Well, the preorder GoW/Viva Pinata deal has been reborn as this:

Cheap Ass Gamer Link

And here are the games that are specifically linked to the deal:

NFL '07
Oblivion
Lego Star Wars II
Dead Rising

Edit: And yes, despite the wording on amazon, it is only limited to those games listed (NHL 2K7 is on sale this week for $50 but doesn't qualify).
Keep in mind that I'm just posting this for informational purposes only. It goes without saying that you may or may not want the games
offerred there--but all of them are really pretty good, particularly Oblivion, and Dead Rising. In any case, it's hard to argue with "free".

I still like the TRU deal w/Live Sub and Arcade disk better (yeah, even more than the original GoW pre-order one), but there you go.

I think it's only for Madden, Oblivion and Legos Star Wars II. Kind of disappointing that they replaced the Gears of War offer with this. While those games are priced $50 on Amazon, I don't think they are really *worth* that, whereas GoW would have been selling for $50-60 for probably a long time.
i am going to hold out for a $150 system(premium/new)
you are most likely going to miss this generation then. xbox 1 took a long time to get that low, i'm not even sure it did make it down to $150, i think it was $179, so maybe when xbox1080 is coming out you'll get one.

I think it makes much more sense to do this than GoW/Viva.

Just imagine the shit storm that Amazon would be in when they run out of Gears for all of the preorders and freebies. Not good.

I bought my XBox1 for $150 about a year ago, new at Best Buy.

I have a feeling MS is cooking up a really good bundle to take some of thunder out of Nintendo's and Sony's system launches this holiday season. So I'm going to have to pass on this. Not to mention because I hear that some 360's are still having reliability issues I plan to purchase mine at Costco because of their return policy.
Sad. These games suck.
Huh?

Oblivion: 94% @ Gamerankings
Lego Star Wars: 82% @ Gamerankings
Madden: 81.5% @ Gamerankings

Obviously your opinion is what sucks.

Madden's rehashed trash, Lego Star Wars is for dweebs or pre-teens, and Oblivion is just another broken, horribly imbalanced Bethesda RPG without the community mods you could get on the PC version.

um no. I got my Xbox and gamecube (with a free game) at $150 that was before the release of Zelda wind waker and Halo 2.

That's one of the stupidest posts I've ever read. The only thing I see that makes any sense in that post is the Madden part.

Eh? The entire gameworld in Oblivon scales with you as you level, til eventually every common bandit has full Daedric or Glass armor, artifact-level weapons, and more gold and miscellaneous magical items than most cities in the game. That's about as broken as broken gets, imo. The game's still worth it just to play through the Dark Brotherhood quests, which, I have to hand it to Bethesda, is one of the better depictions of an evil campaign in an RPG. A shame the rest of the game isn't at that level of quality -- especially the utterly tedious, vapid gate-closing nonsense of the main quest.

As for Lego Star Wars, meh. Not worth $50 by any stretch of the imagination.

lord_ebonstone has a point. Nothing like a rat that can destroy you when your at "uber-levels." Oblivion HAD to do it though. Unlike FF games where they control what dungeons you visit first, in Oblivion, it is so open-ended that they don't want you to get creamed as a "Level 1" character if by mistake, you visit a "Level 99" dungeon. Since you can choose whichever dungeons you want to visit, they make the dungeons level up with you.

We're way off topic now, but...

Why not do it the "Final Fantasy" way? It would have made more sense. Dungeons and monsters near cities would be much less dangerous than dungeons and monsters out in the middle of nowhere. That way things could stay, you know, consistent. To start the game, clear a nearby dungeon for some leather armor, and come back 20 levels later to find pretty much the same enemies you once killed, except now decked out in full Glass/Daedric, is just silly and immersion-breaking.

I'll endup get XBOX 360 next year & hope i can get $300 for PRemium version. Alot good games coming out next year & it's perfect to pickup backlog games around $20 or less a piece ;)

you can get the premium for around $330 or so. i dont think the $30 savings is all that much to wait an extra 3/4 months

Uh, where?

EDIT: Is Amazon running any free shipping deals right now? And do they charge tax?
Amen on killing that GoW deal. I'll wait for a cooler more powerful 360 in Jan 2007.
Are you sure it's January 07 or 1st quarter 2007 for that matter? Because if the new processor is due out that soon, I'll wait. There will be so many more games to choose from besides Gears of War. No other games would warrant my purchase, not even if it was free with system purchase.

Sorry, but it must be said: Oblivion is like one of those movies that people always tell me "It's good", but I just reply "Oh really?" and continue on with life.

Where the hell is all this crazy information coming from? You can get a 360 premium for 330 bucks supposedly, but the OP of that comment never cared to return and back that up...

And now some of you are talking about an updated 360 with better cooling and a new proc? I can't find any articles about this.

Anyways I wouldn't mind snagging one of these with Dead Rising.
They added Dead Rising to the list of choices, but the discount doesn't work if you click through to checkout.
I went through with it anyways, and they did charge me the 50 bucks. I sent an email, I assume they'll take care of it.
Dead rising has been added to this promotion...updated OP.
Dead Rising does not show up with a discount when you proceed to checkout, the other three do.

Man...WTF is Amazon doing!?!?!

I'll take this off the front page for the time being...

EDIT: I've attempted to contact Amazon to see if they can fix this. It's very unlike Amazon to have these kinds of errors...not sure what is happening over there.

It's still a good deal, but amazon is jerkin' us around just a little.

I am tempted to get it wit Oblivion. If they had it with Dead Rising I may not resist. Must... kill... zombies...

I did the deal with Dead Rising. I had to pay full price, but they refunded my 50 dollars without a fight after I called and complained.

I just got my 360/Dead Rising deal, but yes, I had to call to straighten it out. Unfortunately, the first customer service person was someone outsourced who didn't have the proactive balls to override the non-discount issue. I called again and I got some woman with an American accent who had no problem straightening things out. We also got into a tangent about how troubling it is that this issue is still present in spite of how long this offer's been around, and she said she'll try to take extra steps to make sure this is fixed for future orders.

I may end of giving this a try, then. Free shipping and no tax = a lot of money saved for me. I'll just get the MS warranty, then I'll get Gears of War when it comes out! ****ing sweet, man!

Yeah, just be sure to have patience for customer service. In both instances, I actually had to walk them through to get to the actual offer page (starting from the Amazon home page).

how do you get to it from the home page? I always just use the cheap ass gamer link.

It may help me when I order later this week!

Edit- nevermind, found it.

Dangit, Cheapy! Just as I was resigned to not spending that money. Jeez. Now I think I may have to buy the dang thing.

;)

Sign up for the Amazon Visa and get another $30 off...Pretty darn good deal...Xbox premium w/Madden 07 for $369!!!

I'm like very close to doing it...

Done, I did it...Bit the bullet....again

Premium 360
Extra Wireless Controller
Madden 07

Total: $409 0% interest for 6 months

I jumped too. $370 after the credit card, didn't get the extra controller. I opted for Oblivion (one of the main reasons I wanted the system).

I'm saving it for an early Christmas gift for myself. Might test it out, then back in the box.

I tried doing this, and signed up for the visa. The $30 discount didn't appear on the order though. Does it come later or something?

edit: whoops, I see that the $30 discount comes a few days later apparently...

when did you guys get it?

I got a confirmation that it shipped from Amazon...It will arrive at my house on Monday...I ordered it on Wednesday...So that's pretty good for the free shipping without the hassle of signing up for Amazon prime...The $30 will be subtracted off of the total on your first billing statement for the Amazon Visa card.

Don't be suprised if it gets there sooner (like tomorrow). I often get things sooner than Amazon's expected arrival date.

Hmmm, this is odd, my system hasn't shipped yet. It said it was available, I got my game in the mail yesterday, but the item has yet to ship.

Not that it's the biggest deal, but is anyone else stuck in the delay?
