So, i like fallout 3 but i generally hate games with dark atmospheres. I've heard that Fallout: NV is brighter/has more color. I've also heard it's more upbeat/less creepy.

1) Is any of this true?
2) Is it still really glitchy (for PS3)?
3) Should i buy it from a friend for ~$15? (or will it get cheaper/is the GOTY coming out soon?)

Thanks!

1. It is a little brighter. It has more of a desert, old west feel. If you near the strip on or after 20:00 hours you can physically see the casinos light up.
2. It freezes up once in a while. For me it locks up everytime I try to enter the North Las Vegas gate.
3. $15 is a great deal. There is probably going to be a GOTY edition since there are 4 DLCs that will available for. I personally couldn't wait so I bought a used copy of it.

A GOTY won't come out for quite a long time, considering the final DLC won't even be out until August.

To answer your other questions.

1. As deadguy said, it's a little brighter and certainly less gloomy feeling overall.
2. No. They've released several patches, one of which is from last week that helps A LOT.
3. Yes. $15 is a steal. I paid $60 and would do it again.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Fallout New Vegas GOTY edition out by Christmas time this year. I realize 3 new DLC packs are being released this summer, but Bethesda will want to milk the holiday profits.

Fallout 3 was released Oct 2008 and the GOTY edition was released Oct 2009. Fallout New Vegas was released Oct 2010....see a trend here?

My guess is there will be GOTY New Vegas out by Black Friday this year. That said, I already snagged a PS3 vanilla version a few weeks ago new for $20 and I'm hoping I've waited long enough that the patches will fix some of the glitches and freeze problems by now. I don't care that much about the DLC.

A few new monsters, but most of your fights will be against humans, as always.

I'm playing it now and after about 10 hours, this is what I think.

1. It is brighter/less creepy than F3.. but at the same time, it's also a lot more boring. Outside of the brighter colors and lights, the world in this game is a lot less interesting. In F3, it seemed like you could find interesting old buildings or sights at very turn. In this game, there's lots of buildings and whatnot with little to no exploration opportunities. Even the city of New Vegas, which is supposed to be the center point, is pretty dull. Sure you can play a few games and have some fun but it's not that great. There are a few enemies in NV that are downright creepy though... like the Geckos.

2. I've heard that it's supposed to full of glitches but so far, I've only had one serious glitch (game froze) and a few minor ones: a lip syncing glitch and my partner getting stuck a few times. But I will say that the game loads WAY faster than F3, which is probably its saving grace.

3. I don't think the game won any GotY awards... and $15 is a pretty cheap price.

But overall though, unless it becomes substantially better, F3 was simply a better game.

Considering you could get this brand new at Gamestop for 19.99 (used is 17.99 + tax less PUR discount), $15 might be a deal if you would rather give your money to your friend instead of GS.
