Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
So is this game worth the $30?

I'm hesitant because I played FFTA and didn't like that one very much, is this one a lot better?
if you never played FFT, then go play this. It's still the best FF game and plot I've ever come across... all other FFs are trash to me when comparing to this. The FFA games are a sad departure and "kiddie" version of the original. The original was very political and dark driven.

I've played it so much I can't get this game unless it's $20 or under... missed out on deal, but I can wait.

I just need vagrant story now.

Never played FFT, just Advance and yeah...that was quite a letdown.

I want a new PSP game, so since this is $30 I was considering it. Guess I will grab it. :)

Get Final Fantasy Tactics!! FFTA is horrible compare to FFT. I hope Square enix would release Front Mission 3 on PSP, that would be great. FM4 was pretty bad compared to FM3 too.

got it off amazon. i ordered a few other things and needed something to get free shipping. since i was on the fence about buying it , i just grabbed it to get the free shipping

Shipping on my 4 other items was 9.87 if i didnt get my order over 25

so i could say i got this game for 21.13 LOL

What did you think of Front Mission DS?

Is it blasphemous that I like Jeanne d'Arc more than I like FFT? The cutscenes are beautiful but the battle system feels clunky compared to d'Arc.

Well the game is about 10 years old now. How is Jeanne D'arc compared to FFT anyways? I read that the Jeanne is way too easy.

It really doesn't take much grinding at all to get your characters to Lv. 99 (well at least the 5 or so characters you choose to primarily use. I used Jeanne, Gilles, Richard, Colet, and Marcet).

You don't even need to get your characters in Jeanne d'Arc to Level 99 to beat the game. It's not about the difficulty when comparing the two anyway. FFT looks and feels older. They're both good games but Jeanne d'Arc has a better battle system.

i still cant decide if i want to pick this up or not. i tried the ff tactics advance on the gba but never got far cause it did bore me a bit. but i do need a new game tho. cant decide what game to get.
Will you eventually get used to the camera angles? I've tried to play this game but the camera was realllly annoying.
For such a great game, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. The slowdown takes a lot longer to get used to then the bad camera.

Why does everyone compare the two? Besides the names, they are pretty different. FFT is the pinnacle of Strategy RPGs, FFTA is trash.
im not comparing the 2, its just the 2 tactical strategy games i know of on the psp.
Jeanne D' Arc is great, but FFT is the best out there if you didn't play it on the PS1.

FFT is freakin DEEP. I love it, though honestly I did wish it was a full remake instead of an enhanced port, or heck even a sequel. The game at first irked me about the slowdowns but, after a while I got addicted and it didn't bother me so much (that and turning on UMD Caching seemed to make some difference). Multiplayer has to be a big draw for the game also, it gives you more reasons for "maxing" out your characters rather than just for showing off. Though I'm still early in the game, I might restart again. I didn't take the game too seriously the first time I played it on the PSX, but now I'm really looking deep into the game mechanics like brave/faith and how jobs affect stat growth at level up.

Also for anyone who bought the official strategy guide, how is it? I thought about getting it for use and for collector's item, and also when I'm away from internet access (ie. GameFAQs).

EDIT: Oh is there any way to rename your starting soldier's names? I figured if I'll stick with them, I'd like to name them...

I like the guide. It's (from what I remember) very similar to the original PSX version guide but with coverage for all the new stuff as well. Beautiful artwork all through it. I rarely (never?) buy guides at full price but after flipping through this at the store, I couldn't resist.

I don't remember if you can change their names. I know I had a girl named Apple in my PSX save so I'm thinking I never figured out how to change names.

You can't rename characters. The only time you can set a name is when you are first recruiting the scrubs at the Warrior's Guild, or whatever it's called now. If you have time to kill, you can keep entering/exiting to get peeps who have 70 Brave/Faith. All it costs you is time. And money, once you decide to hire them.
