The Extraction part of FEAR files is actually pretty good. The Perseus Mandate is so-so. Extraction is a direct continuation of the main FEAR storyline. Perseus Mandate is a side story with a new character. I would recommend both, but make sure you play them before FEAR 2. FEAR 2 is such an upgrade it will be hard to go back to the originals.

The 2 expansions were considered to be not part of the main storyline because they were made by someone else.
It's got everything to do with the story.

Extraction is fun, although everybody dies. If you haven't played the original game, I'd suggest skipping it as it's extremely overrated IMO. It's an ok shooter, but it's not particularly scary and the way the story is told is a joke. If you just have to pick it up, you can get a used copy of the PC version for next to nothing.

I actually do own the PC version, but I'm an achievement whore. I also thought it might add a little more excitement to an older game via unlocking them. And my PC is in the fritz.
