they simply dont have enough boxes to put out for every game. sure it works sometimes. but when you think about how many games there are, how many gamestops and ebs there are, were talking about millions of dollars. why would they do that when they dont have to.

complain all you want, EB/GS is not losing sleep over losing you as a customer. They would continue to make money if everyone who reads this site stopped shopping there, probably even if eveyone that reads this site told 10 people to stop shopping there.

Suck it up and shop somewhere else.
THEN DONT SHOP THERE! that should solve your problem rather quickly.
As I stated, I don't.

They print fake copies of the cover for presales, yet for the actual new game they open it. Know why?

Because you're getting the employee rental. Enjoy.

I hate when GameStop/EBgames trys to give you a resealed game. Even though it seems that EB doesn't do it as much.

Make sure you don't take the reseal copies of the games, then maybe they'll stop doing it.

BASED On A TRUE STORY:

One time I went to GameStop to buy Paper Mario(GC). The guy said there was one "new" copy left. So I said I would take it. First the guy looks for the game under the counter and on the wall behind him. All that he finds is the case for the game. So he says he needs to go to the back room to get it. So I'm just sitting there texting on my phone. A minute or two later he comes out with a gamecube game in a small tiny paper case, when he pulls the game out he sees its not Paper Mario its Mario Sunshine. So now he goes back into the back room, this time he comes back quicker. But still with no Paper Mario. Then one of the other works starts talking to him, it was too far away from me so I don't know what they said. The guy walks right back to me and says he knows where it is, he goes behind me towards the TVs and game systems that you can play, opens the case pulls turns the gamecube off, opens it and pulls out Paper Mario. And I'm watching him the whole time. He comes around the counter puts the disc into the case, puts the clear wrap around it and uses the blow heat thing on it. He says that will be $4X.XX($39.99 NEW without tax) so I ask he why I have to pay full price for a used game. We talk about it for 5 minutes, I wanted to get the used price for it. I told them that I didn't want that copy and I wanted to buy it used but there was no more. I told the guy to **** himself and took off.

And I haven't went back there. F*** GameStop.

And thats not the last time Gamestop tried to rape me in the ass.

BASED On A TRUE Story Part II:

So a few months ago I was shopping on GameStop.com
Being a Cheap Ass Gamer I was looking for the cheapest prices. I searched between half.com, ebay, EBgames, Gamestop, & Gamefly for the cheapest prices on Spider-Man 2 &
Manhunt. With the coupons and free shipping gamestop.com had the best prices. So I bought from them. It took 8 mail days for my items to come. I notice the package was small, I wasn't even too sure that it was from gamestop.com When I open it there are the two games in paper cases and thats is all. Damn I was pissed. But whatever, Spider-Man 2 played fine, but Manhunt was all f***ed up and didn't play, it would freeze at the title screen. Them assh0les f***ed with me again. So I sent it back and it took them a month and a half to refund my money.

So once again I have to say F*** GameStop and F*** GameStop.com
no you didnt

Same here. Stopped shopping there and would rather buy from someone on here or from ebay.
Are you sure?

At my Gamestop they make it sound like an honor that you are getting the last copy. I was there with a friend to get Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks right when it came out and they go "Wow, you are getting the last copy, thats really lucky, but to claim this last copy you have to buy it opened since it was a display copy" and then he starts bragging when we leave about how lucky he was to get the last one
