Thanks I hadn't known that it was a marathon. I thought they were just showing random episodes. I wish they would bring back the series. Does anyone know why it got cancelled in the first place?? I know that it had been one of the top rated shows on SciFi behind Stargate. Also, did thye cancel Tremors the series. That show was kind of stupid, but it made me laugh :).

It was a cost thing. It was their most popular shows, and IMO one of the best shows on TV, but it was also very expensive for them. They looked at the numbers and decided the cost wasn't worth the return.

so that was it? What idiots work at SciFi channel. So you're telling me that Stargate isn't expensive but Farscape. one of the best shows and they got rid of it. Wow. Akbar, do you know what the word is on Tremors the series or Tripping the Rift?

do you know what the word is on Tremors the series or Tripping the Rift?

I would bet that those shows are gone since Sci-fi seems to be focusing on Stargate and even made the new atlantis crap, but who knows.

Farscape was indeed one of the best shows on TV and its cancellation was a damn shame.

And the reason it was cancelled is not as cut n dry as Vivendi would like to make it. The President has been quoted saying that he doesn't like science fiction and wanted to take the SCI-FI channel in another direction - hence all of the new ghost shows. :puke:

I don't think either Temors or tripping did well.

Starget gets some of their best ratings. But what helps Stargate is that it's also in syndication. They tried to syndicate Farscape after cancellation but it didn't work out.

I still find it funny that the Lost world is in syndication.

But I believe Farscape had a much larger budget and cost more than Stargate does.

Here's Sci Fi's official stance...

'After a long period of silence, the US Sci Fi Channel's President, Bonnie Hammer, has given the channel's reasons for axing Farscape.

Speaking to TV Guide Online, she said: "We never wanted to cancel it... The ratings had softened, and it was getting increasingly expensive to produce. We just couldn't make the financial deal. But we never wanted it to end when it ended. We had all intentions of doing 13 more episodes."

Bonnie explained that Sci Fi did consider producing a series finale: "We looked at all the options. But with the speed in which it would have had to be done - because the set had to be broken down and the cast had to come back and the scripts weren't written - [the cost] would have been enormous... If all of those incredible fans who wrote in and sent notes and flowers and [whatnot] had actually watched it every week, we would have been able to do the 22," she huffed.

Bonnie added that the reason it has decided to continue with Stargate: SG1, but not Farscape is simply due to ratings and the style of the show:

"Even though Stargate is sci-fi, it's very broad sci-fi. It's not serialised. Every episode, you can come to it whether you've watched the one before. They are self-contained... Farscape, on the other hand, got very, very serialised. It got very 'in' ... They had brilliant and sophisticated writing, but it was so narrow that it basically was an invitation to not tune in if you weren't totally familiar with the show."'

I think what also helped Stargate is that it was on a typically weak night, Friday, when most folks go out. Wasn't it first a HBO show, if my memory servews me correctly/

I would believe it that Tripping and Tremmors didn't do so well as they should becuause for Tripping the Rift, the constantly shifted it and for Tremors they never gave it a chance. They seem to be willing to give Atlantis a chance though.

Idiots who know nothing of SciFi should not run a channel devoted to just that, SciFi. I never thought that Farscape was that expensive since the sets look cheaper than the ones on Stargate or Atlantis for that matter now. From all the fansites I have been too, it actually shows that farscape was decingly getting a larger fanbase and was SciFi's number 1 show followed by Stargate. That channel seem to be going downhill.

As I recall, the real reason was that SciFi couldn't own the show like with pretty much everything they show now. The Henson company retained the rights to it and SciFi didn't like not having control.

That channel seem to be going downhill.

Word

And I could care less what Vivendi says after screwing over everyone involved with the show after promising 2 more seasons.

And I do agree that Farscape was probably expensive to create, but what do you expect when you have good companies like Henson creating your show? The production values on Farscape surpass most anything I have seen on TV. I will take Henson making my aliens and creatures any day over whoever the hell they have making the fake looking aliens over for Stargate.
