Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings out now ~~ CAG says: too expensive!

Meh. I never thought I'd say it but I have too many RPG/strategy games at the moment. Off the top of my head I'm trying to eventually finish...

DS - Etrien Odyssey, Final Fantasy III

PSP - Final Fantasy, Disgaea, Jenne D'Arc, Riviera

then there's the backlog of GBA games that haven't gotten the attention they deserve. Hopefully this title will be around long enough to drop under $20 at Kmart or something.
hope its nothing like heroes of mana

also dont count on amazon most people just got burned on the Joker game.
For once, listen to slidecage. I won't be preordering games from Amazon anymore.

$40? what the fuck? So now we pay extra for the final fantasy name? I could kinda understand $40 for III since it was using a heavy 3D engine and had CG, but this is ridiculous.

anyway, I heard this plays like a castrated version of XII (very easy and watered down), so I'm gonna wait on reviews.
Might warrent a purchase @ $20. I still have to beat FF XII. I'm not sure where I left off tho.
Unfortunately, I'm on the last (most confusing?) dungeon... and I stopped playing for two months. Damn!!! SO CLOSE! Now I'm going to have to remember how to play the damn game.

I don't pay $40 for any DS games. It's policy.

I thought the gameplay was like a rts or something

i'm excited about this game, but $40 is just way too much for a ds game. I hope there is a demo out for this

In my opinion, 40 dollars is way too hefty of a price tag.
I have yet to finish 12, but being at the Pharos Tower shouldnt be that much to finish the game.

Hey, FFIII got the uber price cut from TRU last year so heres hoping they do it again. One day of this @ $20 would fucking rock.

Okay everyone, hold your breath......... now!

Man I just racked up 2 $25 GC's from TRU SMG.

I'm wondering if I should splurge this on FFXII:RW or pick up Phantom Hourglass + another cheap game.

OR

Should I get a 360/ps3 game!!???

The choices are killing me!!!

Square's being rather greedy lately with DQM and this game's pricing. Doesn't seem to be much buzz about it at all, so it'll probably end up hurting them in the end.

I have this preordered at Gamecrazy but will probably cancel it. For one, I have yet to play FF XII and it seems like that is probably something I should do first. Also, I did just start playing DQMJ. That is all the DS game I need right now (I've found myself playing the DS only very sporadically now and the PSP not at all).

By the time I ever got around to playing this it will be a CC clearance game . I learned my lesson with any number of other DS titles the last 2 years that sit here unopened.
I was looking foward to the game, but the mediocre review scores are swaying me away from it.
8.3 from IGN--

http://ds.ign.com/articles/837/837090p1.html

I haven't bothered to read any other reviews, but it sounds pretty cool to me.

But I need to finish FFXII someday, so by that time the price will undoubtedly have dropped on FFXII:RW. $40 is WAY too much!

Nobody has this yet? I want to grab it with my SMG gift card, but since the reviews are questionable, I'm waiting for opinions on here. As much as I'd love to be the lab rat for this one, I don't have enough time to give anyone solid early impressions.

My gf got it for me at buy.com for $28.99 shipped (after applying the GC discount that is). Just got confirmation that it shipped, so it should be here by the end of next week. Can't wait to try it out.

Cool. I'm looking forward to some early spoiler-free impressions.

I absolutely loved FFXII, but I'm forcing myself to choose between this and DQM:J. I'll drop a not-so-subtle hint and hopefully get the other for Christmas.

very early impressions (after a half hour of play, which was all tutorials): it's like FFXII with a touch screen and some rudimentary Windows mechanics, which makes it more of an RTS. FFXII already has kind of a RTS/MMO feel to it anyway, but the overhead view, scrolling maps, and complete control over your party makes it more so. But it isn't strict, Supreme Commander/Starcraft RTS. It's not complicated at all. Haven't seen any equipment screens or anything like that yet. So far it's easy as hell, but could be a lot of fun once the battles pick up. I don't think it's going to be particularly deep, though all the game mechanics may not have been introduced to me yet.

The fmv's are nicely done and the sound quality is great, the music doesn't sound terribly downsampled. so far it's all tracks from FFXII.

but $40 is still a joke, imo. Even $30 may have been a bit too much, but it's nice to see new Square sprites.

edit: the only bad thing so far is the lack of a "run" button for when your party is far away from the next enemy. that could be super annoying if the stages get any bigger.

edit edit: from reading the IGN review, it seems like my qualms (other than speeding up battle) are just for the beginning of the game.

what is this 10buck off coupon

update: the very next mission after my post was difficult, I died a couple times, and a bunch of new mechanics were introduced, making the game a lot deeper. only problem is that sometimes the characters all get bunched up and it's hard to tap on the right one when you want to assign actions. but your party members have tabs at the top of the screen that you use when things get hectic.

Otherwise, the game is solid.

I don't know what number I'd give it, since I've only played about an hour and the game hasn't kicked into full swing yet. It's looking more like an 8.
hope its nothing like heroes of mana

I heard that Heroes of Mana was basically like Square's prototype for FFXII:RW. And they really screwed up Heroes of Mana. I really wanted to beat Heroes since it's the prequel to Seiken Densetsu 3, but it played so badly I just couldn't beat any more levels.

tempted to run out weds to pick it off best buy for 30.

Mario party DS is starting to suck (no fun in single player--- none of them are )
does your units ever gain exp to get higher HP ? or is it a set amount
I believe their level is based on your characters level (could be wrong), but a few chapters into the game you're given the ability to temporarily level them up during battle.

Figure this thread needs a bump.

Got this for Christmas, and just got into it last week after having to take a break from Phantom Hourglass. I've since put 11 hours into it. It's really good.

The lack of emphasis on unit management really makes it more accessible, making it sort of a light ARPG/RTS hybrid. I'm at 40% right now, and it's one of the few games where I dig into any available side missions when they're available - usually I just cut through the main story.

Since I hate supporting $40 games, I took back the copy I got for Christmas and rebought it when it on sale + coupon for $27.99 (turned my sister into a CAG - she got me a game and $13 in Best Buy credit ;))... at this point I'd say it's near worth $40 if any game was.

I'm wanting to pull the trigger on this game, but am forcing myself to wait for the next BestBuy coupon. (Got $50 in gift cards ready)

Yeah. I missed the deal too. I'm just gonna wait for it to drop to $30 or some store clearing it out.

I debated on this

Or rune factory harvest moon yesterday

Needless to say, rune factory won (Mainly cuz I hadnt seen a copy in forever)

39.99 is way too much for a ds title..Sigh.

Maybe the next FF will have a collectors edition for the ds..

The first :)
If I can find it for ~$20, I'll definitely bite.
That was my price as well. There was actually one that went for $15 recently on eBay so if you're patient I'm sure you'll find it.
