Finding PSone Games

Hey everyone,

Wanted some advice on where to find old PlayStation 1 games. Ive tried a bunch of the local independent game stores here in Vegas and they typically have a very small stack of games that consist of mostly sports titles. Ive even gone as far as to crawl through the swap meet and haven't had a great deal of luck. Ive also searched eBay a bit and find the prices somewhat outragous at times. Anyone have any suggestions or trusted online retailers that i might go through to grab some psone classics?

Never considered Goodwill. Ill have to check out a couple of my local stores. Thanks for the suggestions.

Check on eBay a lot, too...just don't focus on winning every auction you bid on.

For example, the majority of my PS1 RPG collection came this way...I'd decide that I wanted a game (ex. Threads of Fate) and I'd keep bidding over and over and over on the game...but I made a rule...do NOT bid over a certain amount of money ($15 in this case) and eventually, you'll get it.

My best eBay win was a complete, mint bundle of Mega Man 8, X4, X5, X6, X7, Legends, Legends 2, Misadventures of Tron Bonne, and a copy of Rockman Dash for $32 shipped. You've just got to be patient and you'll be fine...and you can check out Amazon/Half, too, but don't budge on your chosen amount. I usually try to go around $10 below it's value on videogamepricecharts.

Try Play N Trade if you have one near you. They normally have a good selection with good prices. It all depends on the one you got to, though.

i third play n trade. although some PnT have higher preowned ps1 prices.

try the goodwill auction site. though alot of people there seems to value things a little higher than ebay. but every now and then you see some good auctions.

People on that site are stupid and most of the auctions close at MUCH higher prices than eBay. I had been watching a poor condition copy of Xenogears but stopped after the price hit more than $40.00 with three days to go. Also, the one time I found an excellent lot of Saturn games it closed for well above the actual value of the included games.

However, there was a 32x lot on there that I missed that went for about half of what it could fetch on eBay. It was a boxed 32x with 13 boxed games (including Kolibri and Blackthorne).

Great suggestions. Tried a couple Goodwill stores here and they were a no go. Will definitely check out some of the other play n trade's in town. The one by my house does have a few but the prices are ridiculous. The guy tried to sell me a used copy of Chrono Cross for 35 bucks. Went on buy.com that same day and got it new for $13.00. Also checked Craigs list as suggested and found an add for a store i have never heard of. Some place called gameworld, gonna check it out on Saturday.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Should have knwon to come to the pros first.

Let me know how Gameworld is. I'm in Vegas too, so I'm curious to what they have.
I really hate how they spam the craiglist here, though.
I see the words PS1, dreamcast, and snes, thinking it's a possible deal, only to find their stupid ad. :bomb:

Check my tradelist as well. I'll give you a big discount since I won't have to ship anything. :)

"PS1 Classics".. smells like he's after rare/harder to find titles for cheap. As has been mentioned numerous times, Craigslist, Pawn Shops, Thrift Stores, and luck. Otherwise, you'll be paying almost-ebay prices.

Thrift stores are a good resource, but you have to visit every week to see if they had any new stuff. Goodwill is a good place to start but check out the smaller thrift stores (usually run by churches) and they will sometimes have games.

Man, fuck Gameworld. $50 for a cart-only copy of Final Fantasy III (SNES)? They constantly spam craigslist with their ads saying "WE WANT TO BUY MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2, ATLUS titles, etc...."

That being said, they do have a decent selection of PS1 titles if you're looking. Be prepared to pay well above ebay prices though. $120 for Valkyrie Profile? fuck you.

Before they stopped taking guides for trade I got something like $80 credit from a ton of penny guides .

Sweat, ill let you know what i find. Actualy stopped by the the PlaynTrade on eastern yesterday and they had more PS1 games then ive seen anywhere else. THe prices on most of them where great, but some of the "display case" titles are a little pricey. Did end up getting a Legend of Dragoon for about 20 bucks, but they also tried to sell me a copy of Xenogears (Greatest hits version) for 50 bucks. Ended up grabbing Xenogears for 30 on ebay.

Ill let you know what I find at Gameworld

:whistle2:$SHHHHHHHH DAMMIT!! There's enough idiots and assholes on Goodwill's auction site as it is now. Between the one douchebag who used to bid on all of the PS2 gen and older stuff on there, then immediately put an auction on Ebay(under the same user name no less) to the general fuckin' idiot population who overinflate the damn prices by continuing to bid on junk lots to the stores on there who overvalue the shit they get for FREE via donations, there's enough competition and WAYYY overpricing on that site for stuff.

Although I will say that I did get a HELL of a deal from them on one auction that I won, where I received 8-10 PS2 titles and easily 15 PC titles(many Windows 95/98 though). I think I paid maybe $28-32 SHIPPED for the whole thing and it included God Of War II when it was still selling for $35 used.

Honestly, the best way I've found to get good deals on older games, is to make sure everyone you know knows you want them. I've had many a game simply given to be by friends and co-workers, just becuase they knew I was a rabid game collector. To be fair, it's mostly been Dreamcast and not PS1, but good stuff (like Lodoss War and PAL Shenmue 2 w/ boot disc.)

Other than that, just what everyone else says- check sellers of used goods, check often, and be paitent. Things turn up eventually.

I got legend of dragoon used for $7 and grandia new, sealed for $8 at a local independent game store (sold for $15 and $80 respectively on ebay). Also nabbed a mint ff vii black label, non-gh for a few bucks at CCA.
