CAGiversary!

Features

On his deathbed, the famous composer Chopin drifts between this life and the next. In his final hours, he experiences a fantastical dream where he encounters a young girl facing a terrible destiny and the boy who will fight to save her. On the border between dreams and reality, Chopin discovers the light that shines in all of us in this enduring tale of good and evil, love and betrayal.
Developed by Tri-Crescendo and featuring the music of Chopin, Eternal Sonata™ delivers amazingly detailed 3-D graphics, a captivating storyline and an innovative action battle system.

 • Custom-made for next-gen: Enjoy amazing, high-definition, anime style cel-shading and high quality textures that truly deliver an awesome next-gen experience.
 • Innovative battle system: Battle using a unique hybrid turn-based/action RPG system that combines free-roam and turn-based action (with up to three players during battle).
 • Strategic use of light and darkness: Adjust your battle strategy in the ongoing struggle between light and darkness. Beware of enemies lurking in the shadows, as their stats—attacks and potency—will change, as will their physical form. Lure them out into the light or destroy them there in the cloak of darkness. Change your special attacks depending on whether you are in the light … or in the dark.
 • Dramatic and evolving storyline: Experience a deeply moving story focusing on the enduring struggle between good and evil all while taking place in a dream during the final three hours of world-famous music composer Frederic Chopin's life.
 • Mesmerizing music: Listen as world-renowned pianist Stanislav Bunin performs Chopin's original compositions, which are a key element in the environment and story of Eternal Sonata.
I don't see any recent thread on this game (one from like December)., but I just saw a trailer on gamespot.com and wow this game looks great! I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this game...graphics are awesome. Don't really like the story that much...but hopefully it'll be good. With this and blue dragon I'm looking forward to playing my 360 this summer(even though blue dragon doesn't come out then).

You guys aren't into the story? I think it's mad and awesome. Take one of the best classic composers ever to live and throw him into a trippy anime-style death experience? I'm so down.

The graphics also look absolutely incredible. Day 1 purchase for me.

Ya, who knows, might turn out to be good...day 1 purchase for me too. Any estimate in what month this is coming out? The games I wanna get right now include this, blue dragon, GRAW1/2, CoD2/3, and Lost Planet...and Halo 3..

I was just talking about this with a friend the other day. Visually the game looks great. I really really hope it doesn't turn out to be the same as Enchanted Arms did. Visually being great, but being passable for everything else.

More than likely it will be a Day 1 for me too tho. =)

Late June in Japan (official), so hopefully not far after in the rest of the world.

And just in case anyone doesn't know, this is being made by the same development team that did Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins on Gamecube. Gives me hope for it.

I haven't played Enchanted Arms but it really looks like not my type of game from the graphics and battle style...don't know if I'd like it. Also the characters look bad to me in the screenshots..

This, Blue Dragon, and Mass Effect are some of the main reasons I'm about to get a 360 (if MS comes out with the rumored new model it is a guarantee). I am NOT getting it for Halo 3, Gears of War, Crackdown, and stuff like that, though, putting me entirely at odds with gamers like Wombat ;). Hopefully these JRPG's (yes, I know Mass Effect is not one of them) will keep coming despite the PS3 release (where they might otherwise naturally go).

(Games already out that I am most looking forward to playing: Oblivion, Enchanted Arms, and Viva Pinata).

Actually, I think Monolith Soft made the Baten Kaitos games. Tri-Cresendo was involved but Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell) is their first game made by themselves. And if it looks like Radiata Stores its because Tri-Cresendo made the music for that game. Personally, I think this game looks great and I'll pick it up on day one.

P.S. They are also working on an untitled PS3 game.

wow those new vids look great...the more I think about it though the more I hate the story...that's the only complaint I got and it's a big one...grr..

Do you know the actual storyline or are you talking about the premise? I think the premise is kind of hokey and intriguing at the same time. Poor Chopin isn't even the main character in the dream before he dies!

Wikipedia say Tri-Crescendo developed both Baten Kaitos games.

The premise intrigued me before I even saw any actual footage of the game. After viewing the trailer it has become a 1st day must have for me.

Ya the premise is what I meant I guess...sounds like the games one big depressing hole cause all your characters are dying lol, and I like my games with more cheerful attitudes...but I bet at the end....uh...they'll find a cure?? Actually...maybe not since Chopin....

Based on the trailer it doesn't look like Polka is going to live either. I'm fine with main characters dying in games though as long as it's well done.

I think it will definitely be harder to handle than other RPG stories. Hopefully they do it right.

The idea that only people who can save the world from the Big Bad are a bunch of kids who are about to die is wonderfully ironic, though.

Ya wow I'm even more excited for it now...right now in my top 4 that I really want: Blue Dragon, Banjo 3, Halo 3, and this! Story still scares me though lol
I dont know why every one hates on Enchanted Arms, I think its pretty good for what it is.
It's as painfully linear as FFX is, that's one of the major things that pissed me off about it. I liked the battle style as it's like BoF:DQ.

Demo on the JAP Marketplace in the RPG section of Demos (it's one of two) - pretty easy to figure out. ;) I just created a new silver account and started downloading it. Apparently all the menus are in English in the demo.
Hope Microsoft doesn't fix this before I get a chance to grab it later tonight.
From the looks of the demo, if they do fix it, a US demo doesnt seem to far off. The demo has a ESRB ratings screen (japan has cero for their ratings) and the US name (it says eternal sonata, and not trusty bell).

You can make one up real quick, the info is pretty old, but it still works.
http://www.gamersreports.com/article/19/

It asks for a couple things that aren't there, but I just threw in a couple characters for them, and they worked.

The demo was pretty good, very colorful. Not a whole lot of variety in the monsters 3+boss, but being only the first area of the game, can't really complain too much. The battle system is pretty fun, you basically get 5 seconds to move/do actions. Each hit builds up the "Echoes" meter on the right side that lets you use the Y attacks (specials) depending if you're in the sun/shade - as far as I could tell, the larger the Echoes bar was, my high was 32, the stronger the special attack is going to be, or in the case of Beat's camera, how many shots you get.

Yeah I just finished playing through it, took about ~45 minutes. I like the sun/shade aspect of it, and the positioning the characters (took most of my moves the first battle to figure out I had to be next to them to hit them, depending on the attack.). The highest my echo bar got was 26 (or at least once I started paying attention to it after the second guy explained it to me).

The only monster that changed was the onion looking thing right? I didn't see the bird things ever morph because of the sun/shade. Did you ever get a piece of music, there was a guy in the village that wanted to play but I never found one in a chest or anywhere.

I think the demo is awesome. Can't wait to buy this game, definite Day 1 purchase for me.

On a side note, the demo is completely in English so I have no idea why they wouldn't release it here in the U.S.

The only score piece I found was behind a plate in one of the houses in town. It doesn't meld with the piece the kid had tho, so it gave me an F rank for it. =P

Since I didn't see anyone mention this anywhere, I figure I'd note it.

The demo features support for up to 3 players locally. (Though it has the ability to set up to 4 controllers.) You can find it on the second page of the options menu (Yous the right and left buttons to turn the pages.)

It's rare that I see this feature in an RPG, so this makes me love this game even more ^_^

Wow, great news. Will bring back Secret of Mana/Evermore memories for me and a buddy. Was so much fun co-op running through those two games.

Destructoid mentioned this as well. Gonna do this tonight for sure. Trying to avoid RPGs in general, but I have to try these 360 ones at least...

Multiplayer console RPGs are rare and awesome in my book, so this might be a must-buy for me if the demo pans out...

This demo just made me have a JRPG appihany never liked JRPG's at all before. I love everything about this demo. Is Blue Dragon's battle system like this?

Don't think Blue Dragon has a similar battle system -- from the media I've seen it appears to be a standard turn based RPG. Eternal Sonata is definitely much more action packed, I love how you can do standard attacks to raise your star meter and once it's maxed out, unleash a special attack that does large amounts of damage. The time element is great as well, it keeps the gameplay from being stagnant, you're constantly making decisions and choosing the best strategy to use against enemies.

I'll post up a video later on tonight that we're doing that showcases the demo.

Seems alright. it was getting very repetitive at the end of the demo...and as usual, the characters and dialog are too cutesy for my tastes.

and I swear, every male lead in RPGs has the same voice actor. is it the guy who plays Inuyasha?

I found myself running behind enemies and hitting A mindlessly i got 32 stars...that seemed to be the best strat. at least, it was the only strat worth using in the demo, unless you need to heal :)

Actually, the demo is region coded.. based on what your system's region is, it will either be in Japanese or English.

If someone in Japan downloaded the demo it would be in full Japanese, but since we've got US consoles, it became "Eternal Sonata" for us.

When I say in english, I mean voices and everything. The same thing applies for Japanese consoles, only with japanese voices and text instead of English.

Pretty cool demo :)
I would imagine the actual game is less repetitive. We can hope for the best.
I think it would have to be.. the demo is limited to 4 special abilities per character (2 light and 2 dark, with the exception of Alegretto, who only has 1 light move)
I would imagine the actual game is less repetitive. We can hope for the best.
Not sure I get what you're trying to say here, unless you're completely new to the genre. I have yet to play an RPG (particularly one from Japan) that didn't have some level of repetition. And yeah, this is a demo...

The gameplay reminds me a lot of Radiata Stories and so far, I'm liking it a lot. I'll probably be picking this up when it comes here.

I happen to be completely new to the genre.

I played co-op with my brother I took Allegretto, he took Polka and Beat. We both agreed if you could play this over co-op and keep your game save over co-op it would be beyond awesome. He isn't new to the genre.

so I'd imagine that it wouldn't be hard for MS to kill all our JP accounts if it can already tell which demo to d/l ;)

If it's in any way like the way Tales of... games do it, then a co-op save is just like a regular save, because the additional players can just drop in and out whenever. If you're talking about online co-op, probably not going to happen.

Just finished the demo which cemented my decision to pick this up day one.

There are three different cutscenes, fairly short, if you let the title screen timeout a few times. Here's to hoping (more like dreaming) that the final US version will have Japanese audio with English subtitles. If I'm not mistaken, Blue Dragon is supposed to, no?
