favorite PS2 rpg?

I used to love rpg's i was a die hard rpg gamer in the days of ps1, now that i've gotten my ps2 (2 years) i haven't really played any rpg's. But if I had to say i would probably say ffx if they would make a new chrono cross game i would love it!

So if too ppl said Shadow Hearts, then I'm guessing it's good? My EB has it and I'm going back there tommorow, a response tonight would be nice.

No, it's obvious that the only two people in the world who liked this game happened to post on this thread.

the battle system is pretty good for S Hearts where you attack on a circular grid kind of like the Legend of Dragoon's sytem and uses different genes to morph into dragons etc..also like the BOF series its one of the very good underated RPG's out there IMO.

Xenosaga rocks (still playing it).
Can't wait to get Disgaea (next on my list).

BTW, where can I get Disgaea on the cheap?

All kidding aside: Nowhere.

unh ok.

Xboxmaster, give it a try. It's not really well known, I would've never heard of it if my cousin didn't tell me about it. You won't be disappointed.

Kingdom Hearts. I haven't had that much fun with an RPG since the SNES days, and that counts a LOT of greats in the 32/64bit days. It could be the connection to my childhood inherent in the Disney characters, or the rewind of Square characters, but either way it felt like a flashback to the 16bit days.

Wild Arms 3. Great old-school style RPG - I'm patiently waiting for Sony to announce US release dates for the two new games in the series. :)

OOOO man i am pretty disappointed for RPG's on the PS2 i played alot but only stuck with a coupld i liked:

Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts

Other then those 2 i didnt like any other RPG...
arc the lad...hands down, best story ive seen on the ps2 and i loved the battle system
Same here. Great battle system, and a good story. Even a better game if you played through Arc 1, 2 & 3.

I might pick up Shadow Hearts today, matters what other cheap games they have. But if I don't like it, I'm gonna hunt you down and who knows what...

I also vouch for Shadow Hearts. If you don't like it, I'll be waiting for you w/ a shotgun once you "hunt" me down. The hunter will become the hunted... Haha

I concur.

I never had the chance to buy it when I went back. Actually, I did, but I didn't wanna pay, I think it was $25, for it.

Arc the Lad? Story? Are you nuts?

My fav. at the moment would have to be Dark Cloud, just out of the sheer mass of stuff to do. I've played DC2 almost twice as long as any other PS2 RPG.

nope, it was a good story and the way it was presented was amazing

Shadow Hearts is definitely cool. I'm hoping the sequel gets picked up for North American release, as it was well-reviewed in Japan and looks awesome. Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is definitely one of the more impressive PS2 RPGs out there as well, and you can probably find it really cheap right now (even though I paid full price! Damn!). Other than that there's the obvious ones, but I also found Tsugunai to be an interesting, generally underrated game. Might be a little tougher to find that one, though.

My favorite PS2 RPGs are FFX and Wild Arms 3. I'd like to find a cheap copy of Shadow Hearts in my area, but the lowest price I've found is $24.99 (with no case and instructions, plus the disc was scratched up).

For turn-based, FFX. Action, Kingdom Hearts. I loved it and still need to pick it up!!! I also just got Xenosaga, might dethrone FFX, but I doubt it. It's just average from what I've played so far.

I haven't really played any of the ones that I have gotten, but I have quite a few stocked up that I'm gonna play once I'm out of school for the summer. But I'd say that Final Fantasy X is the best one that I've played. It was either that or Dark Cloud.

BAH, 25 bucks is a mere pittance compared to what it's worth in terms of story, uniqueness (is that even a word? Oh well, it is now! ^^), and more! Some of the later songs you hear can rival that of FF's Nobuo Uematsu's IMO. I looooooove this game to death, in fact I'm in the final duegon and I've been there for over a year. I still lvl up ocasionally, but I'm more than powerful enough to defeat the final boss. However, I just want to wait until the sequal comes out, so the awesome (I hope) ending can stay fresh in my mind. It's def. among my top 5, however, I think PS1 RPGs are really the true masterpieces. ^_~

Been looking for a cheap place to pick up Shadow Hearts for cheap, other than EBAY.

Other than that i am fairly dissapointed with the RPG's on Ps2 also. Many good, but no great.

So i'll give a 4 way tie to:
Wild Arms 3
Suikoden 3
Xenosaga 1
Final Fantasy X
BTW shadow hearts is coming to america, i think it was picked up by Midway a few days ago.
We're still getting Shadow Hearts 2?

Yes, I saw that post as well. To quote Randall's mail-order husband from the Clerks Animated Series: "I am pleased!"

Final Fantasy X
Xenosaga
Kingdom Hearts
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2
.hack 1 2 3 and 4
Champions of Norrath (Hack and Slash RPG)

Theses are my favorites in no particular order.

Robotic Alchemic Drive...not exactly traditional rpg but it has lots of rpg elements, character growth, branching storylines, upgrading weapons/equipment and so forth.

r1s3n

Dark Cloud 2 and FFX by far... dont understand what the big deal on Xenosaga was, I thought it was bland and boring.
