Europeans smell funny... and Amsterdam is dirty!

Howdy everybody!
I'm Baaaack! Bet ya didn't even notice I was gone.
It's been a while since I've posted here and I (honestly) have a good reason why: I've been out of the country for quite a while. So while everyone here was having a grand time playing whatever new release came out in the past few months, I was having the time of my life in Europe. I just want to formally announce my return, and (of course) do a little bragging.

On May 16th, I left with my wife from sunny and beautiful Orlando, Florida and flew over to windy and really shaq-fuing cold (34 degrees in May!!!) Amsterdam. We met up with a buddy of mine, his girlfriend and three other girls and headed off on the vacation of a lifetime!

Over the next 6 weeks we visited Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Switzerland (big shaq-fuing mountains), Florence (that's in Italy), Naples (that's in Italy too), Athens (Greece), Mykonos (Greek Isle), Rome (hope you know where that is), Nice (France), Paris (ditto Rome), San Sebastian (Spain), Barcelona (Spain again), Barberino val d'Elsa (Italy - Chianti region), Prague (Czech Republic), and Amsterdam again before we left for home.

The trip was amazing!!! We saw so many famous places and incredibly interesting things. If anyone shows some interest, I'll throw up some photos later. We had a ton of fun.

Yes I smoked out in Amsterdam. Yes I went to the Red Light District. No I didn't buy a prostitute (although they were surprisingly good looking). Yes I climbed the Eiffel Tower. No I didn't see Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes. Yes I went to topless beaches (yah boobies!!!) - now why don't we have more of those in the U.S.? Yes I saw the Coliseum. Yes I saw the mummified people in Pompeii. and Yes. Europeans smell funny.

So anyway, I'm back. Just wanted to say hi and like i said, brag a little. Hope everyone else is having a great summer!

Sounds like fun. I'd like to get back to Europe for some sightseeing myself but I have one question - how the hell did you pay for the trip and get 6 weeks off of work? When I was there for 3 months I was a college student and I spent most nights sleeping on the beach, a train or an overcrowded hostel. I also didn't eat that much. It sure was fun though - I'd love to do it again but there's just no time for it...
 
hey welcome back :) glad u had an awesome trip, the guy who lives upstairs from me plays bongos for marc anthony, he told me all about amsterdam...at least about the hookers being good looking :p!...but yea seriously, ive always wanted to see some good world imagry :)! post some pics if u get the time, im sure other CAGs wud like em as well
 
Oh yeah, if you ever saw one of those hookers up close you wouldn't think they were so good-looking - the red lights are there for a reason - they hide pock marks, skin blemishes and wrinkles. I did find it insanely funny that for $20 you could get whatever you wanted and a lot of them would yell "student discount" as you walked by. That's like the cost of lunch every day for me. Now that's some cheapass lovin'...
 
I never got any "student discount" offers in Amsterdam, that would have just cracked me up. I'm actually starting Medical School in about a month, so I used this last summer to have as much fun as possible. We did this whole trip on the cheap. Sleeping in hostels (or whereever we could find for cheap), riding the rails with our Eurial passes. The most expensive things were the plane tickets over there and the rail passes. Once we were on the ground, we managed very well. Actually came back with almost 1/3 of our budget money left! I'll try to post some pictures later today.

That makes sense - I went on my trip between college and working. Not a care in the world. It was great. You are right - everything is pretty cheap once you get over there. You could easily get by on $20 a day for food for all three meals and once you have the Europass you are set for transportation. Damn, I want to go back now...

I have always wanted to visit Europe... I'd like to think they're less industrialized/commercialized than we are (as in, there isn't a Walgreens and Starbucks on every corner in cities)... but i have no proof of that. Is it true? I feel almost as though I'm seperated from the rest of human history, living all the way over here in the United States...

BTW, Could you please explain what Europeans smell like? :D
