Game description from Gamespot.com:

You'll take the role of Kyle Travers, renowned pit fighter and the brother of Cody Travers, who was one of the original Final Fight characters. Cody gets kidnapped by an underground gang, while the whole of Metro City is in upheaval thanks to the rapid spread of a new designer drug. Kyle must deal not only with the forces who've kidnapped Cody, but also with the random violence that's erupted throughout the city. As you make your way through the campaign, expect to run into some familiar faces from previous Final Fight games, including original Final Fighter, Mike Haggar.

The overall style of Streetwise is gritty, with the city plunged in a perpetually grimy darkness. This Final Fight game has a very dirty mouth. The character designs seem more conservative than in the original Final Fight, which offered '80s-style punks with colored mohawks, biker chicks in dominatrix-style clothes, and burly wrestlers who bore a suspicious resemblance to Andre the Giant. By contrast, the characters in the first screenshots of Streetwise are clad in typical urban gear, like gold chains, baggy cargo pants, and bucket hats. Parts of Metro City look much like a war zone, with collapsed buildings, fires, and debris to move in and around. Since the game is now fully 3D, you'll be able to explore the city in a somewhat open-ended nature, finding NPCs to interact with who'll give you missions to complete as you inch closer to rescuing Cody.

The new respect system is a method of scoring that dynamically updates based on your actions during the game. Respect is important because it affects the way that you interact with both neutral NPCs and enemies, and it also unlocks new moves and weapons. Beating down bad guys, winning pit fights, finishing side missions, and playing minigames are different ways you can earn respect and improve your character's fighting ability. Respect is split into two components: tension and money. You build tension based on the way you fight. Doing stylish combos in quick succession builds more tension than using weapons or defeating enemies with simpler attacks. The money you earn throughout the game can be used to buy weapons, information, and hire sidekicks to help you.

As mentioned, the fighting system in the game offers combos and supercombo moves when in hand-to-hand mode, but as in the original Final Fight games, Streetwise will also include limited use of weapons. These range from pool cues, lead pipes, and knives, to guns like shotguns and automatic weapons. You'll also be able to activate special modes while fighting, including an "instinct mode" that increases your attack speed and accuracy, and allows you to combine fighting moves with weapon use. The "countertime" mode is a system for defense that lets you slow down time by parrying and countering the attacks enemies use on you.

It's actually a pretty fun game. I enjoyed it a lot. Then again, I don't suffer from ADD like some other reviewers do... nobody appreciates a beat'em up these days.

Absolutely horrible game, and it only gets worse as you play through it. By the end, you're just shaking your head in disbelief as you fight drug zombie dinosaurs with your fists. So actually, it's totally worth seven bucks!

i rented it and got to the end and never beat it. I love beatem up gaildhomes but this not worth 6.99 and that is sad because i will buy almost any game for 6.99. It does not bring back fond memories of my childhood playing final fight at the local skating rink.

IMO this is seriously one of the most underrated games I ever played. I bought the xbox version last year and I had a blast outside of the massive slowdown towards the end of the game (apparently that's only on xbox for some reason) and weak soundtrack (most of the time the music doesn't even fit).

Urban Reign got a terrible review by EGM magazine, but I personally do enjoy the game itself, along with GodHand. Sadly, due to the poor sales of that game Clover Studios closed down, which means no Okami sequel/prequel. :(
god hand got a 3.0 from IGN:

so you may be on to something about the beat'em ups...
True, but God Hand has a GameRankings average of 7.5. FF: Streetwise has a 4.5 rating.

Also, if that YouTube video is indicative of the whole game's quality, then $6.99 is $7 too much.

Thanks, TC, but no thanks.

The story is one big mess, and that final boss... I had my suspicions and they turned out to be true. It was still a fun game, but it needed a lot more work.

I think it's worth seven bucks if you like beat em ups. I'm an old school beat em up and Final Fight fan and I liked it. Granted the plot got really, really stupid, but I'd still say it's worh seven bucks.

Cheesy and rediculous, I enjoyed this game more than I thought I would. I got to a level I couldn't beat, though (the burning building w/ Guy, for those of you who've gone through it). fucking time limit got me every time.

I got it for free to review from the website I used to write for, but I'd say it's probably worth $7 if you A) like beat-em-ups or B) absolutely love Final Fight, since it's cool to see Haggar kicking ass in 3D :)

I'm going to agree with that Statement as well As the one about GODHAND, I love beat em ups. And when one in particular is made by King of the beat em up..CAPCOM..I'm all over it like a rash on a porn star.

Another game worth considering if your a fan of beat-em-ups is "The Warriors". You can find it in clearance bins or cheap used. Also, both Capcom Classic Collections have quality beat-em-ups on them.

I'm currently playing through the Xbox version. It's probably worth $7, as that's about how much fun I'm getting out of it. It has some semi-long load times in some places, so I can only imagine the PS2 versions are worse.

It sucks that you actually have to unlock the 2-Player Mode! You only get one stage of 2P mode to start with and have to play through 1P mode to play the rest.

You can also unlock the original Final Fight Arcade, but the audio sounds horrible on it for some reason.
