Fantastic deals on DVDs, etc but... too good to be true?

So, I'm pretty cheap (or else I probably wouldn't be on this site), but I'm not stupid. Which is why when I see sites offering DVDs, etc for about $150 less than anywhere else, I'm suspicious... but interested (because I'm cheap, ok???). I always see links to these random sites on google.com and have been wondering for ages if they were for real.

The three sites I was looking at are LowCostDiscs.com, BargainVideo.com and DealsWorld.net. They seem to offer "regionless" versions of DVD sets (apparently from China) for really (unbelievably) low prices. They say that the discs play on US and all R1 players and that it has English audio.

So... what's the trick? Are these regionless DVDs illegal? Is the audio funky? Are all the titles and stuff in Chinese? Or is it for real? If I spoke any Chinese I'd check out the Chinese amazon and see if they offer this version on their site...

Of course, if they're for real, then check them out for cheap DVD sets. Some have music and games too.
These sites all sell bootlegs. Most are low quality transfers as well.
That's what I was thinking, but they all have google.com checkout, paypal checkout, and say that the discs are "factory sealed" and has lots of seals of approval, so I wasn't sure.

I suppose that anything that sounds that good can't be true, lol.

While it may be "too good to be true", I am also thinking that it may be similar to the fact that prescription drugs are much cheaper in other countries though they are made/distributed by the same companies that we get our expensive medicines from.

Therefore I wonder if there is some kind of deal in foreign markets by the same companies that produce expensive US videos. Anyone know the answer to this? Thanks!

If you been to China you can find real DVDs for cheap. I brought some at Chinese Walmart. Those are not region free, but has english audio (no english subtitle) They have actual case too (not those plastic sleeves that bootlegs use) I think converted back to US dollar they are about $2 for a DVD and a little more for a boxset.

If the disc are region free then they are probably bootleg

Bargainvideo.com does not appear to be a site.

In the case of the first site, it certainly looks like bootlegs- no box art pictured, no region coding, overly long episode runs, release discrepancies, etc. (For example, the Simpsons set... that's far beyond the US release sets. The disc count, oddly, is too high to match the US ones.)

Don't take that 'Official Overseas edition' thing seriously. Notice how they aren't saying exactly where it's 'official'- besides, lots of bootleggers try to pass their stuff off as the "Import Edition."

For the third site, they actually had some anime (My specialty) in-stock I could look at. Their stuff actually looks fine... but HORRIBLY overpriced! Akira Signature series for $30+ dollars? It shouldn't be more than $20 anywhere!

Just stick to DD, buddy- at least you know you can trust them for a legit product and a good deal.

What's DD? I can't think of any stores which would fit that acronym...
Imports are not bad at all and they arent bootleg as long as they are not copied. I buy DVD boxsets from http://www.superbdvdboxsets.com.

They have good prices and the DVD boxsets is authentic Imports. It comes in the original box. If you buy 3 or more you get free shipping.

Touting his own website, and it didn't even work. That's just funny.

Those sites are kinda like when I bought off ebay regionless (sportsnight). They came in a box with slim cases. The boxes had chinese writing on the back and they were boxes that resembled the american ones. However, the sound quality was poor and several of the disks were horribly scratched and nonfunctional. I'd avoid them for the most part. My friend also bought some (csi) and didn't have any problems that I know of. Still I'd stick to ones from the U. S.

Did you happen to see those sites on craigslist by any chance? I've seen a ton of websites selling bootlegs (of TV shows specifically). They advertise almost every day so it's a bit of a problem when their posts clog up the DVD boards.
