I'm trying to get one of these as a prize to giveaway.
To give away as a prize would be more than an awesome feat. Weren't they very limited in Japan?
ther was a limited edition gold white and red famicon gba. there were only 1000 made and were given away as przes in a contest. after nintendo saw how much demand there was for them, they produced this new one. so yes there is a limited edition famicon gba, but this isnt it.

Hey thanks very much, I was definetly thinking of the 1000 that were made. Still since the only way to get it would be to import it, it would be nice to win it in a contest, even if it isn't the limited edition version. I'd be the envy of my friends.

I like it. I think it would make a great contest prize. I think this one looks much better than the two-tone GBA SP.

do jap gbas play american games?
yep. any gba can play any gba game. theyre region free
then sign me up! ill take one of those gladly.

That is by far the most attractive GBA of any variant, and the J games that are available that are scaled famicom carts are pretty sweet as well.

whats the cheapest anyones seen this? ive seen it for 150, but id like to spend less.

side note, anyone know if jap gbas work on us gcns? it would suck to get this and not be able to use it for ff:cc

I just bought one of these from lik-sang.com along with Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong mini-carts. Hopefully I won't get shorted or anything since the supply is so low.

I got started on these when I was able to pick up the limited green GBA SP that Target sold on Black Friday '03. My girlfriend loves Donkey Kong Country, so the green color was a nice little bonus. Then I found out that they also sell a pink one.

Anybody know the number produced for the pink or green ones?

My wallet hurts, but I have 4 gameboy SPs, 3 of which are supposedly limited. :)

There is the pokemon gba too, the mario gbsp should have had a yellowish white color like most nes's now. and have a nes controller overlay design in the control part

I thought Flame was also lmited, reminds me of metroid

i heard the famicon sp is coming out in the US by the end of the year, also some of those NES games are being released here too.

i got a gold-toned sp from TRU last x-mas for 99.99 bundled with SMB 3. im never gonna open it.

I just received the Japanese Famicom GBA SP yesterday, and I must say, it's the coolest GBA I've seen yet. The pictures don't do it justice.

The Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong cartridges are really cool too. From the packaging, to the cartridge itself, a nice little package. I doubt any of these will be nearly as cool if they ever come out here, but here's hoping. I know I'd be buying one if it had the gray/black/red color scheme of the American NES.

Money well spent, but not for the cheapasses.

Those titles were all released for the Famicom GBA SP. Mario and Donkey Kong are completely English too, so very import friendly. Not sure about Legend of Zelda.

I remember back in grade-school one of my best friends who had just moved in from Japan had one of those Famicom systems. I remember playing DragonBall on it and not knowing what the hell it was at the time.

Oh yeah, my point. I don't know why they decided to change the color scheme when they brought the NES to America. The NES, SNES and to some extent the N64 were not exactly aesthetically pleasing in my opinion; there's just too much gray and not much else. I like the design decisions they made with the GC but thats best left for another thread somewhere else.

A NES inspired SP would look worse than the platinum/black special edition they put out recently. I'd love to get one of those Famicom GBAs in addition to the black one I already have.

Good point. Maybe Nintendo was testing the waters with that horrid black/platinum GBA SP that just came out. I'm going broke from importing cool stuff, but Japanese people just seem to get way cooler video game stuff.

nintendo says the black\platinum GBA SP is for the "older audience" since many people who are buying the GBS SP are over 18.

im 25 and happy with my cobalt SP.

I think the dual color was an accident and they have to market it now.

Like the "Oops, all Crunchberries!" cereal.

If there were 3-4 GBA SPs we could have a Counter-Strike tournament to determine the winners.
Winning team gets the gameboys.

I want Gooseman and narby (a.k.a. Barney) on my team.
