Not sure if its such a good deal

L4D can be had for $40, Orange box for $20. So for $60 bucks you can get the meat of what that offers. CSS and DODS are sorta fun but are certainly aged and havent had a meaningful content update in years. They arent a justification of the additional $40 in my opinion. As far as the origonal HL games, who hasnt played them yet? I think you can still find the HL platinum bundle if you really wanted the older stuff for quite cheap if you look hard enough. Again i wouldnt call the addition of 8-10 year old games justification for the added money. Especially since most of those games were given free [DOD/CS was free with HL : HL and its addons were given free with HL2 along with CSS and HL Source and Lost Coast was a free Tech demo for HDR]. L4D and the Orange box are the only 2 really good titles for the cash in that list and they arent $100.

Also keep in mind that if/when Valve releases HL3 there is an excellent chance they'll simply throw in all the previous titles for free anyway. My logic in that point is if you've managed to go a decade without playing the older titles you probably arent going to care waiting some more as opposed to shelling out an additional $40 right this second for em.
DOD:S got a ton of new maps, new gameplay modes, and achievements earlier this year. You don't think that's a substantial update? o_O

I already have everything there except L4D, HL:S and HL:S Deathmatch... oh well. :\

As if the Orange Box wasn't good enough... Damn you Valve for making awesome stuff. My PC appreciates it.

Great games but not such a deal as I think you can get them separately cheaper with deals that come along frequently. I got The Orange box for like $24 and L4D for $36 from Amazon.

For collectors, wouldn't you prefer the box copies? I love steam, but for a true collector it isn't the same as having a box copy. I'll have to admit it would be great to easily launch any of these valve games for any pc I'm signed in my steam account though.
Seems like a decent enough deal if you don't have any of these. Also Exedor has what appears to be an epic 1.0 wood elf druid as his avatar. That means it can't be all that bad. Need port to NK PST.
Hehe free ports for life! :)

Also 90% rez now too for druids and shammies :)

Guess what you get in a box copy: A box, a disc, and a paper with the CD key. That's it. These games don't include manuals at all. The discs are useless after you activate the key on Steam. I have retail boxes for Orange Box, CS: Source and CS: Anthology and they're just taking up space because they aren't needed anymore.

I would go for a retail copy if I could install it anywhere I wanted without having to be tied to Steam. But that's it. :\

Spoke too soon, forgot about the DOD S update. However "ton of new maps?". Try 1 official. And the other big thing, the addition of achievments, are for stat whores if thats your thing, doesnt effect gameplay. Not sure what gameplay modes you're talking about unless you mean the cosmetic rank gains linked to achievments. Again, meaningless feature. That was apparently the big update this year. In 2006 it got the barely played Jagd maps. Its still sad how poor the official support for DOD S and CSS was. DOD S is a shadow of its former self missing an entire nation and both games are still missing a lot of maps. Updates that will most likely never come.

I'm pretty sure all these are playable if you have the HL1 & HL2 engine.

it almost makes me wish i didn't already own all of these games. then again, if i were to purchase all of these games together, it would create such a massive backlog of quality gaming, i wouldn't know where to begin.

If i was a newcomer to Steam, which i'm not and didn't have most of these, it's literally the best gaming deal ever.

And Left 4 Dead is awesome.
Does anyone know if this is a limited-time thing or if it's permanent?

I'm looking to get a new PC very shortly, so I'd be interested in picking this up when I get it, even though I already have all of the HL1 stuff.
They always have a Valve complete package so this will stay and it's not a limited time price either, it's not like they're going to sell out on steam :p
anyone know if you can gift the games you already own in the package when you purchase? (already have cs, portal ,etc)
I'm not sure how steam is set up nowadays but a few years back when i bought the steam gold package (i think that's what it was called) i used a new steam account for it. by doing this i was able to give my old account name and password to a friend.

PS: there isn't enough counterstrike love in here.
If I didn't already have almost every other game on there, I'd be all over this :)
My thoughts exactly. The only game I want on that list that I don't already have is L4D. :)

i second the notion this is almost worth getting for a 2nd steam account.

the problem with this deal is that most people who would be interested in these games already have them (or at least most of them).

i support everyone who called mr rico college an idiot.
anyone know if you can gift the games you already own in the package when you purchase? (already have cs, portal ,etc)
yes you can gift games you have double of (i already have an extra copy of HL2)

setting up a new steam account would probably be best, if you didnt buy non-valve games.
Boo.
Honestly, that's one of the draws for me. How is it different?
Extreme is basically a demo version.

I just went for the deal, and I'm pleased. It does let you gift the games you already own - it's right there on the My Games tab in Steam, so it's very easy to give them away. Just do it! Although, Portal (which I bought as single release) is not transferable I just noticed.

That seems awfully strange. Did you try contacting Valve about it?

I would bite, but I already have OB and don't see myself ever playing any of the other games besides L4D.

like many in this thread, I would be all over this deal if I hadn't already owned most of these games

I really wouldn't care to much about this deal. I'd only really care for Team Fortress 2 as it seems like a really awesome game which I want to get someday. Customization is like crazy in Team Fortress 2.
