Most people who say 7 sucked didn't buy the game the day it came out (or around that time) and have their minds blown scene after scene, battle after battle, summon after summon, all the way until the crazy ass ending.

There will never be another experience quite like playing FFVII for the first time before amazing graphics and deep stories became the norm. It was LIGHTYEARS beyond every game that was coming out at the time. So if you missed out on that pivotal moment in gaming, oh well! Maybe Halo 3 will be like that, LOL

I don't know what your definition of a deep story in a game is, but with an extensive world with many dynamic characters each dealing with their own set of problems, taking place over a longer period of time and containing fleshed out themes-- FF7 was like a Dostoyevsky novel compared to most games back when it first came out

yes, there were some choice rpgs on the snes and maybe a few on the psx at the time, but everyone who isn't bashing something just to get a kick out of fanboys can agree(or can't deny) that ff7 was huge.

that said, it's not my favorite rpg, it's outdated these days, and now that the hype is gone and all is said and done, I like Xenogears better :D
