Been looking for this game for a few weeks, I'm trying not spend more then 60$ shipped (not ebay).

I happened to come across play-asia.com and was wonder if there is any difference between the US and JP version besides language.

Also, are there any other games like this that you would recommend?

The only difference is language. Also, the JP version of Electroplankton came in special packaging. I'm not sure if that is still true, but if it is, you'll get shiny boxing along with free decent headphones.

Does language in that game make much of a difference besides menu screens? Just curious because I cant read japanese... yet.
You can sometimes find it at EB/Gamestop. Try making some calls to them?
Tried all the GS/EB near me and they dont know what it is or dont have it.

I don't have a problem with the language. There is very little of it, so it shouldn't get in your way at all.

The one problem I did have was not knowing what I could do. The JP game came with a huge instruction booklet... that I could not read. So I had to spend a lot of time just figuring out what I could do or how to interact with them. I found that kind of fun though, so it may not be a big problem. I'm sure there are FAQs and guides available online too.

Sweet. Thanks for the response.

I asked an employee at GS yesterday if they had this game and he said "oh what a fun game, but it gets boring fairly quickly." WHAT!? Which is it, fun or boring? What an idiot. Just answer my question damn it.

Well to be honest it's both. It really depends on the type of gamer you are too. If you are looking for objectives and goals, you'll be completely lost here and probably won't find much interest in Electroplankton. On the other hand, if you like to get creative and mess around with stuff until the sun goes down, then you'll probably love it.

I got it when it came out, and I play it on and off. It always manages to amuse me.

The manual doesn't say too much that's important. You still might want to check the local store avalibility at the EB/GS website.

Beyond that, there are a few games you'd probably like. Do not buy any of the Naruto DS games because they are pretty wretched almost universally. If you do, Naruto 3 aka Ninja Council 3 is better then 4. I haven't played the new 3D game, but I've heard meh things about it.

If you're looking for some filler, Phoenix Wright 2 has the English language included in the Japanese version. That's a bit of an eh suggestion though because I hope Phoenix Wright 2 sells respectable numbers to make sure 3 gets remade for the DS and we get 4 some time next year. Winning Eleven DS is a pretty safe game to import too beyond menus that we probably won't see here. If you're looking for something neat and a little different, Eyeshield 21 Max Devil Power is Madden meets Feel the Magic. I haven't played it yet, but I recently imported it if putting your money where your mouth is means anything.

And yes, Electroplankton is a fun game that you either will get a lot of play out or a little. Here's a question. Remember Mario Paint's music maker. How much time did you spend playing that? How about a game like Pokemon Channel? You really should try playing it first before purchasing it. I've enjoyed it, but I haven't $35 enjoyed it.

thanks for the info, hack. I still need to find this game besides on ebay.

The import version is worth it alone for the manual art all done by Toshio Iwai, the master game artists himself. I love my import copy and say it's beutiful even when I'm not playing it (ie, the box design).

I wrote a letter to Nintendo pretty much begging them to let me buy one from them. They replied with the usual, "Unfortunately the game is no longer in print, blah blah."

I got it for 20 shipped months ago from overstock...its hard to find now? Thank fricking god...because I only picked it up at that price thinking it could be a nice collector's item down the road...havent played it in ages...more because of how many awesome games there are I have yet to finish.

Shit. If you're willing to spend $60 go for the JP version. You get the big box, the headphones and the extra nice packaging. I got it(US Version) on release day direct from Nintendo and was disappointed with it compared to the JP version. The manual isn't exactly necessary to figure out what's going on and if you're really desperate there's always GameFAQs. Don't blow that much cash on the US version for sure.

I know you wrote that you ordered the Japanese version, but if you still want the US version, you might try calling these stores, or stopping by.

I had no idea that this game was hard to find. I'll have to take a walk over to the Nintendo World store after lunch and see if they have any copies.

That was the first spot I checked a few weeks back. They said they were sold out for months.

Dont even know how you found that, I wasnt able to search "Electroplankton" on EBgames.com or Gamestop.com just show they didnt have it on their website. I even tried a direct link someone else posted and it just brought me to their main page.

Top 2 stores have it, but it's just the game. I was trying to look for a complete/mint game anyway. Thanks though.

I pretty much got new/sealed JP copy for ~33 (48 - 15) from play-asia.com and I wanted to order Bleach DS too.

Bleach DS is a great fighter for the DS. The best one available currently. Online play too.
