Update 02/07: While I was picking up some games today the EB cashier asked me if I wanted to renew my Edge card. It's still $5 and the EB clerk said it would be usable at GameStop once the merger completes. The reciept evens shows "GMR Card". So I'm thinking now would be the time to buy.

Today, my friend at EB told me that the Edge card goes up to $14.99 sometime in February. She wasn't sure if it was the first of the month or sometime during -- but it's going up. And becoming the GameStop card. So if you're near that renewal time I suggest getting in there sometime this month.

She wasn't sure if the card could then be used at both stores, but I'd imagine it would. I can't see why not.

[Sorry if this doesn't go in deals -- couldn't think of a better forum...]

Thanks for the heads up, mine expired at the end of dec sounds like nows the time to renew

Aw, crap. Mine is up at the end of February. Not good, not good...I bet there's no likelihood that I can renew ahead of time, is there? The last thing I need is to spend a lot more money for a discount I desire and a magazine I want absolutely nothing to do with.

Hmmm...what if mine doesn't expire for a while? Can I 'extend' it's use by renewing now? (Or, should I just grab a new card? I don't have any trade-in credit on my card.)

Just grab a new one, they don't ask for personal information.

why would you want to renew now if you can use them at both stores

renew now for 10 bucks your going to have to spend 15 to get the gamestop card.... i would rather pay 15 for one card and use at two stores

Or will EB's simply become useable at GS ?

you're not going to be able to use the eb edge card at gamestop. Gamestop is rolling out it's own Edge card as the GS POS is converted over to the EB POS, the EB Edge card will simply not work on the new GS POSs.

this was talked about at the managers con.

I have no idea. You'd have to ask them.

In my area there are 5 EBs to 2 GameStops, and those GameStops are kinda far, so I hardly ever go to them. Their card is a waste for me. But you make a good point.

Since it can be used at both, I guess I'll finally get a GS card again (haven't had one since they raised the price to $15). But, I just looked and my EB card doesn't expire untill August.

I assume you meant "can't" instead of "can?"

Posts like this are hard to read.

I'm torn, I already have the current Gamestop card(expires next October, I think) but I was going to buy an EDGE card to use on EBGames.com. It seems redundant to buy one if they're planning on changing over to a new Gamestop card, but who knows if that'll work online. Gah. :bomb:

That is the fun part about is that they stated a while ago that they were going to do this but no one knows if the Gamestop Card will be able to be used online at Ebgames.com because I actually have both and my Edge Card doesn't end until July.

I have no need to have it work at Gamestop, as I don't shop their B&M stores (none around here) and I don't order from them online. So, I'd rather save the $5.

hm..do you know what happens to any credit you have on the edge card? I still got some on there, and I hope it doesn't disappear.

I doubt it. If the credit does disappear, I think you can probably get them into some trouble since the credit on the EDGE card works like a gift card.

Mine doesn't expire until June. Should I even bother renewing?

how much is it now anyway? thought it was $5? is that right? if yes.. i'll pick it up since they can be used in conjunction with CAG15 and Saver right?

I believe you'll still be able to use the credit at a EB or ebworld.com, just not at gamestop, and it wouldn't work as a edge card anymore, just hold your last bit of credit till you use it.

i have a ton of friends who trade in their new release games for 12-13 bucks off the hot 49.99 game at eb or gs...never understood this as you can just pay the same amount and keep your older game by going to fry's pming their ads.

My Edge expires in July, More card is done in October. I'm cautiously optimistic that they will have this crap worked out by summer so I don't have to even consider renewing my Edge.

Yes and Yes .. $5 plus you get 10% off online or in store on used games.

with the GS card you get discount on NEW game purchases I think ??

get the newer EB Card with the PIN number on the back and you can use any credit you have on trade ins on line at ebgames.com as well as the B&M store.

The new card can give 10% of new games? That could come handy.
So this new card will work on ebgames.com and gamestop.com? Could be interesting.
$15 is a bit pricey though for the discounts. It means I'll have to spend over $150 a year on used games to make it worthwhile and what not.

I have ended up forgetting the card a lot of the times and have resigned up a couple times. For some reason, im not sure if this is how it is supposed to work, instead of just renewing my original card and lengthening it they got me signed up for more than 1. I now get 5 magazines every month. This is definitely good when they have the buy 2 get 1 free coupons.

When the merger is finished, there are going to be a lot of familiar things that all of you Edge Card users have. From the looks of it, GS is going to actually continue with the Edge card. They will probably just replace any of the old cards with the new Edge card when all stores are converted to the new POS which is based off of EB's POS :applause::applause:. GS is going to finally have a high speed internet connection so they will be able to look at availability of items in other stores in the district like EB. Any credit that you have at EB will still be valid and when you trade in more, it will still be attached to your card. Any reservation credit will be stored in the computer as well. This leads to no more reservation boxes where the credits can be lost:bouncy:

Overall, this change is for the better at GS and will benefit us all in terms of the POS. I don't know about the deals, but hopefully they will be better than what GS is always offering.

So should I renew my Edge card now? Is it still $5...or should I wait for it to go to $15 so I can use the card at EB and GS?

Someone didn't read the new posts. ;)

GameStop is going to be using the Edge Card.

So I should renew now...for $5 that's all I want anyways...I never used my GS card much, but I still got one because I seemed to find rare games at my GS more often than at EB...go figure...

lol, there is so much confusion and so little reading going on in this entire thread....

and none of it based on totally concrete facts! =P

I was only teasing you, but it sounds like there's no rush to renew because the the Edge card (at its current price) will be used.

Well, I've heard two things. So who really knows. But either way, I thought it was worth discussing. :D

Is the Edge Card still $5.00? I am considering buying one of these bad boys today but only if the card is still $5.00.
