very early impressions (after a half hour of play, which was all tutorials): it's like FFXII with a touch screen and some rudimentary Windows mechanics, which makes it more of an RTS. FFXII already has kind of a RTS/MMO feel to it anyway, but the overhead view, scrolling maps, and complete control over your party makes it more so. But it isn't strict, Supreme Commander/Starcraft RTS. It's not complicated at all. Haven't seen any equipment screens or anything like that yet. So far it's easy as hell, but could be a lot of fun once the battles pick up. I don't think it's going to be particularly deep, though all the game mechanics may not have been introduced to me yet.
The fmv's are nicely done and the sound quality is great, the music doesn't sound terribly downsampled. so far it's all tracks from FFXII.
but $40 is still a joke, imo. Even $30 may have been a bit too much, but it's nice to see new Square sprites.
edit: the only bad thing so far is the lack of a "run" button for when your party is far away from the next enemy. that could be super annoying if the stages get any bigger.
edit edit: from reading the IGN review, it seems like my qualms (other than speeding up battle) are just for the beginning of the game.
