Due to the failure of my sense of humor, I wanted to make a fighting thread with lotsa GGXX related adjectives because I found it amusing. I threw the 2000 and Wan in at the end because everything sounds cooler when you yell "2001" after a statement and point upwards.

Hokuto no Ken's release is still way too far away. That and VF5 ensure that my academic career will turn into a ruin. Can't wait.

On that note, what fighting games are you guys looking forward to the most? We almost never have a question so simple, so I'm kinda curious.

Tekken 6 will be the sweet spot for me, with Virtua Fighter 5 comming in second. Game Informer said they have a create a fighter in VF5, but I'm guessing they confused it with character customization.
Best "Fighting Thread" title, ever. :D
I've got an even better one for thread #21. Though some people might get kinda pissy about it.

Haha, thanks Chacrana for making such a cool and awesome thread title, actually made me smile.

Haha, though it'll just be another balancing update and not much else, I'm always looking forward to Guilty Gear Accent Core to the umpteenth power.

And yeah... Hokuto no Ken is such a long ways off... T.T, so with Card Fighters for DS.

Chacrana - Is this the first fighting thread you made? Guess you popped your cherry.

Since I just modded my PS2 I'm looking forward to playing some games that never came out here. Neo Geo BC, Rumble Fish, etc.
In case anyone is wondering, Play-Asia has a greatest hits type version (I assume) of Vampire Darkstalkers Collection for PS2 coming out on December 14th at only $19.90! Glad I waited on that one and didn't bite when it was on sale for $35.

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40-49-en-15-vampire+collection-70-1mhw.html
I can see the sales pitch now:

"Yes, you can see the evolution of Morrigan's sprite for the low low price of $19.90"

Nice thread title, although I wish you coulda found a way to fit the # (20 I believe) into it. Perhaps get rid of "2000 and Wan!!" and replace it with 2001, and then you'd have room for the thread #. Not really a big deal, just a nit-picky thing :booty:

Looking forward to nothing really. I guess KoFXII.

I heard the Fist of the North Star fighter is broken as shit (combos into kill moves, multiple infinites etc...) so I'm not really looking forward to that an I'm not going to play another Guilty Gear (ie: Accent Core) until they re-do the sprites or significantly shake-up the roster (fuck paying money for some fucking bullshit ass changes that are only really needed for true top level tournament players).

No new Capcom fighter (probably EVER) makes me want to laydown and cry.

Getting a little jaded :oldman: with the fighter genre, to be honest. Feels like I've played SO many that I need something completely different and incredible (ie Tekken 5, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike) or something under the radar that happens to be excellent (only example I can really think of is Breakers/Breakers Revenge).

Guess I'll just continue to play MvC2, CvS2 and 3s casually, and try to take UMK semi-seriously.

Took care of the # for you. I couldn't take out the 2000 and Wan because the sheer awesomeness of the statement refused to let me do it.

nice title. a fighting game maker couldn't do a better job themselves.

looking forward to most-- guess Fist of the North Star even though it's quite a ways off. even then I may not end up buying it cause i probably won't get that into it.

and once I get a ps3, VF5 and Tekken 6 will be mine!

Start with rumble fish... it's very refreshing to play, at least graphiclly.

I played it in Tokyo, and I really enjoyed it. But I've been dying to play Neo Geo BC. I think I'll pick that one up first.
The Battle of Yu Yu Hakushou (new arcade YYH being port to PS2)
Was that game any good? I never really heard much about it...

the thread title inspired me. if I make a fighting game, it'll be called "Noun Noun: Adjective Adjective Adjective Roman Numeral 2000"

I am still looking forward to Tekken 6 and Virtua Fighter 5. Though I hope they don't convince me to drop $600 on PS3 anytime soon :)
Do local Costco's know how many they're gettin' now? I'm gonna do the Costco thing as well. :crosses fingers:
supposedly it's 40 units per store, and they're all bundles.
Any more word on the SNK franchises going to the Wii?
not that I know of.

but imagine if they tried to incorporate some Wii-mote controls into a 2-D Kof game, like they did with Metal Slug. like instead of QCF on a d-pad, you had to a QCF motion with the wiimote, then stab forward for a kick or punch. If you stab up, it's punch, down for kick. up-left for hard punch, down-left for hard kick. to jump, you'd have to hold the wii-mote level, then push it forward. but all other regular movement could be done with the d-pad. the buttons of the wii-mote could be for various taunts.

that would probably beat ET for worst game ever

I wouldn't even bother trying to learn that control system. I'm still trying to get 720s off with consistency on a pad or a stick. If I had to try some helicoptor move to get that off I might throw my back out. I'm not as young as I used to be!

I once had a dream that I was playing Virtua Fighter 2 with the Wii-mote . Seem to work fine.

I've been reading these fighting threads for awhile now and must say you guys sure do know your stuff ,hell of a lot more then me thats for sure.

Anyway I have a question? I've been wanting to import some ps2 fighters but don't have a mod ps2 or a jap ps2. I've been kind of thinking of buying a japanese ps2 instead of adding a flip top(wahtever there called)cause I don't really want to risk messing up my ps2 or anything ,but have been told that there really isn't any risk of damageing the ps2. So should I buy a japanese ps2 or just mod the damn thing? Kind of a stupid question but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:)

I would install the flip-top bro. It's extremely easy and quite awesome. iIt's really the only way to go if you're a fighter fan.

Unrelated - Why the hell does Power Stone Collection have to be on PSP? 360 woulda been awesome, but I would take even PS2 or regular Xbox over PSP. Hell, I'd take Gamecube.
(Just want to note that I do own a PSP and plan on buying it, just wish they woulda put it on a different format)

i'm borderline retarded and i modded a fliptop on my slim ps2..

i wouldn't say that there's NO risk, but i would say that there's a very small amount of risk involved. i even fucked up and dropped my ps2 with the casing off and all the innards exposed, and everything still worked out perfectly (though i wouldn't recommend doing that shit, ever).

my suggestion would be to make a list of games you want to import first, before you actually go through and mod your system, because i have a lot of friends who jumped on the mod-wagon and ended up not playing anything except gg slash (which, to them, didn't turn out to be life-changing like they thought it would be).

the slide card is pretty safe I'd say. But I'm not sure if the actual card is even worth 5 dollars, it's a thin flimsy piece of plastic. Well, f you're using the card, the only installation type work you would have to do is to unscrew the face plate of the cd drive [the small plate with the adjustable PS logo] then you're good to go. Though I admit, the actual process of sliding is pretty ghetto compared to the fliptop, but it's just as effective and a little safer. But I doubt there is much more risk if you decide to go with the flip top.

Does the slim-line PS2 still have the two-sided tape method for modding? I think I want to upgrade to a Slim PS2 (my current PS2s laser is dying) but i would prefer to not have to pay for another flip-top.

Any idea if this method still works, and if so, anyone have a link for instructions on doing it?

After many good years my launch PS2 is starting to feel the effects of constant usage. It's starting to have trouble playing blue disc games. Especially Tekken Tag which I just bought in the CC clearance. So I'm thinking about getting the slim line PS2 when the price drops again. At least one benefit is that the slim line PS2 is easier to play imports with.

How's it unrelated? this is the fighting thread ;)

If they did put Powerstone on a home console, then it would have to be a sequal. Porting to portables is cheaper and more logical than porting an older game previously on a home console to a new home console would make some people cross eyed. Plus, the XBLA rules from MS would probably prevent it from happening due to size limitations.

I'm still waiting for an anouncement on rival schools/project justice... thats the last DC fighter I need Capcom to port to something. If anything, they could at least make an anime for us :(

From what I've read, Powerstone isn't a good fit for the PSP. There's too much chaos going especially when you get four players going at it. That being said, I still want to get it! If it has game sharing, I'll get it this month. If not, I'll wait for clearance.

How was Power Stone 2? I know of some who enjoyed it, but I hear alot of negativety towards it as well... was it radically different from the first or something?

BTW, Happy Halloween to everyone in the fighting thread!:D

Honestly I'm not to intrested in the Power Stone Collection. I don't know many people who own a PSP so there'd be no multiplayer. And Power Stone without multiplayer is like eating macaroni & cheese without the cheese.

The main difference between PS1 and PS2 (powerstone... not playstation!):

PS1 rounds were won by the better player whereas PS2 the rounds were so random, it really didn't matter who won... pretty much everybody was going to die... not to mention the screen was always too cluttered at times. PS1 is the way to go personally. PS2 had alot more content though, but I can't say much else.

Well, I haven't played powerstone 1, but powerstone two. Let's just say it's not a really deep game. Whoever can pick up the powerstones first and transforms pretty much wins the game because there's no real way to dodge the special attacks. It's pretty much a two button game. It'll probably tend to get repetetive and despite the sheer amount of items [though you'll have to spend a lot of time unlocking/generating them]. It's just a kill frenzy. As RR said, no skill needed to win.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. But it fits more into the party masher category. Kinda like a Smash Brothers with items on at high frequency minus dodging/rolling.

Make it a point to play PS1 with someone... I still have a blast with that, but I can't stand it when friends of mine force me to play PS2 with them instead >_
Hmm, I don't know anyone who had PS1 and I don't have a PSP, but I'll try to find someone. I'd say it looked pretty fun. I remember I would play powerstone 2 with my friends, they were all into it. But after 2 or three rounds it was out of the Dreamcast.

Haha, this kinda reminds me of how Guilty Gear Isuka turned out. I think the one-on-one formula has stayed true throughout the ages and should never be altered lest people want a 4 player mashingfest.
forgot to mention I played GG Isuka last night (my free copy)... geeze. I'm surprised at how one button can ruin a whole game...
