President Bush launched a sharp but veiled attack Thursday on Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats, suggesting they favor "appeasement" of terrorists in the same way some Western leaders appeased Hitler in the run-up to World War II. The president did not name Obama or any other Democrat, but White House aides privately acknowledged the remarks were aimed at the presidential candidate and others in his party. Former President Jimmy Carter has called for talks with Hamas.

"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," Bush said at Israel's 60th anniversary celebration in Jerusalem.
"We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said in remarks to Israel's parliament, the Knesset. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

With a very graceful and well thought response, Joe Biden:

“This is bullshit. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset…and make this kind of ridiculous statement,” Biden said angrily in a brief interview just off the Senate floor.

“He’s the guy who’s weakened us. He’s the guy that’s increased the number of terrorists in the world. His policies have produced this vulnerability the United States has. His intelligence community pointed that out not me. The NIE has pointed that out and what are you talking about, is he going to fire Condi Rice? Condi Rice has talked about the need to sit down. So his first two appeasers are Rice and Gates. I hope he comes home and does something.”

at least someone in government says what many people think. I think he would def be on the short list for VP, if only he was from a Southern or Swing State.

Yep. I was very happy to here that backlash. Pelosi made some comments as well, saying Bush's taking politics outside our borders was not befitting of the office of president etc.

It's about time the Dems take the gloves off and say what their constituents have been saying for 7.5 years!

Maybe. But even still, imo one of the main reasons Dems have had such a tough time in elections for so long is that all they are really known for is complaining, Bush bashing, and describing everything they hate and was done wrong.

Republicans may often have terrible plans, but the perception in the trenches is they are the only ones with plans.

When Dems start laying out detailed groundwork that makes sense to people, of how they would do things differently and better - on all topics, they will be back. (they may have learned this lesson finally)

They need to do both. Bash Bush and his policies to rally support, and also outline how they'll improve.

They're doing well on both fronts for me. Not sure what the take of the more conservative parts of the democratic base is though.

ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz.

really.

As for Biden, I'm a little stymied that he follows up the descriptor "bullshit" with "malarkey."

That's flagrant pandering to both the vulgar and the teetotalers within two sentences!

Good for biden. fuck bush. Bush going over there and using his speech to Knesset as a pretext to push political bullshit is even worse than thrust using Sendler as a pretixt to trash gore. They're both painfully transparent but what makes it worse is that some dipshits actually listen to Bush (though thankfully hardly any).

I know, boring isn't it?

Thats great dn all, but "malarkey?" Why do these guys go out their way to seem like 100 year olds? Who even says malarkey anymore, without saying it in jest? Apparently Joe Biden.

Most of the people running this country (into the ground) are 100 years old.

I think the intent of using "mularkey" was to appear old and conservative to counterbalance having said "bullshit" earlier that day. Kind of going polar opposite to be PC in the next interview.

I doubt it's something Biden regularly says, swearing is probably the norm just like for all of us! :D
