Finally got a Wii

meesterjojo

CAGiversary!
I stood in line since a little after 1am in 33 degree weather to get 1 Wii from a Best Buy.

The 11 people in front of me waited in their cars (which caused some people in the back of the line, whom got cut off, to be pissed) but I was #12, and I waited the full time outdoors, never moving.

I will never do that again, Jesus H. Christ.

I'm just happy to have gotten a Wii, but I wasn't as prepared as I could have been for the weather (or having to hold it for so long).

Thanks to all the CAGers who helped me with tips! I also picked up Super Mario Galaxy...Resident Evil 4 wii edition, and the LAN Adapter. Next week I'll go get more :)
I'm glad I'm not lying! It's a very amusing little system...takes forever to get all the settings though...
At first, when I turned it on, I thought it was broken because I couldn't get the hand to come on the screen.

lol, noobs and there Wii .............LOLZ

this needs to go over to bragging rights thread.

When i got my Wii, I played it for about 30 minutes, then went back to my 360 :)

I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand time. I feel so bad for the children you "teach."

OP, did you ask everyone in line if they were buying a system to resell, and tell them they were ruining the economy?

yum a cookie :) (surprisingly that's what I am eating right now)

and I've said it once, and i will say it another thousand times... if you really hate your underpaid job, then fucking quit and stop being a turd because everyone makes more money then you do.

as for your comment to the OP, probably 75% of them were going to sell it on ebay.

Actually I didn't have to- a group of "braski's" aka: The Bro's showed up en masse and bragged about how they were going to re-sell them, dicussed reselling strategy, and generall pissed off a number of the older people in line (like, older than myself- 33) that when we got to the final hour, and vouchers were being handed out, heh, it became a major source of drama. Never mind they brought booze and caused problems with a police officer because of it. It left a good impression in my mind for the "average" reseller.

I had been outside in the cold longer than any one else, so by 8am I didn't give 3-shits if Nintendo was funding Al-Qaeda, as long as I got my Wii and ran.

It doesn't change how I feel about resellers- they are scum, and I had to see roughly 70-100 people get turned down, and the ones nearest the cut-off were the most vocal against the "bro's".

I really enjoy the different sort of experience it offers compared to my 360. It's a cute little system, and offers a lot, especially with the downloadable games (tragic prices though).

Plus one of the biggest issues around here is co-op gaming (not on-line Co-Op which seems to be the only thing 360 dev's know), which the 360 fails on with a complete and total lack of consistancy. At least with the Wii we can be assured that many, many, many games are co-op, and lots of fun to play together.
I like my Wii but there's no chance in hell I'd wait in freezing weather for it. Congrats though :)
Same here.

I think this is a great time to get in on the Wii.

Between:

Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
Super Paper Mario
Zack and Wiki: Quest For Barbosas' Treasure
Resident Evil 4 Wii
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Excite Truck
Rayman Raving Rabbits
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
MLB Power Pros
Fire Emblem Radiance

There is plenty to offer counter-progamming to what the 360 has to offer.

No doubt, I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, so I knew a Wii would be a must, better now than later I reckon. Plus all the dang shooters coming out- I love light gun games, hehe.

This week I'm picking up Metroid Prime 3, a zapper + one of those nyco pistols off amazon, a few shooter games, and zelda.

Wait, you think 33 degrees is cold? Here in North Dakota, I would be wearing a sweatshirt in that kind of weather!

Yep, the Wii60 is a great combo. I wasn't happy with the Wii as my only next gen system, but I like having it around for the different type of gaming it offers when I want a break from whatever I'm playing on 360. The two complement each other very well, and having both gives you a lot of gaming options.

Ya but this is South Texas, and we're used to 90+ degree weather, heh I mean last week we had days in the 80s. hehe So when the temp goes from 82 to 33 in less than a day, ya, we feels it :)

That's pretty much how I feel about it now, plus it's giving me a nice little work out, hehe, it's easy for the g/f to figure out, and my friends now have their own wiimotes.

My only bleh about the Wii is the price for the old console downloads- same prices as XBL, and there are soooo many games I want!

This week I'm expecting a $250 giftcard to BB, trying to figure out how best to blow it all between Wii/360.

Wiis were readily available throughout October and early November, why wait until Christmastime to try and nab one? That seems rather shortsighted...and apparently dangerous.

This is a ymmv deal: If person A lives in an area with a shortage, and person B lives in an area with ready availability, it would skew person B's perspective perhaps?

Trust me, here they were not. Funny enough though not 1 hour ago I got a call from my guy up at EBgames "Hey John...did you get that 'game' you were after?" He was calling the Wii a "game" so as not to tip off his boss he had one for me, hehe.

Now mid-Summer I might have been able to find one, but I didn't bother getting a TV and a 360 till September (WoW got old), so there ya go.

oh that? That's the GodThumb (from the Thumb Movie series)... I picked that because last year I was honored to be my Nephew's GodFather. So instead of the godfather's picture , I put the godthumb snapped from the DVD :)

Nice one and you picked up to awesome games as well Resident Evil 4 is amazing love it on Wii. I am currently playing SMG but getting a little frustrated with it on 89 stars

me neither...if i didn't get lucky a few months ago and land myself a Wii i still might not have had one

anyways...but ya congrats on ur success

Hunh. It reminds me of Rush Limbaugh. And yet I still have mostly respected your opinion all this time. Congrat...ulations??

There! A post in a Wii thread where I didn't make a remark about how outside of a handful of games, its library sucks, or how Nintendo's zealots blindly support a fundamental paradigm shift in gaming that inherently goes against their own...oh, shit. Oops.

Congrats, I too waited out in the freezing cold and was lucky enough to get one. Little did I know if I had showed up when they opened I would have gotten one. I couldnt be happier though.

I got one the week they came out by jsut putting 3 or 4 retailer's phone numbers in my phone and calling around asking "Did you get any wiis yet?"

Did you really buy one, jollydwarf? If so, what do you play on it that you actually like?

Can someone quote me, because I think he still has me on ignore, despite the fact that I'm nowhere near as annoyed or offensive towards him as some of my fellows around there parts... I really do want to know what jollydwarf finds worthwhile in a system that he constantly talks trash about.
