For all of you who get EGM, the September Issue #182 has a three page advertisement for Fable. On pages 13, 15, and 17, there are full page spreads. Fable is coming out this year to cash in on the holiday season for Xbox. If not, it would either come out towards the end of the Xbox's lifecycle, or become a launch title for Xbox 2... neither of which Big Blue Box or Microsoft wants to happen.
This game has to have huge development costs, and it needs to come out this fall to make the sales it needs to cover those costs. It also has one other dilemma facing it: Halo 2. Pushed off til November 9, it makes sense that Microsoft is both a)spacing its blockbuster titles and b)keeping Halo 2 from burying Fable in the media coverage, Xbox owner's wallet ability, and the slew of other holiday titles.
September 14 just happens to be a full 8 weeks (2 months) before Halo 2's release. That should give it enough time to sell well, for the buyer's and media to tell their respective friends and viewers, and for those friends/viewers to buy their respective copies a few weeks to two months after the release date.
I have also been following this game since it was first announced several years ago. Although not as hyped as I have been for it, this is still on my top 3 want list. My only debate is whether to get the pre-order 'DVD'....ooohhh bonus, lol, or to get the Overstock.com $45 deal and save $7. Is the DVD really worth the extra money? And no, I don't need it on its release date since I have way too many games, most of which I have not played. School, work, friends, CAG, and ebay take the majority of my time now.
I'm in the same boat as you regarding pre-ordering, I'm leaning heavily towards no though, as I too have wayyyy too many games, and there is still a big chance of this game sucking IMO and I don't like paying full retail. If this bonus thing is rare though, it may be worth it. Is there anything really cool on the bonus DVD, or is it just some interviews and sudeki demo?
