Everybody Votes - New Channel for download
But Scobie, games should encourage people to turn on their wiis not this.
You're thinking like a hardcore gamer. Everybody Votes is for the casuals. Nintendo needs to be doing more stuff like this to follow through on the promise to attract new audiences. It's going to pay off big dividends for all of us in the end.

Yeah, after downloading this, I actually kinda like it. It's a fun little thing to mess around with. I'm liking the Wii for being able to just burn 10 minutes sometimes. VC games are great for it as are Wii Sports Fitness tests... don't think this will last me as long as either (or at least as regularly), but it's pretty fun to use if nothing else.

To the casual & non gamers that Nintendo is trying to attract, messing around with these channels for a few minutes is playing a game. If a nongamer checks the weather and tries to spin the globe as fast as possible, then answers a few questions, they have just 'played nintendo'.

Very well put. :applause:

Precisely. Casual people will eat this stuff up. And heck, I'm a hardcore gamer and I find myself surfing the news channel or spinning that silly weather globe even though I can get news or weather on my laptop much faster. (And let's not get started on the bizarre joy of Mii creation.) The Wii has that wierd addictive quality to it. This poll channel just adds another layer of bizarre casual interactivity to the little console.

I downloaded the channel today and I was surprised that I enjoyed it. Sure it was a little strange, but it's a fun way to kill a few minutes.

This is the best Channel they've given us so far. Weather is cool to mess around with at first, though useless since I can look at the window next ot my Wii, and News isn't too great...but this channel is totally awesome.

Plus, it's called EVERYBODY VOTES. How awesome is that?
I must be retarded. I downloaded the update but I don't see it on the main page... what's up with that?
Any channel that isn't already on your Wii Channels homepage has to be downloaded from the Wii Shop (assuming you have the Internet Channel, it's the same thing). Updates aren't going to download them for you.

Yeah, it's called false advertisement. ;) You haven't used the Internet Channel for pron yet?

The weather channel would be nice if it was updated more often. I really love the news channel, I'm not the type to go to any news site besides game and technology related ones, but I often find myself checkout out the latest news right after booting up my Wii.
so when will the voting go for "Reggies Penis Size" go?

When we finally, as a civilization, count to a number high enough to represent its length properly.
Ahh, that is true good sir. But one can't forget that while protracted in length, the ladies love Reggie's wang because of its girth. The real poll question should be, How inadequate does Reggie make you feel. The choices, of course, are:

A) very
B) very, very
C) I am not a real man

A and B only!

Who else has submitted a question to vote on? Post them here so that we believe your lyin' ass when the time comes for them to use your query.

I submitted "Would you rather have a large, luxurious car or a small, efficient car?"

I just want some Ninten-cred by getting my question posted =)
Yeah! Go Roses!
Word, 100% guessed correctly and I'm still 82 feet or whatever away from popular opinion.

The results are in for "Which is a more romantic Valentine's Day gift?" Roses win with 73.1% of the vote, which was my prediction.

72.9% of males chose roses while 73.7% of females chose roses, as well. Prediction accuracy was 78.8% across the nation. Every state in the country chose roses, as well.

We've got a new question: "Which color do you like better?" Red or Blue. Wow.

Also, what's your "Distance from Popular Opinion" and "How Tuned In Are You?" ratings?
263 pts. tuned in leaning mostly on thoughts and I'm 284m from popular opinion.

Why does Wiiconnect HAVE to be turned on for this? After it made me turn it on it went online and got all of the results, etc. This kind of bad programming makes me pull my hair out.

Because it needs to be online to be accessed? That's what it says on Nintendo's website.

The Dogs vs. Cats poll is done and calculating results and there's a new worldwide poll: "Your friend is ten minutes late for a date. You are... Angry or Indifferent."

I submitted would you rather see more Mario games or more Zelda games on the Wii, but based on what we've seen so far I doubt Nintendo would ask something like that since the questions seem to have nothing to do with their business.

I submitted, "Are virtual console games too expensive?" "Yes/No" Somehow I doubt my question will get picked to be on the channel. Worth a shot though.

Man, Guatemala could give two shits about cats. Most of Central America, for that matter. Do they eat cats or something? At least Austria is down with our feline friends.

Yeah, I doubt you'll ever see nerdy gaming questions on there. This is 'everybody votes', and that includes your grandma.

Maybe there aren't many Wiis in Guatemala or Austria. A small sample size could easily skew the results.
Maybe there aren't many Wiis in Guatemala or Austria. A small sample size could easily skew the results.
The magic number to get within one percentage of a populace is only in the three hundreds, if I remember correctly. There should at least be that many. Austria and Switzerland are very near in proximity and their results were similar. Same with central America. That sould count for something, as well.
Yeah, it's called false advertisement. ;) You haven't used the Internet Channel for pron yet?
Well of COURSE I did...am I the only one that thinks this Channel is better than porn?

"One amazing fact is that whether the survey researcher is studying the characteristics of people in a city or a whole country, about 1200 randomly-selected participants will enable the researcher to be 95 percent confident of describing the entire population with an error margin of 3 percent or less." - pg. 10, Myers, Social Psychology

It should also be worth noting that any poll that takes place on the Wii is not of a randomly-selected group of participants, and is therefore not accurate in reflecting the opinions of any region in which it takes place - only that of Wii owners.
Well of COURSE I did...am I the only one that thinks this Channel is better than porn?
Probably.

The channel isn't as lame as I originally thought. Not a bad way to kill 5-10 minutes.

I was going to say...The size of the sample is significantly less important than the MAKEUP of the sample. Thus, your method of choosing participants is paramount. So limiting polls to Wii owners, while interesting, will produce pretty skewed results...Not as skewed as polling, say, 360 owners, but skewed nonetheless.

It reminds me of the old "Dewey Defeats Truman!!!" story. That headline was predicated largely on a phone poll of registered voters. Only problem was, back then, only those in a very specific affluent demographic owned a phone. So the results they got were not representative of the actual electorate. Exit polls are a significant improvement, but they're still fallible (as the last two presidential elections proved).

True, Wii owners in Guatemala certainly do not bear any indications of the population as a whole. There may be qualities more or less unique to Wii owners.

It's like saying that people who watch what they eat and exercise tend to be wealthier that those who do not. But is the cause reallly the effect? Do wealthier people have time to exercise and the money to buy healthier food more than those who have to work more.

Perhaps Wii owners are younger and prefer having a playful dog over a cat. Perhaps those in Austria and Switzerland (was it?) stay inside more as it's colder and find cats make better companions.

...whoa...

I took statistics in college over five years ago and this post is beginning to give me flashbacks already

Cambot out.

Don't forget, people with Wiis also likely represent the upper class in greater numbers than they represent the lower class!

So this is why the Wii has been glowing for a few days, actually it's been like this for at least a week or two, maybe some body sent me a Mii. Oh well, still not turning it on.

No, it didn't come in an update, the vote channel is on the Wii Shop. Your Wii is probably glowing because Nintendo sent down that stupid wrist strap warning/replacement message to everyone's console

I finally got this channel. Pretty cool. I like the music as well. It reminds me of one of those cholesterol commercials.

Anyone else having trouble choosing between the heat or the cold? I can't decide which I like less, and I have no idea what the voting will be like around the country.
Anyone else having trouble choosing between the heat or the cold? And fi everyone else thinks about showers, the prediction is also pretty easy.

So far I'm 5-1, I don't remember which one I missed, but it was surprising... Oh, I think it was red/blue.

I missed that one too.

Hot showers are one thing, but "boiling hot" (212 Fahrenheit) is another.

Which temperature would you rather stand around in? 32 F, or 212 F?

I went with heat as well. I don't think the majority of people are thinking of extreme heat and cold; they'll think Mexico temps versus Canada temps.

Well, I hope they think along those lines.

And I'm 5-1 as well.

I prefer cold, but predicted heat. Most of my friends prefer hot weather to cold.

I'll take the cold anyday, you can always bundle up. Only so many clothes you can take off without getting arrested and suburnt in bad places. :D
