Essential Games to buy

Ross84

CAGiversary!
I finally bought a gamecube to update my nintendo collection, i got it with donkey konga for £42. This is my first post in the Gamecube section.

Which games would you recommend? My usual game preference would be racing or mario/donkey kong style adventure and maybe a fast first person shooter like goldeneye on the n64. So far the only game i want is double dash.

Thanks.

You have to get RE4. It by far one of the best games of this generation. I would also suggest Metroid Prime 1&2. If you like shooters Ikaruga is a must play as well (It's really hard). That's all that comes to mind right now.

Here's a few that have broad appeal:

Zelda: Wind Waker
Metroid Prime 1&2
Super Mario Sunshine
Pikmin 2 (one is good, but 2 completely outclasses it)
Resident Evil 4 (assuming, of course, you didn't already have a PS2 & bought it for that)

And here's a few there are more mixed opinions on, but that I wouldn't be without:

Gotcha Force
Billy Hatcher
Kirby's Air Ride
P.N.03
PSO Ep. I&II
PSO Ep. III: C.A.R.D.

Fast FPS : Time Splitters Future Perfect, MOH - European Assault, 007 Nightfire

Adventure FPS : Metroid I & II, Metal Arms glitch in the system

Other do not miss games :

Super Smash Bros.
Lego Star Wars
DK Jungle Beat - for the bongos
Disney extreme Skate adventure (it's tony hawk w/ disney chars, great fun)
Wario Ware
Hot Wheels World Race

If you like repetitive, tedious games that emulate a boring day job get Pikmin.

NO WAI! Pikmin and Pikmin 2 are awesome games, as well as Animal Crossing. Sure, they are all pretty good day job sims, but are way too good to pass up. Anyway, I'd say Pikmin 1 & 2 are more slave driving sims than day job sims.

Thanks, ive had a look for a few of those and they seem like excellent games, whats the sonic heroes game like as its cheap on play.com. I used to love sonic back in the day the games seem to have gone downhill a little lately.

From what I've played, I highly recommend Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario 2, Super Monkey Ball 2, Timesplitters 2/3, F-Zero GX, Burnout 2 (if you can find it), and the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for singleplayer. As for multiplayer, I like Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Mario Kart: Double Dash, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Burnout 2: Point of Impact.

But seriously, if you liked Goldeneye, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you check out the Timesplitters series. They are tons of fun.

I'll give you a nice, easy to read list:

Alien Hominid
Animal Crossing
Baten Kaitos
Battalion Wars
Eternal Darkness
F-Zero GX
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Ikaruga
Killer 7
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Pikmin 2
Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 4
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Tales of Symphonia
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2

I just went with the ones that are exclusive, or superior on the Cube.

What the hell is wrong with you people? The guy said he likes racing games and adventure games. Why are you all listing games that are not racing games and adventure games?

Here are some good racing games and adventure games Ross84:
-FZero GX
-Luigi's Mansion
-Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (don't get Wind Waker)
-Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
-Super Mario Sunshine
-Wario World (not Warioware)
-Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

Now, here are some other games that are not racing or adventure, but which I believe would appeal to someone that likes racing and adventure games:
-Doshin the Giant
-Super Moneky Ball (1 or 2)

Don't listen to Chuck, Wind Waker is a little easy, but still amazing. I'd also like to reinforce RE4 and F-Zero GX. Also, if you can find it, Geist is totally worth $10.

If you haven't gotten it on another system, Prince of Persia 3 the 2 thrones, was awesome, Batman Begins for 10 dollars was simple 10 hour fun, Now Playing Zelda Windwalker, RE4 looks good haven't really played yet got backlog of games aftet CC/TRU clearances. That Ikurga shoot em up really looks good looking for a copy myself. Waiting to get a cheap copy of need for speed most wanted, what I played on computer was fun. Incredible Hulk ultimate destruction was also fun haven't finished yet.

1. POP:T2t
2. Batman Begins (only apx 10 hour gameplay)
3. Zelda windwalker
4. RE4
5. Hulk Ultimate Desctruction

Got my Auto Modellista on order used. Cell Shaded based racer, got medicore reviews but looks like simple arcade unique raceing fun.

Good racing game - Mario Kart : Double Dash (maybe F-Zero GX)
Good adventure game - Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario : Thousand Year Door
Good 1st person shooter - Metroid Prime

I like it quite a bit, despite some glaring problems (camera is totally bonkers, voices grate). It's fun though, in a chaotic sort of way.

Bonus...it was released for the PC, so you could download the demo; decide for yourself.

Thanks for all your advice, so far ive bought

Sonic Heroes
Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorow
fifa 2003
donkey konga

(all cheap)

mario kart double dash
luigis mansion
super mario sunshine
super monkey ball

il buy some more from the list when they turn up at the right price :)

Actually the original VJ is better on the PS2 because you can unlock Dante from Devil May Cry. Also, if you're not very good at games, the PS2 had a new difficulty level that made it easier. Also, RE4 is better on PS2 because of the extra features, and I heard its nearly the same game as GC-graphics wise. Otherwise, good list!

I'd also have to reccomend Animal Crossing. Super Smash Bros. Melee seems decent, but I haven tried it on multiplayer yet, and thats probably the best part of the game (I know it was in the original!). Bomberman Jetters is also sweet - definitely buy that if you can find a copy.
And if you like racing and action, then definitely consider buying Smuggler's Run Warzones, which can be found for less than nine bucks.

sorry FrankySox! Point taken, i post on a car forum and it irritates me seeing the same questions but otherwise the forums would be very quiet.

How can you not recommend Wind Waker yet recommend Wario World? I wouldn't wish Wario World on anyone. It might be the worst game I've ever played. It is boring, repetitive and has no redeeming qualities. God I'm getting angry just typing about it. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16724&highlight=wario+world

Ya... Wario World was worth the $2.50 I paid for it, but really what game isn't worth that? Anyway, don't waste your money. The game is way too short, too easy and like this topic, too repetitive.
