ok i have had this broken PS2 for a while now, i want to get it out of my room, its just a space waster

it has a brand new fan, but when i put the fan in, the wire ribbon that opens/closed the disc tray got unclipped from the mother board and it wont snap back in.

i dont know how to fix it but sony should for free.

this is a PS2 i bought on the day of the PS2 release just so you know, i dont think it has DRE's it never had problems playing ANY games but im not 100% positive about how it functions after not being used for a year

im asking 40$ plus the price of shipping

I hate to chime in.. but Sony fixes problems with their DVD drives for free. I doubt they're going to fix "someone knocked a solder joint free while their PS2 was open" for free.

so than wuts the problem? Clip it back in and if it doesnt stay in find sum way to superglue it in place or solder it.

if you open up the ps2 and removed/broke the seal to replace the fan on the side, that voids that warranty and sony probably wont repair it for free
Well, after contacting Sony, they wanted to charge me $110 dollars for repairs, even though I didn't mention it being opened already. That's just a load of crap speaking I had already gotten another PS2 online pack for $120 after a rebate. So I'm thinking that selling it to Gamestop or EB Games is my real option here, due to me not wanting to set up an Ebay account. Anybody have the slightest idea on how much I could get, or if one store offers more than the other?
 i think you made your case worse....

That's a tad different though, they were talking about a problem from the mechanics of the disk drive, which can happen if you've opened the system to work on it or not. In your PS2 something was unplugged, generally that just doesn't happen at random, so Sony would probably deny the free repair based on the fact that you tried to work on the system yourself and then damaged something. You may be able to get away with, but people probably don't want to spend $40 on maybes. You should send it in yourself, and if they repair it, then sell it. It would be the next logical choice.

i would much rather help someone out in this way, than have this waste space in my room

someone wants a PS2 im sure, easy way to make money too..........buy, repair, sell

i could fix it and make more but would rather help a CAGer out

Did you break the clip, or damage the ribbon, or are you just not able to reattach it?

Specificly, which cable is it? Is it the one from the eject button on the front?

And are there any other problems whatsoever? What was the original problem that warranted opening the PS2? Did that cause any other damage?

its the main ribbon that works the eject, and restart button

the clip is broken, reason i cannot fit it back in, a small piec of plastic is missing and it wont "latch" into the moitherboard like it should

the original problem-the fan shattered for whatever reason i have no clue, so i replaced the fan

if you hold the clip in it plays fine, but you need to wedge or glue it in for it to stay

EDIT: no i didnt damage the ribbon at all
