would this work for a US player?  I just might get it to toss on the shelf if all else fails.

You would need a EU account, but since all accounts can play on any server cluster... yes, they'd work for a US player.

Only major downside I can see is that support is based on what key you put in, so you'd have EU support hours if you needed help with anything. Believe EU site takes Visa and such to pay for your sub, and even if it does not, you can get game time cards that would work.
