Picked up a PS2 at the sales today for just $15! It didn't come with any hookups - just one off brand wireless controller and it shows some cosmetic damage. All of this made me pretty skeptical that it would work, but since the guy agreed to go for $15 I figured, what the heck? Got it home and it fired up perfectly -- I have hookups and a dual shock controller from a PS1 to use with it.

(Later in the day I picked up 5 PS2 games for $3 each including R+C 2, J+D 2, Mr. Misquito, and a few others so I have some stuff to play on it already.)

Been on the lookout for a PS2 on the cheap for a while, but really didn't expect to find one at $20 or less until the PS3 came out. And really not for a year or two after that.

Now I gotta go update my want lists with about 100 PS2 games :)

He didn't say that he picked up Gamecube.
get devil may cry. now.
yes, get this before Ico....while Ico is good, I'm tired of hearing about it already....it wasn't that good IMHO....devil may cry on the other hand, fucking kicks ass

Aloud? now I have be yelled at by my white friends!! damn this Ps2 business is getting crazy! Kill whitey!

Sorry OP didn't mean to derail your thread. THat was an awesome price for the PS2..............not my favorite console, but for that price I would buy it too.
He didn't say that he picked up Gamecube.
i know he didn't, 'cause why would he pick up a gamecube?

just joking...im not a fanboy by any means...i love every console i have and every one of them has their pros and cons...but i do feel that the ps2 has a lot more to offer, if not only in the size of the libary of games (not to the mention the ps1 games)...that said, the gamecube offers that as well with the gameboy player

Well we'd have to pit them in a fight to the death to find out for sure. Mine looks like it has survived quite a few scraps in the past so I wouldn't bet against him.

Now I have an Xbox and PS2.

Ico, Katamari, and DMC are all on my top wants list. Along with the R+Cs, Jaks, FFs (not XI), Slys, Viewtiful Joes, and most other good non-Xbox PS2 games. I figure I'll still get multi-platform games for the Xbox, but there have been a bunch of PS2 only games I've wanted to check out for a long time.

I'd buy a Gamecube for cheap if I came across one. Although it would have to be pretty cheap after just picking up a PS2.

Unfortunately my PS1 mem card won't work to save R+C 2 (does a PS1 card work to save any PS2 games?) Should I only get an official Sony one or are 3rd party cards okay these days? It cracks me up that I'm going to have to spend just as much or more on a mem card as I did on the whole system.

PS1 cards save only PS1 games, and PS2 cards save only PS2 games. Save that card!

I got bamboozled when I picked up my copy of FF9 and found that I couldn't save it on my PS2 memory card.

Don't trust third-party cards. Though they may be better than they were in the past, my nephew had two third-party cards crap out on him before he got a first-party one.

Since you're in the 2nd hand market, here's a tip: avoid the Mad Cats 12-page PS1 card at ALL costs. I got one for free, and it was a rip-off. It erased a full page of saves, turned my lunar saves into copies of my Wild Arms saves, and completely corrupted my Legend of Dragoon save. I've got it in a box somewhere becuase I couldn't bring myself to put that kind of evil on another person. (I'm just grateful I was using it as a backup and had copies of all my other stuff elsewhere.)

I think I'm going to hit up a Best Buy and probably just get a 1st party Mem card using a $5 GGC coupon. It would suck to lose my saves, last time I've had that happen is with a 3rd party N64 mem card. (Only used 1st party cards with my PS1.)

But I'll probably check out all the ones they have and see what the cost differences are.

2 Different ones, but yep yard sales. I believe this is the first time I've ever seen a PS2 at a sale. (If I've seen one in the past it was priced much higher than I'd consider paying for a system I have no way of testing, so it wasn't very memorable.)

He was asking $20 and as I said the system does show damage. If he had the hookups for it and had it hooked to a TV to show that it worked I might have paid $30 or more and I wouldn't be surprised if someone else wouldn't have paid $50+. Hell he probably could have sold it for $70 on Craig's List in an afternoon, depends on how bad the damage would affect the value.

Getting Ratchet 2 and Jak 2 at a later yard sale for $3 each was great as I had just finished telling my buddy that I couldn't wait to pick up a Ratchet or Jak or FF or Katamari game for the system

Congratulations on the awesome find, PS2 is my personal favorite system and Jak 2 is it's best exclusive IMO.

I suggest all of these great exclusives as well (in this order).

Jak 3
Getaway, The: Black Monday
Getaway, The
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet & Clank
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Final Fantasy X
Killzone
Downhill Domination
Time Crisis 2
Kingdom Hearts
Katamari Damacy

Klonoa 2 is one of the games I got for $3 as well :)

Thanks for the list, I plan to get most of those at some point if the price is right, but I hadn't heard of a few of them.
no ps1 memory cards dont work
if you can find the yellow memory card for ps2 i forget who makes it but it works great. (and its cheaper)
The yellow memory cards are made by nyko. Although some people say never buy any third party memory cards, I have never had a problem using it. They are also offically licensed if that gives you any comfort. The card is like 5 dollars cheaper than an offical one, and sometimes they are on sale.

Also, you should get Zone of the Enders 2 and the first one if you can find it cheap enough. ZoE2 has to be one of the best action games ever.
I don't think he bought the PS2 to bore himself.
k but ico has some of the best graphics on the system for some reason. plus it has yorda.

anyway, op, my advice is to stay the hell away from kindgom hearts. also, buy rygar.

congrats on the deal yo.

Picked up an official Sony card at BB for $20 after coupon. They had the Nyko ones, but they were also $25 there. What the heck? (Both were the same 8 MB.)

Congrats on your find man, also if your looking for games. I'm selling just about everything in my collection, so CML and talk to me if your interested ;) Most are pretty cheap too!

I got a blue madcatz 8mb memory card when I first got my ps2 (like 8 months after the launch). Havent had a problem with it since, well i take that back. The one problem I have is that it is currently full.
