Eternal Sonata - Gen. Discussion + Info
so I'd imagine that it wouldn't be hard for MS to kill all our JP accounts if it can already tell which demo to d/l ;)
Sounds about right. They aren't planning on locking down demos and game content on a per region basis anytime soon.. I think they only did it with video content to keep publishers from suing them.

Per Arne, a Msft community rep on GAF:

The sonic games on XBOX did the same thing, it was the only way to get the japanese voices.

Whoever was looking for the music piece its in the field of flowers in the back left corner area. Just keep hitting A along the back there. That's the one that gives you an A instead of the F piece that is hidden behind the pot.

Awesome, I'll have to try that out later.
For those who weren't able to get this demo yet, we've posted a high quality 6 minute video showcasing battle sequences, environments and the final boss battle (where his ass gets kicked btw). It's up on gametrailers.com now:

Enjoy!
Dang nice job on the vid. This definitely looks like my kind of game now after watching this, and right now this and Halo 3 by far are my most anticipated games. Was there an approximated release date for this game again?

Gonna have to set up a JAP account for myself :p

This game is gorgeous, and the gameplay reminds me of Star Ocean 2.

I hope there is more variety of enemies in the retail version though.

The quick 'how to' on getting the demo to play on an American machine:

Creating your own Japanese Xbox Live Silver Account
1) Head on over to Microsoft’s passport Web site (if you’re logged in to a current account, make sure to sign out). Sign up for a new, free Hotmail account.
2) When asked, remember to answer that you’re from Japan — don’t worry, you dirty liar, we won’t judge you.
3) The next part, which would be the “trickiest,” is entering some additional information about where you are from. You’ll have to enter bogus information. The following should work fine (the phone number is for a Domino’s Pizza near Akebonobashi Station in Tokyo):
Postal code: 150-2345
Province: Tokyo-to
Phone Number: 098-974-0604

4) Once you’ve activated your new Hotmai account, it’s time to head on over to your Xbox 360. Switch profiles if necessary (the X button) and create a new profile, and a new Xbox Live account.
5) You’ll next have to sign in with your new Japanese passport. Keep the number for Domino’s Pizza Akebonobashi handy, because you’re going to need to enter it again. Also, you might get hungry.
6) Create a gamertag and … that’s it!
Anything downloaded off of the Japanese marketplace can be played using accounts from other regions.
digg it

Definitely make that account. It's an awesome demo.

Hmmm.... I don't really like it when RPG's make you click a button everywhere to find hidden items. I was doing that a bit but didn't find anything. I had a feeling, though, that was how it worked. At least they should implement this like Radiata Stories where you kick everything and you can see if things are likely to come out or not (if the thing you kick moves). Just clicking 'A' with nothing happening isn't enough feedback.

Otherwise the game is gorgeous, and I'm moderately intrigued by the battle system - it actually has some turn-based strategy elements to it, which is interesting. It's a very wierd mix of traditional turn-based battling, real-time 3D action, AND turn-based strategy.

I got killed by some wild boar thingy - is that even the final boss or just some sub-boss? I think I screwed up the item allocation and didn't have the peach cookies (healing item) set so my characters could use them. Is there a way to use any item (and not just what is assigned to 'X') during battle? As soon as I try to do something the timer runs down and I couldn't figure out if there was a way to call up a menu.

You can switch items real-time by pressing RB or LB. Thing is, you have to set up the items you want in the pallete before battle.

Yeah, when I was in that battle the 'X' option just said "Empty". I guess I have to set them all up next time (I had 3 or 4 things left in the inventory).

I really enjoyed it actually-- and I didn't think I would. I don't know exactly how the system is going to play out with a much longer experience, but the combat for the the 40 minute demo felt tight and responsive enough. The complete and utter lack of story kept me guessing a bit-- and I must say that while the static images I've seen of the game look decent-- actually seeing things move on screen gives a much better picture. When I first engaged in battle, and had it flow smoothly into the beautiful animation, I was like... "Woah... Shit."

I don't know if its Day 1 for me, just because I don't think the subject matter of the game is going to appeal. However, at a reduced price, or part of a gameznflix rental (if they ever get a copy in) is a no-brainer.

Kudos to the Language support as well. Also, that little hook-gun guy is a straight pimp.

I don't see this dropping in price any time soon. Most of what little 360 RPGs are out are still full price, I believe. Either way, this is a day one title for me, too...
What is this, an RPG with FUN battles?! Oh, no wonder, it's not being developed by Square.
Try the Star Ocean series if you liked the combat.
Try the Star Ocean series if you liked the combat.
Star Ocean 3 was nothing but you controlling one guy, hacking away, while the CPU AI does most of the work. I prefer Eternal Sonata's combat.

Never played 3, but I loved 2.

I do like ES's combat though.

Hmm well I want to download this demo, but I dont know if its still even on there. I see this "Tehncu Z" demo, some Zgaiden one, then 2 demos both in Japanese that I can't read. One has a gem, another has some words with a white background as the little picture there. Which one do I download lol

I believe it is the one with the gem.

aaah ya I found it and was just going to post lol. Do you know what the other game is? the picture doesn't look familiar when I click on it...

This game is a lot of fun, and everything looks beautiful. It's just too bad the story is so damn unappealing. For me it's the same exact thing with blue dragon. The stories just don't interest me at all.

Just beat the demo, took me a little less than 40 minutes, and ya it was awesome. Battle system was great, great graphics all around in all the characters and environments and stuff...but ya I agree, I still don't like the story. Either way I'll be buying this game pretty darn quickly...cause usually I hate ANY single player demo, and the less I hate it the more I like the final game, but this one I actually liked...:D

EDIT: Ya I just wish I knew a release date though...said september in the demo, but thats Japanese I suppose lol

No, the game actually does come out in September. It scheduled for the 17th but its a shame because this game is most likely going to be overlooked because of Halo 3 coming out on the 25th.

The Japanese release date is on June 14.

wow....you serious? Dang ya I just read IGNs hands-on and they said "early summer", but anyway that is aweeesome! Well do you think there will be a sale on this fairly quickly? By far the game I'm looking forward to most on the 360 right now. (With halo 3 following then Blue dragon xD)

This game better not get overlooked though...and I'm not positive it will since its like the only good RPG that will be coming out besides blue dragon, which I dont know when it is scheduled for release either.

I have a fear that it possibly won't make it over here to america town unless they tone down the amount of colorfulness the game has.

This fall is going to be catastrophic for a lot of releases. A lot of them are going to wish they pushed harder to release at the beginning of summer and not the end. There are about 10 games on my list and due my wallet can't handle the outlay in such a short period of time. As a result, this game as well as like UT3 (I'll save my money for completely new/original games and wait for this one on the PC once some good mods come out for it). Others have been relegated to "wait for price cut later".

Especially after Odin Sphere my "OMFG look at the art" game desire has been sated, this game may look nice but the demo played pretty much the same as other J-RPG's before it so I'm going to be waiting for the reviews on this one. Unless there is a significant story payoff I doubt I'll be paying full price for this, something tells me that other than the music the Chopin angle will be just used as an excuse for the Radiata style fantasy world rather than an inspiration.

Ya...I only got Halo 3 and this...and I guess I'd like to buy PokemonDiamond or Pearl soon also. Banjo Kazooie would be on there too...but I don't see it being released for a while yet lol.

I just never like preordering because if suddenly the game turns out horrible..... =/

But ya if I can get a free faceplate, then even if the game DOES turn out horrible, I bet I can trade the game back in and sell the faceplate and get my money back anyway lol.

But...ya I haven't preordered for along time, so again can I switch a preorder for Halo 3 to this and get the bonus (faceplateS) from Gamestop?

The thing I didn't like about the demo is that the encounters weren't random. You had a railed path you could walk down, and visible enemies were strategically placed along the path to force battles. Kinda took the fun out of the encounters since you could see them sitting there from across the screen.

Ya I wasn't sure about that but I actually didn't mind it. Just the camera got a bit irrating when I'd turn left and right at times, but it was still good. You can actually avoid those guys...just sneak up from their back. I did it a few times just to see if it could be done (but then I'd go back and fight em since I liked the battle stuff lol).

Also I don't think any of the main characters will die anymore as said in the first couple pages of the thread...I think that the Allegretto guy will find the cure thing for Polka lol

I kind of like that since you can walk around them (well if they allow you anyway). My biggest peeve of jrpgs is the random battles, walk 4 steps random battle, walk another 4 steps etc. Especially if you are just trying to get somewhere

Woah guys check out this trailer... it was brand new to me. Game looks awesome and the characters look great. Apparently famitsu gave it a 36/40. There's only a bit said...but this answers the "how long" question a bit too.

Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume [Eternal Sonata] (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco): 9 / 9 / 8 / 10 - (36/40)
- Graphics and music are good
- Camera kinda sucks
- Game is about 30 hours long

From playing the demo I kinda agree with the "camera sucks" statement as I said before...well it doesn't suck that bad, but it could definitely be better.

If I knew how to put the trailer on the following site in a format where you wouldn't have to link to it I'd put it in the OP, XD

Go here: (For the trailer and the copy/pasted review above)

Happens just about every fall. Movie blockbusters crammed into the summer months, game releases in the fall months. It's unfortunate, but it probably won't change. =)

Could I start an xbox live silver account (Saying that I'm in japan) And download the demo?
Could I start an xbox live silver account (Saying that I'm in japan) And download the demo?
Yup.
You can make one up real quick, the info is pretty old, but it still works.
http://www.gamersreports.com/article/19/

It asks for a couple things that aren't there, but I just threw in a couple characters for them, and they worked.
Yep you can...this was posted somewhere earlier so just follow the guidelines on the site and it works great :D

Just created a Japanese Live account and the Eternal Sonata demo is downloading... can't wait. I watched the demo video and the graphics are beautiful. Hopefully it plays better than a standard Japanese RPG.

I got the demo, and boy I can tell you I can't wait to play Tales of Symphonia 2!

Huh? (Someone whispers in my ear) OH!!!....Eternal Sonata. But seriously, I loved Tales of Symphonia and that's the vibe I'm getting from this game.

I had no idea how to do the song thing though.

Ya I didn't know how to do the music part either...anyone get a better grade than an "F"? lol

You need to get a different score piece that is at the back end of the flower field. So use that score piece when playing with the dude in town instead of the score piece you find behind the plate in one of the village homes and you'll score an "A" ranking.

aaa cool thanks. wow can't believe I actually missed an item in the game...I fought and went into every crevace I saw xD

Don't know if this fell under the radar or if people knew this already but the eternal sonata demo is now up on the US marketplace you don't have to buy a cheesy magazine to get to try it out anymore.

Wife loved the demo.

I loved the throwback battle music which sounded like a remix of Baten Kaitos battle music. She loved that game to.

Tri Crensdo or whatever their names be, are getting a lot of love from my wife and money.
