I went to South Gate Rogers Plus in Edmonton today, and they are closing out with tonnes of good sales. Same deals on as in the Winnipeg thread from a while ago. All used DVD's and Blu Rays are Buy One Get Two Free, and all new merchandise (games, DVD's, Blu Ray) are 50% off. Used games are all 2/$25, but they're pretty picked over already.

I got a sweet haul of used Blu Rays, so I'm stoked. I'll put my list... just to brag a little.

Batman Begins, Bolt, Dark Knight, Disney Earth, G Force, Hellboy 2, I Am Legend, Matrix, Paprika, Pirates 3, Ratatuille, Speed Racer, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Unforgiven, and Wall-E.

I wasn't trying to clear house... but I couldn't really pass up Blu Rays at that price.

Should get going soon though... it was pretty busy in there.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm close to Southgate so I'll check it out tomorrow afternoon perhaps.

Came here to post this. Stopped in this afternoon (would have posted earlier, but can't post from work), and it was a mad house. Didn't spot any obvious hoarding--people passing up multiple copies of AAA titles and only taking one. I guess because it hadn't hit RFD...

Game selection is picked over. As of 1pm the only 1st party PV Wii titles left were Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and that wario shake it game. The rest was shovelware. Oh sorry--and about 12 copies of wii music, which might as well be shovelware...

PS3 and Xbox had some decent titles, though older ones at that. Certainly worth $12.50 in some cases.

Don't despair though, as a large number of AAA titles were still out for rent, so when they come back they should be available. Games like FFXIII, Splinter Cell Conviction, MAG, GOWIII etc. Most were out for rent.

Assuming the people who rented them aren't morons who think that the store closing means they don't have to bring the games back, there should be a "restock" of sorts over the next few days.

Girls there told me they'll be getting in a refresh of blu-rays and dvds (probably whatever didn't sell in Winnipeg), but that the games would not.

There was 1 PV'd Heavy Rain out for rent, but I decided not to chance it and picked up the last new copy (50% off). Same with Monster Hunter Tri.

Wiimotes are a great deal at half off. If you don't have the instruments yet, the beatles rock band is a good savings--plenty of those left.

I was told the consoles were not on sale--nor the iphones. Candy is buy one, get two free--with the exclusion of chips for some reason.

If you head on down there try to be extra sweet to the staff. The majority are really nice and very helpful. They're looking at losing their jobs, and have probably had to put up with an insane number of ass-hats today. The people that crawl out of the woodwork for these things...I wish I had a camera on me...
I should go by tomorrow and see what they have. How was the selection on new games?
Not bad, but the newest games were typically priced at $69.
Isn't the Metroid Prime Trilogy getting to be quite rare, now? I believe its been discontinued by Nintendo.
As far as I'm aware, yes it is becoming rare. For $12 I almost picked it up, but ultimately left it for another CAG (hopefully) as I already own it.

Collector, you are my new bff.

Phoned and got a copy of Final Fantasy XIII on hold, new, for $35. Now that is a deal.

Much love to my Edmonton CAG's, I owe you guys one :D

Went there today at 3pm. Picked up the stuff in the pic for a total of $112. Also saw, amongst many, these notable titles (note I didn't look at Wii games):

New
-Assassin's Creed II, 360, 69.99 retail, several available
-Resident Evil 5, 360, 39.99 retail
-Final Fantasy XIII, 360, 69.99 retail x1
-Madden 10, PS3 I think it was, 69.99 retail
-Batman: Arkham Asylum, 360, 49.99 retail
-Pokemon Diamond, Crystal(is that what it's called?), 39.99 retail
-Valkyrie Profile, DS, 24.99 retail x1
-Batman: Dark Knight Blu-Ray, 21.99 retail x1
-Evangelion 1.01 "You are not alone", used I think, part of B1G2
-think I saw GTA4 for 360 in there too...

Used
-Mirror's Edge, 360 and PS3, part of 2 for 25
-Lots of 'The Hangover', 9.99, among many others

And
-Buy 1 get 2 free on previously viewed movies

Thanks again big time for the Edmontonians who gave me a hand to produce a good score. I overheard wind of another Rogers location closing in Edmonton in the immediate future, not sure if that's concurrently going on or coming up soon but it might be worth investigating. Best of luck to anyone heading there today. And I will reiterate one key thing:

Amen.

My "haul" here.

I know that the Beaumaris location is also closing at the end of the month, and that's probably the one you heard about. I'd give it a look, but I'm just not wanting to go out in this weather right now. At least it's stopped snowing now...

Thanks for posting this!

Headed there today and picked up 6 games. Got the following for $78:

Beatles Rockband - 360
White Knight Chronicles - PS3
Overlord 2 - 360
Need for Speed Shift - 360
Reflex MX vs ATV - PS3
Dark Void - 360

There's still a fair number of decent games available (Assassin's Creed 2, MUA2, Need for Speed Shift) and tons of new games for maximum $35. Saw copies of FFXIII, Splinter Cell Conviction, MAG, etc.

I will agree about the staff. Super helpful and actually went out of their way to see if they had all the games they had returned out on the shelf. Glad to get the deals but sad to see people out of work because of the closure.

If my wife wasn't giving birth to our first child tomorrow morning (scheduled C-section) I'd be all over this deal. Been looking for a good deal on MAG! Oh well, I guess being there is slightly more important. ;)

Thanks to the OP for the heads up, I'll have to keep an eye out for the next closure looming. Makes me think we're starting to see the beginning of the end with some of these rental companies. Digital distribution is definitely going to gain grounds in the coming decade.

Drop us a line when you hear more about when its closing. I would normally never be in that part of town. Hell, I didn't know there was a Rogers there to begin with! If I could snag a pair of RE:5s on PS3 I'd be set.

Oh I also forgot to mention that you can still use your Star Rewards card on these purchases. Got myself 12 points today.

I might actually swing by later this week to look through their DVDs. I'm not huge on Blurays but I wouldn't mind grabbing a few movies while they're cheap.
Nice. Though you should have grabbed two more coke zeros. ;)
I opted for two massive bags of Nibs instead XD

Looks like they put out some more used games today. Picked up Modern Warfare 2 and Dirt 2 for $25. Take a spin around there. There was still some pretty good games on the shelves.
I got brutal legends and ghost busters.
Too bad that the new games are not on sale.
New movies/games aren't 50% off?

I'm hoping to go check it out on Friday.
Hopefully there'll still be stuff left :D
I'm just looking for movies anyway :p still have a backlog of games to play
All new games are 50% off. At least that's what they were going for two days ago.
Thanks for the info :D yup still the same, new games are 50% off.

Just got back from there, didn't buy anything.

Not much left to choose from.
Killzone 2 is still left for the 2/$25 games.
Other PS3 games left that I remember - HAWX, G Force, Harry Potter [don't remember which one]

Unfortunately, I only saw older blu rays left, nothing I wanted to get - newest thing I guess would be New Moon, others left included Animatrix, The Box, Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 [$17 per disc, so basically $17 if season 1 is 3 discs], The Eye, Paul Blart Mall Cop, See No Evil... that's all I can remember at the moment.

The clerk was packing away blu rays as well, to send to other stores.
So I'm guessing they're done selling the newer stuff.

thanks guys for posting got about 20 blu-rays the other day none really new ones but lots i havent seen and for under $6 a pop mise well since it would cost me about the same to rent...

got a few new ps3 games too so worth the trip for me but sad to see a store go even though i got 2-3 closer to me...

store has been picked pretty clean was there yesturday still a few decent 360 titles but for movies and wii/ps3 games not really anything worthwhile left.

Yeah, she was picked clean by the time I got there, really. Nothing really striking me on the 360/PS3 or Wii sides..same with blu rays.

I was told that 3 splinter cell convictions came in last night--Apparently I snagged the last one. Had to pair it with Killzone 2 which I've already beaten and traded in once before, but was probably the best of what was left. It is really, really wiped out. Just waiting on rental returns now...

If there's an Edmonton CAG who wants Killzone 2 at cost, PM me or it's going to Future Shop on Sunday. :)

Apparently Southgate Rogers Plus is not the only Edmonton location that will be closing according to the staff at the Southgate location. Other store locations will be closing in the future, I don't know when or where. All Rogers stores are closing due to low sales of Rogers phone at Roger Plus location and high leasing cost. So people keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks OP for posting this. I stopped by a few times this week and picked up a number of blu-rays. Most of the good games are gone though, as everyone else said. According to the employees the store should be open until the 24th.

Fyi, I stopped by the Beaumaris location this afternoon, and the closing out sale's been on for a while now. The store's been picked pretty dry. There's tons of DVDs left over for anyone interested, but very little blu-rays (it looks like the same as Southgate's selection). Most of the used games left are in generic rental cases and missing their original cases.

Some notables games at Beaumaris that I remember (all used and in rental cases unless noted): Gears of War 2 360, Guitar Hero Metallica 360, Mega Man Starforce (I forgot which one) DS, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops PSP, Star Ocean First Departure PSP, Guitar Hero 5 Wii, Professor Layton 1 DS NEW

Thanks for the info. Looks like I won't be snagging RE:5.

I was in the area and stopped in yesterday, today was their last day open. It's sad but I think it's inevitable that rental stores are going to be gone eventually. Netflix and Gamefly type services are the wave of the future. Well that and digital distribution of course.

Apparently the Heritage store is closing as well, last day open May 31st. Not sure when they started their closing sale but if anyone is in the area it might be worth a look. Make sure to post back and let us know how it goes. If there is anything left I might stop by after work tomorrow.

That store is crazy out of the way for me, so I rely on calling them. They claimed they are closing June 24th. May 31st seems early...I have a friend who stopped in on Friday and there was nothing on sale yet. Weird.

That's so sad... I work nearby so I can drop in and check this week... I missed a lot of the sales at the Southgate location so hopefully this will make up for it.

Strange, just going by what I heard.

Edit: Just called in. Their last regular day open is May 31st so that must have been what the rep was referring to. The first day of their fire sale is Tuesday June 1st.

*Scratches head* I was talking to a rep there last week and she was saying last day of rentals was MAy 30th and everything going on sale on the 31st...I drive by there every day on my delivery routes, so I'll take a swing by and see what's going on next week.

Pretty much. lol. *crosses fingers for RDR and Heavy Rain..knows he has no hope, but..Ah well. lol*

Seems like it's starting but I only saw signs for buy 1 previously viewed movie and get 1 free (value of 9.99 i think).. I didn't have time today to go in and ask about the games.. Will try that tomorrow.

Keep us posted! I am still interested in Fifa 10 PS3 and maybe a Pokemon game...

No, it should be starting Monday or Tuesday, but I believe it's Monday. The Buy One Get One $9.99 or less free was a deal on last week at all stores, but it has now ended. If they still have it on there it might be a pre-close-out sale or something, but I do know that sale was on at all stores last week (for the long weekend).

Went in yesterday and the girl at the front told me the real closing sale starts on June 1. The DVD sale seems to be the only one on right now

Yup--I've heard June 1st as well.

Fair warning--if I see anyone holding multiple copies of games and there are none left for everyone else--i am knocking them to the ground to let people frantically collect them like candy from a broken pinata.

You will never see it coming, I promise you. ;)

If you're in the store when I am, just hang around the guy holding 12 copies. Bend down to "tie your shoe" and I'll make sure you get one. ;) Just shield your face because I can't really predict where they'll land when I smack them out of his/her hands.

But seriously, I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Can anyone tell me the location of this rogers? I'm interested (Since I don't think its the southgate one now?). I wonder if they'll have any sweet deals there.

51 Ave. Heading south on Calgary Trail, take a right on 51 Ave, it comes up shortly after that on your left side. Heading south on 111st, take a left by Southgate (51ave), travel up the road and it's a little past London Drugs on your right. I could get you an address but I'm lazy to look.

If anyone sees Fifa 10 for under 30 bucks and is willing to give me a text or a BBM, message me and I'll give you my contact info. I'd be grateful! I have class all through Tuesday the 1st :(
