Since I don't get Game Informer anymore, I had to look it up. What he was trying to do is defend the camera problem, which to be honest was a pretty lame defense when most 3D platformers get it right. Fact is, you expect to be able to move the camera whenever you want
For me the camera is still about the least of it's problems, though yeah...think how AMAZING the A.I. camera is in Super Mario Galaxy! Part of why that game works so well (without just supporting the classic controller) is they actually, unbelievably, but a fantastic camera. (Ugh...I could compare every single aspect of these two games and rag on Epic Mickey :lol
Maybe I should have been a little more specific: it is the Mickey Mouse fans who should be the most happy. Given that the title is "Epic Mickey", that should be expected.
Yeah, maybe I just don't know enough (remember enough?) Mickey stuff...which makes me vaugely disapointed with myself
It is a dark, twisted version of the Magic Kingdom. If you didn't like that, well, the game must not have been for you. But, it was no grand secret that it was going to be anything but.
Well I've never been to Disney Land, and don't like setting games at theme parks (because to me theme parks are sort of trying to accomplish the same thing games can actually do-transport you somewhere else...so transporting you to a theme park just...comes across as WEIRD and unpleasant to me whenever it happens).
Regarding it not being a secret, probably not, but I avoided 99% of coverage on this, since I was going to buy it.
A common flaw of many games, not exactly unique to Epic Mickey. Not really an issue for me.
Yeah, but to me it REALLY stands out here because of how the game is designed, and also who it's by. It's all this "choice" stuff, and then it turns out you spend the time fixing stuff and it doesn't even stay fixed. I can think of all kinds of examples from platformers to RPGs where stuff you do actually "sticks", and to me this feels pretty glaring. It wouldn't be a deal killer for me, but it's just one aspect of many that stands out as poorly done.
No, the hype for this game started over a year ago when Epic Mickey was the cover story on Game Informer and got amped up with Disney's presentation at E3. A lot was expected of this game, but it never quite lived up to the hype.
Deus Ex is easily one of the best games ever made...so that right there makes people give this a shot, only where Deus Ex gets almost everything right, this gets almost everything wrong, and gets things wrong that Deus Ex got right 10 years ago.
IMO it's the biggest disappointment of the year, because it was coming from one of the most celebrated creators of all time, and then...
If this didn't have his name on it, I think even WITH Mickey it would have been largely ignored. Of course without either, even in an underserved genre there are SOOOOO many better choices (like The Munchables! Which has to be one of the most overlooked platformers in years!)
