So, the game comes out next week. Anyone else excited? PSM gave the game a 9.5/10 and IGN just gave the game a 9.0, stating:

9.0 Presentation
The exploration of Ivalice is beautifully handled thanks to the extra content and cutscenes to bring you into the story.
8.5 Graphics
The classic 2D sprites are supported by incredible cutscenes and improved animations, although they suffer from frequent slowdown.
8.5 Sound
Voice acting is great, and sound effects are nice as well, although the synched delay interferes with the experience.
9.0 Gameplay
New missions, new multiplayer modes and new job classes improve this title significantly. Too bad slowdown returns and multiplayer isn't fully balanced.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
War of the Lions is one of the most deep titles around, and with the additional content added, you'll have tons of replayability with this game.

OVERALL = 9.0 (Not an Average)

I can't wait. PSP really has some awesome SRPGs this year. I own it on PS1, but I'm still going to buy it on PSP, with the extra features.

I thought they fixed the slowdown in the USA and European ports? Are they maybe basing this review on an import version? Slowdown is supposed to be reduced to a level that anybody who doesn't do a side-by-side comparison would never notice.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just run it off my Memory Stick and set my PSP to 333 mhz. Fixes most slowdown and loading problems (This is of course if you have Custom Firmware).

That has been confirmed to not work with the Japanese version. The slowdown is within the code (Square's excuse for not being able to fix it), nothing a Memory Stick or CPU multiplier tweak can fix.

Jeez, my view of Square just diminshed. Their last few games just seem rushed and unfinished (FFXII International and the Japanese FFT:TLW). Hopefully the US release of FFT:TLW will change my opinion.

FFT is my second favorite game of all time, so I cannot waiiiiiiiiiittt. It makes me really sad that most people remember this game for a few goofy lines in the translation and not for being utterly brilliant in all other aspects, so I'm hoping that the script this time shuts everyone up.

Pending reviews of the VS mode, I'm getting my girlfriend a PSP so we can quit our jobs and just play this until 5 AM every night.

I make poor decisions!!

ah, this game and ffvii. there goes 300-400 hours of my life i will never get back. then again what else was there to do 10 years ago when you're 13.

Further evidence that RPG owners should forgo all the consoles for the next year or so and get acquainted with the PSP and DS. Best of all, the future only looks brighter for them, with DQIX and FFIV DS on the horizon.

This is the reason I got my PSP. My only hang up right now is that I have only found it for $40. WAY too much for a handheld game. If anyone knows where to find it cheaper, please let me know :).

Handheld games are the future! *Huggles his white DS lite and silver PSP slim*

I want FF Tactics, but since I beaten it before a long while back and I never played the original Disgaea (I own the sequel, Makai Kingdom, and Phantom Brave), I'm going to wait out on this, and see what others have to say about the "slowdowns". I'm sure its not that bad. Can't be as horrible as Spectral Souls.

I thought 1up said that they fixed the slowdown. To me that's a small price to pay for a game thats pretty much guaranteed to be awesome. Wish I had a PSP...

I'm very excited for this. I enjoyed the original release way back when it first came out and another run-through would be a blast. I'm not going to get it for $40 though, I've got to find a sale somewhere.

I'm really tempted on purchasing another PSP (sold my first one for a DS Lite) for this along with Dracula X, and Disgaea.

Tactics is ranked in my top 5 PSone games.

I cannot wait to strip that one sephiroth looking guy of all his genji armor again! OMG that took so long!

Im looking forward to lvling the new classes, especially the dark knight. :D

Basically new to FF in general. Is this just a remake (PS1?) of the remake (GBA?)? I held off the GBA version because of my backlog and saw FF being slowly ported to the PSP as well as the DS.

The only FF I've played so far is FFVI on the GBA on my DSL. Has good word of mouth here so I picked it up. Good story, but it's a bit tedious with all of the random battles as you're going from location to location. I only got halfway done before I moved onto other games. I have FFIII for the DS, but am a bit leary based on my experience with FFVI on the GBA.

Sounds like FFT is a long term commitment. ;)

Its a remake of the PSone title, and it blows the GBA version out of the water.

Oh and the Europe version is out and people are reporting the slowdown are same as the Japanese version

PSP is starting to finally kick the crap out of the DS in terms of quality games. The DS is just getting SOOOOO much damn shovelware.
I assume this game will sport a new fancy translation that may actually not suck this time around?
That's my biggest hope. I'm not the biggest FFT fan but I finished it twice and still have no idea who the bad guys are and why the hell things are happening.

If they fix the translation then the story I made up as I went probably won't make any sense anymore :(

I don't know what's up with all these "ifs" regarding a new translation - it's already been confirmed (and thank god for that bit of news). The IGN review also mentions that a few skill names have been changed, which will take a little getting used to for people like me who played until they maxed out the game clock in the original.

I can't wait this is the one of the reasons I bought my psp. I am glad to hear about a new translation when I was a kid I had no clue what was going on in the game but what is the deal with all this slow down stuff?

The words "3rd party" and "Nintendo" are a recipe for disaster...

Thats all I have to say.

Tactics is somewhere in my top five all-time favorite games. I remember when I lived in Japan when it came out over there. A friend of my bought the japanese version and we played it without knowing anything about the job/class system really (and of course, the story). So I had an army of characters without secondary jobs. I actually managed to get to chapter 3 (where you fight Wiegraf 1-on-1) and couldn't get further than that.

Years later when we moved back to the states, this was the first game I pre-ordered and everything made so much sense in english. Anyway next week, I'm picking up a PSP (hopefully the white one :)) and this game. The redesign and the slew of awesome games coming out pretty much decided for me. 2007 has been an awesome year for handheld gaming, and a bad one for my poor, poor wallet .

Got it a few days ago. Once I finnish J D'ark I will be playing the hell out of this title. Its my most wanted for PSP this year.

howd you get it so early?
howd you get it so early?
Yeah, not buying that.
I too however am playing Jeanne D'Arc , but I'll be putting that down for quite a while when I pick my copy up.

....has ANYONE found it for less than 40 at a B&M yet?!
I mean, it's worth the 40, but still... *points to web address bar*

gonna wait for toyrsus b2g1 i guess,.... prolly gonna get jdarc, fft x2 (1 for ebay. already sold one, will buy from BB, ship.... Refund it with the one from TRU)
i still dont have my PSP anyway :p ...... gonna finish phantom hourglass first

I think it's out on the torrents.

People on Gamefaqs are brewing up a massive shitstorm over slowdown. I'm not saying that everyone who currently owns it downloaded it but if you did, your right to complain is revoked.

Apparently this game came out in Europe a few days ago. Of course, I don't know where BREVITY lives, but yeah, just some food for thought. xD

Yeah... Not gonna happen. I believe he has "Maintenance" this time around and you can't steal the Genji gear.

o yea, forgot that europe gets it first this time and people torrenting.

The best bet to get the game cheap is either 10% off at a gs/eb or other bm store coupons. I wished there were promos that came with this game....even a key chain or lanyard would have worked
