Ex-Amazon DotD - Nintendo DS Lite Web Browser STILL $21.99

This was one of the products I regret buying.

Maybe good for somebody, but not me. I sold it at that price on Half.com not a long time ago.

Really that bad, huh? I was gonna pick this up with Eragon ($10) to get free shipping.

I remember when this first came out and people got crazy over it and were paying like $34.99 and being so excited about it. I never laughed so hard. Today, I laugh the hardest.

I might get this when it hits $5, but I don't really see much use for it.
It should've been built-in.

It's worse, much worse. This thing seems slower than dialup due to the rendering speed. I can't help but think that the DS could do better, and Opera just left this on the back burner...

I'm looking at my DC right now. Ah the wonderful memories of dial-up, Seganet, and FREE online Phantasy Star. Those were the days.
I guess I'll have to skip out on the browser then.

Really? Wow, then it is worthless--isn't like 2/3 of the WWW made out of FLASH these days? I'm being serious.

This is almost as dumb as the PS3's Web Browser not supporting FLASH above v7.0.

You are so right!!! Those were magical times and I can honestly say that I have not had that feeling since. My brother and I would play PSO for hours and hours back in those days. The dreamcast was the best. And I also bought SEGANET which lasted about 6 months

Browsing the web on any mobile device is not pleasant unless the pages are desighned specifically for the hardware/software you're using.

Wow, I guess I'm the only one, but I've loved having this. I don't regret my purchase at all. CAG, eBay, IMDB, Mapquest, Engadget, Slashdot, Google/Gmail, Amazon, and most of the other sites I visit regularly work fine, and while the lack of flash support keeps it from being really really cool or anything, it's still nice to have on the train or in the mall when there's a hot spot and I want to look something up. Plus it's no slower than my phone's browser, so I'm satisfied as far as mobile internet is concerned. Sure, it could have been infinitely better, but I still wholeheartedly think it's worth picking up for cheap.

My wife loves this. Can check her gmail while nursing the baby in the rocking chair.

Paid full price and worth it! I have my Moto Q though so no need for it on my DS.

My big thing is that I'd love to have this so I can play games wirelessly at a hotel. You can't just fire it up and play since you have those stupid Hotel wireless "Login Pages" that require you to agree to legal garbage before the router will allow any other access. Use the browser to log in, swap the system over to Mario Kart or something, and since my MAC addy is still cached in their routers, I'm good to go.

Always hated that I can't play online at a Hotel. Always kills me. Besides using MacMakeup or some other MAC spoofer and a laptop to log in via it first, is there any trick to getting into a Hotel wireless w/ a DS?

I'd pick it up at $10.

I bought this since I travel for work so much. It is painful to use.
I only use it when I really really need to look something up.

It is the slowest web tool I have dealt with in years.
If you like this browser, you have the patience of a saint.

I was thinking about this so I could check cheapassgamer and a couple other sites if I am ever on vacation, but everyone is making me rethink it.

Well I would think its an okay substitute if you don't have a laptop, PDA, smartphone on hand to browse the internet. But for its limitations I heard Opera did a good job with the touch screen interface, but yeah if I were to personally get it I would wait till someone would clearance it.

I would almost consider getting this, except I have the original style DS and the Lite version of the RAM pack doesn't work with it (you need to order the original style one from Nintendo directly). Although I wouldn't use it for much, I already have a PSP which has an internet browser superior to the DS one in almost every way, except that it's way faster entering text on the DS browser. Might be handy for a few simple pages that I want to access quickly, and for checking mail etc. (it does work with Live/Hotmail ok, right?)

Oh and just to clairify, it doesn't have any multimedia support whatsoever: even sounds and audio files won't work with it.

I can't believe Nintendo would release a product without the high quality standards they are known for. Shame on you guys.

Crap. If you actually care about this kind of thing, it's much more worthwhile to invest in a cell phone with Windows Mobile or something with a decent browser. Most of those will reformat nicely and at much higher speeds (especially over EDGE or 3G).

Thanks. You talked me out of it. The PSP browser is godawful. If this one's even worse, then I'll pass.

This is a good point, and the only reason I've ever heard to own this. Still, $20 just for that seems kind of lame.

I've NEVER understood why someone interested in this wouldn't just put the $20 (or normally $35) towards a Playstation portable. 10x more RAM and 10x more processing power. The new one might even take advantage of the extra RAM. The PSP's browser is lame, but better than plenty of other mobile browsers, and no worse than the others I've tried. I'd HATE trying to browse on a system with 4MB and a 66MHz CPU...I mean that's like some old Windows 3.1 machine running Netscape 2 or something...

I've never understood why anyone would pay $200 for a PSP... but they did. (before Sony's necessary price cut.)

Certainly spending $20 on a crappy browser is more sensible than spending $200 on a pitiful system.

(btw, please excuse any typos as I'm posting from my Wii's browser -- which was free.)

Why wouldn't they? I paid $250, which wasn't a bad price.

Certainly spending $20 on a crappy browser is more sensible than spending $200 on a pitiful system.

I would agree, except we're talking about the Playstation Portable, not a pitiful system. Spending $20 on a bad browser makes no sense compared to spending (effectively) $150 more on a system you should own anyway.

Yeah spending $20 on anything thats crappy is sensible indeed :applause:
