FFXII CE $30 at GS

FFXII rules, but the first couple of hours are like wtf is up with this combat system. once you get over that it is definately worth playing.

Generic characters, a boring story and an awful battle system. Not worth $40. But it's good that the OP posted this anyway for anyone who is interested.

Well, damn, paid $60 for it, but was able to return/repurchase when they had the $50 sale on BF. Too late to do that again ;). Of course, I have yet to play it (or even open it). But it might be my next RPG (still on Rogue Galaxy now and my Elite + Super Paper Mario has distracted me from that). I ought to play it before it is availble on clearance for $5...

there was that whole toyrus sale back in november/december where they sold it for like 25? a piece...and i loved the game :(

I paid 60 when it came out (hell, I reserved it, even without there being any benefit!) and I don't feel bad for it.It certainly wasn't as limited as I thought it would be, but having it for that 6 months before this price drop makes it ok for me.

Wow, I also thought that this was supposed to be a limited release. I had no idea they still sold them brand new!

Is the extra DVD worth it? I actually have the metal case that my friend gave to me, without the DVD or the game, of course. I was planning on snatching one up when it falls to $19.99 (GH pricing) as all FF games do.
I was at Gamstop today, saw the Collector's edition used for $34.99.
Well, I know what my third game for my buy 2, get 1 sale :p

By the way, people really have to start learning the difference between Limited Edition & Collectors Edition.

Um, OK, except if you read reviews or previews about this from places like IGN, you would see that most, if not all, of the articles that talked about the release of FF XII and mentioned the CE said that it would be a limited run. Also, if you talked to people who worked at GS/EB, they also said the same (although they might not always be clear on their facts...) Besides, things like this Collector's Edition and Limited Edition are almost synonymous.

& I thought I was good for waiting a bit & snagging this at the $50 mark.
Now it's @ $40??
I wonder if they still have sealed copies leftover - or perhaps these are the new gutted games that no one wants.

I was at a Gamestop Tuesday, and they had two sealed copies of the collector's edition in stock. I think he also mentioned something about it being $40, though I thought I misheard.

Also, a bunch of the stores in my area show that they're getting more new copies, so it seems as if there are still quite a few left over.

I'd like to see some citations as to this being limited in any fasion. I don't remember anyone, at any point thinking this was going to be limited in any fasion. Hell, when I took preorders on it, I (along with the entire store) made it very clear to everyone that this version is not limited in any way, shape, or form. I even made the right perdiction that the regular version might end up being the rarier of the two (which is was for the first weeks of it's release).

For future reference, Collector's Editions are just snazzier versions of the same game, where as Limited editions are just that, limited to a finite amount at the descretion of the publisher and as such, are limited to far fewer supply than the regular edition.

depending on the game, for say Tekken 5 CE that wasn't just a snazzier version included arcade stick, and CE case as well. CD or limited if you have one down the road it'lll be worth something. ;)

Collector's=Special, different from the regular, with extras. Limited=everything Collector+limited run of copies.

Here you go, second paragraph: http://ps2.ign.com/objects/838/838049.html

I've read it before at other places before the game was released, as well, but I'm not going to try finding things I read so many months ago. Plus, I was also told by a GS employee that it was going to be limited, so different stores were probably told different things. Anyway, what I'm alluding to is the fact that many things, not just games, labelled and sold as Collector's Edition things are limited releases.

Engrossing characters, a truly epic story and an awesome battle system (the only system that might give FFX-2's system a run for it's money). Well worth the $34.99.

ah same here, paid $60 when it came out, didnt even open it. this was the second game i preordered (i pre-o mgs2 sons of liberty at tru). they say its "limited edition" but its not limited print. they have as much as they wanted but they probably did a few hundred thousand copies of it thinking it will sell for $60 :).

they get what they deserve now that its $20 less new cause the game is mediocre.

Last Final Fantasy game I will probably get, I find the serie really stale now. Damn hype, I always buy into the hype, no more, no more sir.
Eh, hype or not, I always seem to enjoy them a whole lot. More than most games, at least...so as long as they keep 'em coming i'll shell out for 'em
Darn! They didn' t give you 20% off the LE guide when you purchased the game?!
No the allure of the guide didn't call out to me until 2 days after I purchased the game. Since I didn't buy them at the same time, I never got the 20% off and I was too lazy to make an argument.

Pricematch plus ggc @ BB equals $31
Too bad its Gamestop exclusive
Too bad it's also a flawed idea from the start. You can't PM and use a GGC and just because you've gotten away with it doesn't mean you can actually suggest that it's a method for getting a certain price. It's beyond YMMV, it's YMSE (Shouldn't Exist).

To top it all off, the GGCs were pulled and haven't been around for months. MONTHS.

Also, Best Buy has the standard edition for $40 anyway.

ANOTHER flaw in the idea is that you don't get the 110% pricematch discount until after you return with your purchase. That would mean buying the game for $35 after coupon and then going back and pricematching to $40. ;) Even if BEst Buy still charged $50, it would be pricematching $45AC to $40 and only saving $0.50 instead of the $1 you'd save having never used the coupon.

Eh? Eh? GGCs were pulled? Says who?

So I finally purchased this game yesterday for $34.99 used at EB Games (not the collectors edition because they didn't have them). Now let me say that this game isn't for everyone. The battle system is very world of warcraft ish, and you gain talents kinda like you would in world of warcraft. It is almost like a MMO that is singleplayer mixed in with the classic FF style. Although I only put about 2 hours into it, I am loving the game so far and this is easily my 2nd favorite FF story (IX is my favorite), and it feels good to enjoy another FF game on my console again (I hated X and I hated the gameplay and really disliked the story).

Is the strategy guide worth the $20 though, I don't want to spend $20 on a fucking game guide, but I might have to because this game is that indepth and I hate reading FAQ's because it takes awhile to find where the hell everything is because of text only, so is it worth it?

their problem is they cant get rid of the last few copies because they're gutted, and the cases have been tossed around and scratched to hell. What kind of "collector" would want to spend an extra 10 bucks on a beat up copy?

I bought my CE off ebay, along with the LE guide (both new) for about 60 after shipping, i think. not too bad, considering how recently this was (no more deliveries of new CE copies to GS and they were also out of LE books. I'm just upset I got the Vaan cover. Ugh.)
